We traveled throughout Austria a couple summers ago with the family of our Austrian exchange student. As we would pass these little tiny and seemingly idyllic Austrian towns with flower boxes under every window, I wondered what life in those towns must be like. Maybe not an easy existence, but certainly a much simpler one.
There are similar small towns in Tuscany that wouldn't be bad at all either. Live in an old medieval town, walk to the market each day for the finest fresh food and wine in the world. A nice slow pace of life and Florence is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

Yup, sounds nice. I'd like to visit Tuscany to experience that. I have enjoyed parts of France and NE Spain, and I've heard great things about the rest of Spain and Portugal. So I'd vote for any of those.
I would go a ton of places assuming I don't need to work. I am in Calgary now and would move here in a second. Cork has been mentioned a couple of times before, I would gladly go the. Sweden and New Zealand have both been great. If I picked one place though it is Scotland.
São Paulo is not charming in any way (Rio is) and traffic is seriously ####ed in São Paulo (it is in Rio too but in Rio there us the option of the metro). While São Paulo probably has better restaurants, Rio is not far behind.
To go to the beach while living in São Paulo is an Odyssey, in Rio it's just blocks away.
The winters in São Paulo can be chilly while the summers in Rio can be sweltering.
Portugal (maybe Porto). Cheap, has a great foreign residence program (i.e. no taxes), cultured, lots of history, and hasn't had a war with it's neighbor in a couple thousand years.
