I'm NOT liking that quote from Gibbs (1 Viewer)

:bag: I just can't fathom Portis splitting carries with Betts all year. That is NUTS. Did they not notice the results of last week when they had equal carries?

Believe it. The Redskins are better for it, despite how it affects your fantasy team. Portis isn't built to shoulder the whole load.

Coach Gibbs, when he has had a team built the way that he prefers to build a team, has often had a two- or three- headed monster at the RB position. Go look at these years to see what I mean (from his first tenure in Washington when he won 2/3rds of the games he coached) -

1989 - The Byner/Riggs Combo with Jamie Morris assisting

1985 - The Rogers/Riggins Combo with Keith Griffin in as 3rd down/change of pace back

There are many other years in that first tenure I could highlight to illustrate this point. Look through them and see for yourselves.

Gibbs prefers a RBBC when available, and he has it this year with Portis/Betts.

I posted about this in the game thread.....I swear rbbc was mentioned like 5 times during the pregame, now it's Portis 14 for 60 and Betts 4 for 11. Week 2......hmmm....yep, that's pretty much what I was hoping to see. Pretty positive outcome for all of us who stayed true to CP!

Portis isn't built to shoulder the whole load.
He seems to have shouldered the load since entering the league.
although portis is getting the majority of the carries, i think it's worth noting that betts is not just coming in to give portis a breather... he's coming in at the beginning of series' as well as in passing situations... he may not be getting the carries, but he's still getting significant PT... nothing for portis owners to worry about as long as he runs well and stays healthy

As a Portis owner in 2 leagues, I actually like the skins playing Betts like this. He isn't losing rushes, but he is losing hits he would take when blocking, he stays rested, this lowers risk of injur, and he's producing.

Only thing Portis produces this year is a lot of blisters on his ### from the pine he'll be sitting on.HTH

And you...you will be drinking my koolaid after I score 3 TDs next week...#####!

you betts owners need to wake up and see portis is the #1 RB for Washington and betts is the back up. betts has 5 carries for 10 yards. trade betts to the portis owner while he still has some value.

Too late.......I didn't draft him and I really don't want him now!

i am a portis owner in 2 dynasty leagues. I tried all off-season to get betts but the betts owner would not trade. at this point, I would give up very little for betts. i will wait till he is dropped and pick him up off the WW.

they're 2-0i think gibbs care more about the skins than Portis's stats or your fantasy team
I'm sure you're right as far as not caring about Portis's stats or people's fantasy teams. I believe his point is that Portis is superior to Betts and that's why he shouldn't receive equal carries. Most coaches want their best players in the game and touching the ball as often as possible. I have a hard truth for fantasy guys though. The NFL is a copy cat league. The final 4 teams last year ran RBBC, thus you will see more and more teams turn to this as they think it will help them win games.

Don't forget Sellers getting all important short yardage carries. Could vulture several TD's.
Could Sellers vulture a td or 2 this season in short yardage? Sure. But is he going to be a consistent td vulture? Not a chance as long as Portis is healthy. I've watched Gibbs coach since his first game as WAS HC, and he will ride Portis on the goalline unless he's injured, for the vast majority of goalline carries.

I agree...the main way Sellers will be used during goal line situations is on PA...he had one carry from the one yard line in 2005 and fumbled (still ruled a TD)...I don't think you have to worry from here on out who will get goal line carries.CP = Steal Of The Draft.2-0 BABY, HTTR!

If this holds true, then explain why the Colts would purposely go away from their Super Bowl winning rbbc to a one back attack..... :lmao:

Portis is the man until he goes down with another injury and starts spouting crap like "I don't know what the big deal is about dogfighting"

They did? Hmm, all I've heard is Tony Dungy say repeatedly that he wanted to keep it a RBBC. He just doesn't have the other running back to complement Addai.
