At one point former Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard was viewed as a potential closer replacement for Jonathan Papelbon. Over a three year stretch with the Bosox, Bard struck out 213 batters in 197 IP. Boston then went in another direction and tried to convert Bard into a starter and he went into a downward spiral.
That spiral appears to have hit rock bottom. Bard tried to mount a comeback again this year with the Class A Hickory Crawdads in the Texas Rangers farm system. Bard was just released after not allowing a hit in his time with the Crawdads. But all was not rosy, as here was his insane stat line.
4 appearances
0.2 innings pitched
9 walks
1 strikeout
7 hit by pitch
16 base runners out of 18 batters faced (.889 OBP)
13 earned runs
175.50 ERA
