In this thread I rank my favorite Beatles songs: 204-1. (2 Viewers)

There is one tomorrow where I predict you will have a total meltdown.   :scared:
Yeah, I don’t think so.  My #10 song was 70something, or 100something without my ranking.  My #12 has already gone.  I’m one of the only people here who understands different tastes, it seems.  There’s nothing I love that I’d be upset if others didn’t.  Thought that had been clear and I was free to shtick it up.

Was Jaws the Revenge the one where the shark jumps out of the sea and snatches a helicopter out the air? Or was that the 3d one with Dennis Quaid? Or was it the one in jamaica with Michael Caine? And how do any of them relate to the cinematic masterpiece Ringo Starr star vehicle Caveman? Which also had Dennis Quaid in it. And Shelly Long. And John Matuszak. And Barbara Bach (Ringo's current wife).

I think everyone understands all the different tastes here except Binky.

I should say, too, that there are some people I know aren’t very familiar with the whole oeuvre (I just like typing that word).  So many “known” songs are automatically going to be higher.  It’s why I like having a thread where we can press a Mother Nature’s Son or I’m Looking Through You to people who haven’t listened before.  And also why I appreciate a ManofSteelhead or rock or others who aren’t going either party- or Krista-line.

Then why would you think I’d care about consensus, let alone “melt down”?  If I did, I’d just have posted what I knew you all liked to begin with.  It’s not hard to figure out.

There were three or four FBG's that added many, many songs to the Composite list and I'm glad they were able to expose them.

It was schtick  :D     playing off early posts saying you had to up your meanness game

I believe the helicopter scene was Jaws 2, but Jaws 3 had Dennis Quaid, while Jaws The Revenge had Michael Caine, but someone should check my math.

In any case, none compares to the cinematic masterpiece that is Caveman, though Avery Schreiber is hurt that you forgot both him and his mustache.

Well spoken. 🤘

Regarding musical tastes, I figure different vibrations (mechanical of the sound itself and lyrical impact, in some cases) can produce varying psychological vibrations (neural/nervous/emotional) in diffrent people.

So, I always like to listen to others music cause I believe it shows me something of them that can't really be explained too easily in other ways.

I had a theory many years ago that every human should have theme music that would play at all times, and that music would tell you all you needed to know about the person.  Would make dating, making friends, electing a President, etc. so much easier, albeit making the world a loud place.

A great musician friend picked up on this and composed what he thought would be my theme music.  It was kind of scary.

Do you think he composed it correctly?   Did you like it?

At this point, I would like to hear everyone just #### and hear only their theme music.

This describes me pretty well.  I had heard all of the songs before but I probably never listened to them the way I did after reading the write ups.  My original top 25 was heavy on songs I was more familiar with, but if I had to make a list now there would be at least 5 changes for songs that I came to appreciate more through this thread..

@Getzlaf15, if you post/PM the composite rankings you've posted so far (so I don't have to go back thru post by post), I can try to replicate the album ranks I did for K4's countdown.  (Not sure how the Abbey Road medley will work out, what with some folks ranking individual bits)

Describes my situation very well too.   I'm a Beatles fan but mostly stay in the middle era.  I would probably really love later Beatles more if I explored and listened to that part of their work.

This is easily my favorite thread of all time at FBG.   And, it has drastically increased my listening of Beatles tunes.  My mornings generally start with:. "Alexa, play the Beatles.".   Unfortunately, these days my instruction to Alexa is now followed by my wife and daughter rolling their eyes and saying "Beatles again, really?!"

HA!

When I was young I used to step off the elevator into the middle of our office whistling the 20th Century Fox theme music with with my hands clasped above my head doing the champ.

All true.

You still pooched the screw on Let it Be.

But it's cool, it's cool....

Yeah, I would get the same thing.  But, it's a proud papa moment when you walk by the bathroom while your kid is showering and you hear the Alexa in the bathroom blasting out "Glass Onion".  This is why I prefer the 35 minute solitary ride to work with The Beatles Channel playing.

He captured me well, which was the problem.  And it was a fantastic piece of music.   :)

By far the "song" I developed a much greater appreciation for is the Abbey Road medley.  Because I don't know much about playing a musical instrument, I typically focus on lyrics and vocals almost exclusively.  Lyrically You Never Give Me Your Money is the only part that ever interested me, but once I started to really listen to the transitions between songs and the solos in The End I began appreciating the whole as more than the sum of its parts. Also, Polythene Pam is pretty catch once you get past the lyrics.

Rain and Hey Bulldog are two more that I enjoy more now that I understand what I am listening to a little better.  Neither song has lyrics that interest me at all, but I find myself listening past the lyrics to what is going on the the "background" and really enjoying both of them.

If I Fell and I've Just A Face  are two that moved up just because I didn't really remember them all that well until I went back and listened again. Both songs just connect with me on how it feels entering a new relationship.

Shaft41's Favorite 13 Things In Beatles Songs As Of This Very Moment Which Could Darn Well Possibly Change Anytime, Really As Soon As Tonight, Listed In No Particular Order Because I'm Not Daft Enough To Try And Rank Things:

1.  The piano solo in "In My Life", particularly the last measure where George Martin gets in 13 more notes than thought humanly possible.  I distinctly remember someone recently saying that that was precisely what they DIDN'T like about the solo, but that person is wrong.

2.  The impossibly fast bass line on what I think might be the second or third verse of "Taxman"

3.  The eight notes on the words "But tomorrow may rain so-o" right before "I'll Follow the Sun."

4.  The harmony on the lines "Someday when I'm dreaming, wishing you weren't so far away" on "Things We Said Today".  The only problem is that these harmonies are so sublime and perfect that I can never decide which part I want to sing along to when I hear it, so I end up skipping back and forth between.

5.  The enunciation on the "d" in the line "That's the end(uh), little girl" on "Run For Your Life."

6.  The triple harmonies in "Because".  I'm a sucker for harmonies.  They make literally any song at minimum 32% better.  These are some of the best, particularly that highest part when they say "rou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound."   And, as Krista told the three of us who read her posts, these were triple-tracked (which is a really fun phrase to say quickly) to make it sound more like 9 voices.  I was dismayed that I was the only one to put this in my top 25.

7.  The only recorded use of the word "bailalaika" in a pop song in "Back in the U.S.S.R."

8.  Opening piano riff of "Hey Bulldog"

9.  The second time the french horn solo comes back in backing Paul's singing in "For No One."  Haunting.

10.  The four descending piano chords after the words "speaking words of wisdom, Let It Be", particularly when played expertly by my progeny.

11.  The discordant piano chords on "I Want To Tell You."

12.  Ringo yelling "I've got blisters on my fingers" at the end of "Helter Skelter."

13.  The very second the ####### flute stops in "Fool on the Hill."
What an excellent list.

I think I'm in a similar boat to Tom here.

I'd list And Your Bird Can SingTomorrow Never KnowsWait, and Hey Bulldog as definite "oh yeah!" moments from this thread.

Disregard.  I was able to extract the rankings so far using (believe it or not) the search function  :jawdrop:

ETA - although if I could get a list of the songs that DID NOT make the composite top-143, I'd appreciate it.  But if that would spoil some of the suspense, don't.

👍

yeah, if only there were a song for Man of Constant Sorrow......
😂 That song is implied always...

Also, Voodoo Child seemed a bit too pretentious for a handle - but - as a background soundtrack... 😎

But seriously, I like the idea of multiple songs on my soundtrack for different moods/occasions/etc.

It would make for a good draft or list.

X# of songs in X rounds or a list of X.

For example, my 2nd selection would be:

Me + feeling a little fearful = Fearless

I think we all broadcast more than just one theme song, it's just a matter of figuring out a reasonable number to have on hand...so to speak. 🤔

Ed Sullivan Twist and Girls Shouting...
Does this mean I’m supposed to recap this with a blistering hot take?

Well duh, Ferris Bueller, for starters., so it’s probably both one of the best covers of all time and probably makes that movie my favorite musical of all time too (suck on that, Hamil-turd)

The vocal is  just awesome . I think it is helped by John’s voice actually begin that f’d up at the time and not faking the rasp/growliness.

That’s about all I got.

You're certainly a lovely audience....
Tangent from the title of this song....

Did the Beatles have any say or creative input into the film that must not be named? I haven't really looked into it, but now I find myself wondering what they thought of that.

As far as the Beatles, I (cut and paste ...this "I" is not me/Binky) could only find 2 quotes. They really don’t say much of anything specifically about the film; they have more to do with the idea of it.

Paul McCartney apparently has never seen the film but said, “I thought that they could never make a film of it. We used to be stoned all the time and talk about things like, ‘Hey, what a great film that would make.’ But we used to say that the trouble is that everyone is freaking out on acid on this album. You’re never going to get those big elephants that are coming through their heads. You can’t capture it: Once it gets to be a film it’s always going to be plodding compared to the album. Those days were a fantasy thing; it all took place in your mind. And from what I’ve heard, the film doesn’t capture it.”

George Harrison once said, “I just feel sorry for Robert Stigwood (the director), the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton for doing it. Because they had established themselves in their own right as decent artists and suddenly…it’s like the classic thing of greed. The more you make the more you want to make. I think it’s damaged their images.”
