I'm starting Kenbrell Thompkins week one over __________ (1 Viewer)

Waiting on word about Roddy White. Debating about starting him over Roddy if things don't look good. Rolling out Cruz & Colston over him.
What s up with Roddy?
Questionable with an ankle injury.
Damn. Shouldn't we have pinned injury threads for this?
NFLN just said White is expected to play, FWIW
@AdamSchefter: Roddy White is nursing a high ankle sprain that will make it challenging for him to play today.
Just made the switch. Starting Thompkins over Roddy.

My fear is that Roddy is going to start and do everything he can to keep his streak of games alive. But terrified of a minor tweak that sends him to the sidelines. Rather roll with the upside of a healthy Thompkins.

Over White, Givens and Steve Smith.

:wall: Week one and already having starting line up issues is not a good way to start the season.

Thompkins over Ja. Jones, but its a tough call for me. Upside, Dobson sitting and the SF D make the slight difference. I imagine which of these 2 starts will become a lot clearer after a game or two.

I'll be very happy with 5-77 and 1.

7 targets only 2 catches ... bad throws or drops?
20 yard in over the middle that he slipped on, probably would have been completed.

10 yard comeback near the sidelines with a really bad no-call on an obvious PI.

8 yard out where he should have gotten both feet down easily but he stepped out with his second foot.

Those are the ones that stick out in my mind.

Sudfeld also slipped out of a cut and caused an INT on a play that should have been a completion. Ridley also slipped on a cut and fumbled that was returned for a TD. Footing getting the best of the Pats out there.

Should have scored there too. Caught an in on the 2 yard line and slid down to catch it when he didn't need to. Looked like he was scared of the hit. He would have walked in if he'd stayed up.

I'm officially worried about KT avoiding contact, should have had a TD if he keeps his feet instead of going straight down to the turf.

Should have had another TD there. Honestly he's looked very bad today and Brady looks very frustrated with him.

Rookie might have had his last pass thrown his way this game.
What happened?
Brady scrambling right, Thompkins moving right in the back of the endzone with him. Thompkins cuts back and is wide open, but stops. Brady expected him to keep going and threw it out in front of him. Even with them not being on the same page he still got his hands on the ball but couldn't bring it down. Brady looked extremely pissed.

Another target, Brady put it on his back shoulder, he didn't plant to come back for it. Frustrating because he's so close to being right where he should be. Contrast to Amendola and Edelman being right where they need to be and reeling em in.

Next play, runs into Edelman then just stands there and looks around.

Could have been a much better day. Still raw.
Yeah, you can be disappointed if you started him I guess but he got 4 catches for 42 yards and a whopping 14 targets. I'm going to look at the positive of 14 targets and hope he continues to get them, catches more passes and gets better

The downside is that he looked very bad on those 14 targets and appeared to lose a lot of Brady's confidence, at least from Brady's body language.

Hopefully Brady will stick with him.

Yeah- he's a rookie so this shouldnt be surprising. But the problem is there are other rookies looking to take his spot, and he clearly disappointed Brady today. You dont always get a second opportunity like that. KT looked soft and confused, truth be told. That being said he scored me more points than Roddy would have, so can't complain. Still... not feeling as optimistic about his long term value given the demands of this offense.

I disagree. Brady kept going to him. Amendola was the only receiver who looked good - Edelman had a couple hit him in the hands as well. Whole passing game looked out of sync. He will be fine but it's going to take some time.

I have to disagree with this. Edelman made a couple leaping grabs and was the only receiver who was getting open more than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. He will get more playing time.Amendola looked good, and I was happy with his toughness coming back after aggravating the groin injury. He took a few pops later in the game and got right back up again. After doing his best "This is why everyone was afraid of Amendola" impression when he came out with the groin injury in the first half, he did his best Welker impersonation in the second half.

Kenbrell looked like a rookie. A lot of his mistakes were things had to do with body positioning and getting both feet in bounds. That's pretty common for a rookie, and you'll see it more with a rookie who gets targeted 14 times in a single game. He also had a couple plays where he was blatantly interfered with, but didn't get the veteran call. Dierdorf went on a tirade after one of them, but there were a couple.

His game was pretty similar to the early Lloyd games last year - too many drops and lapses of concentration, but some signs of potential, and the Pats clearly tried to force feed him to get him into the flow. I think that bodes well for him long term, but the success of Vereen, Amendola and Edelman may change the receiver rotation a little going forward. The biggest concern for Kenbrell owners is how much time he has left before it becomes Vereen, Gronk, Amendola, Edelman, and that undrafted rookie we liked for a while. As quickly as Ridley got pulled after his second fumble, there's no reason to believe that Kenbrell has an unquestioned lock on a starting wr job if he can't do better than a 28% catch percentage. Next week's game is huge for him if he wants to hang in there.

Brady threw a number of passes behind him.

Brady had a rough day and still threw for nearly 300. He didn't seem comfy for much of today.

In no way was he solely frustrated with KT or any of that. Edelman somehow had two TDs but dropped gimmes. II thought Amendola looked slow, he got hurt, looked very good after that. IIRC Sudfeld didn't get a pass til well into the 2nd quarter. That pass he stumbled but Brady threw it anyway and he did get both hands on it, still I didn't think it should have been thrown.

14 targets is awesome.

I thought the rooks would look more like veterans and they really didn't.

After watching, kinda figure Brady and KT will do sideline drill work this week. He'd probably have 3 or 4 more catches if he got his feet down. It wasn't just him at the sideline but it stood out. Some other plays the WR didn't run his route with enough for a first and there was some non-veteran type mistakes that irked me like that.

It wasn't til into the 3rd that I saw Brady looking off defenders and looking more comfy. He seemed all too predictable before and just not himself.

I'm fine with starting KT next week for FF. If he keeps getting 14 targets I'll start him every week.

When Brady throws a ball that ends up behind a rookie... pretty good likelihood it was intentional and the rookie missed the read or didnt play off his back shoulder.

Outstanding post.

I think we were all crazy to think the Patriots would just pick up where they left off last year. Tough first game for Thompkins. My hope is that he'll take his lumps and come out better next week. There really isn't anyone else.

It didn't really hurt me one way or the other but I am absolutely done paying any attention to these types of threads.

No good has ever come out of them.....

Didn't hurt my team this week. although it may next - I'm going to start him against the Jets as my WR2.

Those 14 targets and the fact that Amendola is out ... gonna roll with him over Tavon and Tate.

Is there a bigger make or break player even though it's only week 2?

I see where you're going with that, but I disagree. KT is a rookie, and while I'm sure a lot of people will bail on him if he stinks again, the fact is that it frequently takes awhile for rookies to put it all together. They're not all going to be AJ Green (especially the undrafted ones).

The fact is, we may spend all season wondering if he's actually good.

It's funny. If Brady knew he was sitting instead of running in the back of the end zone and catches that touchdown pass that went off his extended hands, everyone is loving his 14 targets, 50+ yards, and a touchdown in his NFL debut.
