I'm seriously considering tanking this week (1 Viewer)

12 team league; I'm 1-6 sucking hind teat

Of my five WR, one is on a bye and Jones is suspended. Of those available Coles is questionable with a thigh and head (although I think he'll play); Ike Hilliard is questionable with a head; and my other WR is Colston so it's possible that I have one receiver play this weekend.

At TE, Winslow is suspended and my backup's on a bye.

I only have one kicker and he's on a bye.

I have no trade bait and each waiver move costs $5. Weekly winner gets $25. If I had to pick up a kicker or something, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

So...do I spend $15-$20 on available, low-rent WRs, TE and PK with the way outside chance of netting $10?

Sticky wicket.

You have no obligation to spend $5 a pickup to make your team more competitive for one week. You are only obliged to put in the best lineup you can with the players you have.

No you're toast this week. Just save your money and go for it another week.

it's not really tanking if you're still playing your best players who are active for the week.

What happens though when he is not playing players that are active?

And why did the OP mention that he was 1-6? Should it matter? Shouldn't every FF team try to win each week? I have 2 teams in my league that are 1-6 and they are both still playing very hard, even though they are at the bottom of their divisions.

This is why I eliminated transaction fees when I took over as commish in my local league. We raised the entry fee from $100 with transaction fees to $150 without them. I want people in the league to put their best foot forward each week without playing it cheap and potentially compromising the integrity of the league.

It wouldn't factor in if transactions are free, but it is a big factor in $/pickup leagues. If he was 6-1 instead, it would be worth it to throw money away for one week only players to keep a lead. But @ 1-6, he's not winning any prize money to recoup the outlay, so I wouldn't.As a note, I hate $/pickup leagues. When I took over my local league 6 years ago, it was the first thing I killed. Extra prize money is nice, but once teams are out of the running, it kills any attempts to keep fielding a competitive team. The chance at weekly money just isn't enough, as this thread justifies.
