I'm headed to the draft this evening and here's my check list (1 Viewer)

BigTex

Don't mess with Texas
I'm drafting a the 10th spot in a 10 team, redraft and here's my check list.

#1. The DD

#2. An excel print out of the ADP/Top 200+, I combined it with the Averag Mag Ranking to give me a sort of Power Ranking

#3. The following articles have been etched in my brain:

RB and WR Combos - Drinen

Prime Number Drafting - Pasquino

Draft Slots - Smith

Rearview SOS (RB) - Stuart

Training Camp Reports - Henry

What are/did you take to the draft?

I'll post my results tonight or first thing tomorrow.

I take my cheat sheet that I have had on microsoft word since '98 that I have adjusted every year and transferred onto 4 different computers. That's it.

What are/did you take to the draft?
The DD, with my projections. A list I made of groupings within positions. I tend to not draft strictly based on need, but value, as well as how I think the other owners draft. This helps a bit. I definitely believe in tiering.A complete schedule, team-by-team, and weekly, as I am guilty of playing matchups with my backups. Didn't see an NFL sched. on the dominator, is there one?Actually, that's pretty much it. I have been going by feel more and more on the draft, I used to have hard and fast listings, now I use them for the top players, and go by the DD later in the draft.

I use my own projections as well and someone here had a compressed NFL sched and I printed that off.

I'm old school. I rip it out of the FF Index mag every year. They're kind enough to put the weekly and team sched back-to-back.**Disclaimer** Of course, I buy the FBG mag. But I would never deface it. I buy two copies, read one, and place the other in a safety deposit box. Those babies are gonna be worth money.

What are/did you take to the draft?
Hmm......1. Draft Dominator

2. FBGs Player Search

3. Ourlads.com Depth Charts for every team (more of a casual reference, as I don't buy all of those rankings when comparing them against what I am reading in other sources. A great cheatsheet and quick reference for the later rounds though, especially in IDP leagues.

4. Ump-teen years of FFL experiences and drafting. LOL.

I never thought about the Player search. The restaurant we'll be at has an internet connection, it just may come in handy.

Personally, I was shocked at the way the draft was going. All these guys claimed to be pros, some said they've been playing since the late 80s  Then draft day came and the truth came out. All claim to be commishs of other leagues (this was our first draft as a unit) at least all except one who was a newbie (he had two friends with him and he did very well).

This draft defiled all logic and understanding. These guys paid good money to be in this league.

16.01 A. Brooks

10.01 M. Bulger

1.10 S. Jackson I passed on Caddy (C. Simms scares me)

2.10 L. Jordan (see above) Caddy went 2.11

4.01 W. McGahee I simply couldn't believe he was still there  I passed on Moss

6.01 C. Taylor

3.10 T.E.O You don't know how much it pains me to draft this turd. I passed on Moss :bag:

5.10 D. Jackson

7.10 J. Walker

15.10 L. Coles

8.01 A. Crumpler

9.10 L.J Smith

13.10 J. Brown

14.01 D. Akers

11.10 Tampa

12.01 Washington: I chose them over Jax, Miami, and Carolina. I think the (with Taylor) are going to be one of the best.

The roster LOOKS good, but it's tough to know how well you did without the scoring system and starting roster requirements.

Jeezus man, you got good value on most every pick. Wanna throw a link of your draft? Barring any major injuries, you seem to have the best team.edit to add: You do have the best team, i don't even have to see the rest of the draft. #### sakes your 4 deep at RB, while still having a great WR core.

I honestly don't blame you. These guys have been talking trash for the last two months.

I am guessing this is a 10 team league? And Lamont went 2.01, not 2.10? Even so, you got unreal value with your first 10 picks

If available at #10 would you have taken Ronnie Brown over Jackson & Jordan? That is one hell of a team.

Great draft! I think your biggest problem this year is trying to figure out who to start from week to week given that you are so deep at each of your positions.

I think his biggest prob is he seems to have drafted a large # of players that missed time last year. He's a FBG regular and Wimer(IIRC) injury report will certainly make him comfy but I'd bet in november he's sick of injuries. Big Tex, nice draft. 10 teams do usually have deeper teams so I'm guessing there's one or two you think are real solid too. Care to post their rosters?

Hello Bri,The injury factor did come to my mind. The draft went in such an unpredictable way, I went with total value even at the risk of injury. I had no idea some of the guys would fall the way they did, again these guys claimed to be experienced, so plan A, B, and C all went out the window once the draft started to unfold. I'm still in shock because these guys paid some serious amount of cash, and this is the way they drafted?I will post the others rosters shortly.

I agree, awesome squad. In that system you can start McGahee as your flex, too....nice RB3 there!Do us a favor and bump this at the end of the year. It would be interesting to see how this team does.Good luck!

Hello Jeff the articles were very insightful, being a subscriber pays for itself. Not that I'm claiming the victory in this league, but drafting is a major factor in reaching that goal.

You maybe right, more like guppies pretending to be sharks?

Very solid team without a doubt.

To nitpick, I think I would have saved my 15th and 16th picks for Kickers, and drafted my second Defense later. I would have taken a 4th WR at 11/12, then a QB and second D at 13/14 and finished with your kickers. I am assuming you have waivers and with 10 teams there will always be 12 kickers out there so I just don't see a lot of value in kickers, but that's just me.

I am curious what WRs were available at 11/12. With some questions still there about DJ and Walker's knees and TO being TO (and one stupid comment away from Parcells' doghouse) I would feel better having a more solid option than Coles at WR4.

Again, just nitpicking, you have a really nice team, I wish you luck.

Since you only have 2 starting RBs I would have grabbed Moss or another similar WR at the 4.01 and passed on McGahee. Then you would have a great RB and WR tandem. DJax always seems to be banged up, and Walker, while great value, could be less than 100% to start the season.

Hello Will, any positive criticisim is welcomed, I'm not beyond reproach. The following were available at 11/12 turn: Meshawn, T. Glenn, S. Parker, R. Brown, B. Edwards, L. Coles.

I'd be concerned that you have two WR's with knee issues (Walker and Jackson), but other then that you should an easy ride to the playoffs.

Since you only have 2 starting RBs I would have grabbed Moss or another similar WR at the 4.01 and passed on McGahee. Then you would have a great RB and WR tandem. DJax always seems to be banged up, and Walker, while great value, could be less than 100% to start the season.
It took me the entire two minutes to decide on McGahee. When this began to unfold I was looking at the following: McGahee, T.O, and Moss at the top of my board. I first selected T.O (Man this is painful) then I notice he and Moss had the same bye week, I then took McGahee. The guy who took Moss is loaded with WRs.Don't forget the flex (WR/RB) which could look something like this:S. JacksonL. JordanW. McGahee (flex) T.OD. Jax or J. Walker

I agree, I'll see how things unfold and then try and make some deals.

Actually, half of those teams are not bad, the other half...meh. Your squad is among the best, but it won't be a slam dunk.

Doesn't look like you lost much waiting on WR. I actually like Braylon Edwards but it'd be hard to add another banged up knee to your WR stable. Keyshawn is interesting but Coles could be just as good. I am a little scared of any Jet this year, they look just terrible. That offense could struggle to score 10 TDs this year...

FWIW, I like the McGahee pick. I am higher on him than some and think he'll be a nice flex for you. There was no way to know that Taylor was going to fall. If you knew that it would have been easier to go WR/WR but having 2 minutes to make up your mind I like the decision. I also like TO. I know he's nuts, and there is a very good chance he will cause serious problems at some point, but until then I think he will put up some nice numbers with Bledsoe. (as long as the O line plays decent)

Barring any bad luck I think you are definitely the team to beat. There are a couple other teams I think will be pretty good though too. They just need a little luck, one guy to play better than expected and they'll be good.

One question, can you make trades?

If you can one thing to consider might be to see what your RBs look like after a week or two. If they all 4 look good, see if you can trade Taylor and Coles or maybe Walker for Chad Jackson or Steve Smith or maybe Moss after the bye...

Just a thought, I'd have to be very happy with my other 3 RBs (and get at least something back at RB in the trade) to consider it, but adding a top 10 or top 5 Wr next to TO sounds good doesn't it?

Yes and I was thinking along these same lines. Team D has 3 of his 4 RBs on bye in week 7: Bush/Jones/Benson. This will give me an oppurtunity to push for a trade (considering all things are equal).
