Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (12 Viewers)

Was the only way this was gonna end between the Pats and Wilfork this season - and it sucks.

Gotta move forward now, gotta get Mccourty and Revis locked up.

Even PFT thinks there is a chance Vince comes back, so maybe there is hope. Vince has been pretty insistent in the past that he would not play games with his contract and would not take a penny less than what he thought he was worth. We will have to wait and see.

According to Miguel from PatsCap, after Wilfork's release the Pats are now over the cap by $4,443,397 with 4 days to go.

Also, he tweeted that Brady COULD redo his deal again (although I am not so sure Brady is going to keep restructirng). Miguel's Twitter feed is fertile ground for capology nerds. Lots of Master's level capology content.

Hartline says he'd take less money to play with Brady - Where do you guys have him in comparison to Lafell?
with the guys on the market they go after hartline? this is why they continue and always will have issues on the outside. get a real outside wr for once.
I don't disagree, I think taking a traditional WR prospect in the draft should be their top priority. But if they go after some weapons in free agency I think they should look at Rob Housler for sure and maybe another WR.

From what I remember, Hartline is more of an underneath, possession receiver, slot guy and not a red zone target.

I still don't see the Pats taking a WR early in the draft. They don't have a great track record drafting receivers, and I think they still hold out hope that Dobson or Boyce could do something. Draft wise, I see them targeting either line (and if Revis or McCourty don't return then secondary would become a top priority).

I think they won't use their first round pick and instead will trade it to a team that wants to leap frog other teams to get the guy they want. So they will end up with an extra second rounder and another pick this year or another pick next year.

Even if they don't pick till the 64, they will have several opportunities to take a WR.

New England has botched virtually every WR pick since Randy Vataha.

I would like to see them take a run at Brandon Marshall for a 4th round pick.

He's a bit of a whack, but he plays with heart and he move chains.

I would take BMarshall and Julius Thomas for Revis and McCourty... if I had to. Just score 45 a game and see what happens, lol. WITH the Wilfork news the Pats are still 4 mil over? Thant doesn't seem right, must include Revis's 20 mil for next year etc...

all these patscap figs include the revis 20m until they cut or extend him, which needs to happen in a couple days

they aren't carrying a 25m cb

ps I'm withdrawing my sig congrats

where can I order jets gear?

Hartline? On the cheap, let ammondola go if they can, but the game plan is built for Edelman/Amondola so adding Hartline keeps the scrappy slot position stacked. I doubt Marshal's contract is cap friendly enough for them to buy.

Draft another burner with mid-late picks. Sign a much cheaper pass catching back than Vareen.

Gotta lock up McCourty. Try and get a deal done with Revis but if he wants too much, let him go. Sign another CB FA if that happens.

Draft a Nose Tackle or focus on 4-3 D and Draft DT, either early,

OL and LB focus.

PFT reporting Pats and Revis haven't even talked yet. I mean, we are not even close to the last minute yet. Might as well wait.

Second time this has been said in two days.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report says they are for sure declining the option (was never in question,) and then he characterized the Patriots attitude that they want to get a long term deal done.

I find it very hard to believe that Revis and the Pats haven't talked at all.

I heard they will cut him before Tuesday and then hash it out.... front runners are the Jets and Pats. Harvin should be released and makes an intriguing option if Vereen leaves. After last offseason where I was pissed they never filled the 2nd TE position, lacked a decent #1 WR etc etc I am humbled by their greatness and bow to their superior wisdom!!!

harvin is too nutty and he'll want to get paid

I don't see how the pats could top a jets contract offer, considering cap space, but I wonder if they could simply outspend them on cash.

there's nothing better for a player than upfront money, and maybe woody doesn't have kraft's willingness to whip out a roll.

I'm torn between whether I believe Woody wants Revis back or if he wants to bid up his contract. I think Harvin would be a nice fit in NE, he opens a lot of doors for the offense - but he has too many strings imo. Attitude and cost being the biggest.

Read the Pats looked at Spiller as a possibility. To be expected, I think they will probably give Helu a look as well. Really hoping they just get Vereen back.

Does anyone think Ayers will be back? What kind of a deal would he be looking for? The Pats got him for peanuts and he came up big numerous times throughout the year.

I find it hard to believe that it's down to only two teams who will be in the mix for Revis. There are a lot of teams with plenty of money to spend who will definitely have interest. He isn't even able to talk to any teams yet. IMO there are a lot more than two potential suitors.

Sounds like Revis will be released and the Pats will be given a chance to match or make their best offer. Someone will make a crazy offer for him. It will still come down to if he would rather have more money or play for a winner. Not sure he can have both.

All the way back from January, the QB Sneak, the Patriots unstoppable play.

Brady is as unstoppable as a crash of rhinos on third or fourth down and 2 yards or less to go, the rushing equivalent of a back-shoulder throw from Aaron Rodgers. Counting the postseason, Brady has run in those situations 115 times, according to play-by-play data from Pro Football Reference. He has gotten a first down or scored a touchdown on 105 of them, a success rate of 91.3 percent. Over one stretch, spanning more than seven years, he converted 60 of 61, including 37 straight..
A machine

So according to Miguel the Pats are 4.4m over the cap. If they cut revis that becomes 15.6m of space.

Reports are Mccourty is looking for 9m a year. Gonna need to do some serious restructuring to be able to afford Revis and Mccourty but one of them is definitely doable.

Anyone else think the Pats might cut Solder if he doesn't restructure? Hes gonna make ~7.5m this year, two years in a row of regressing.

I would say inconsistent, Solder player well when it counted. I have to think there's ways for the Pats to get things done- it's not a simple deal. They have their accounting magic. We need Vereen too, they have to sign a bunch of rookies, help on the D line, maybe O line etc etc... When all is said and done, Kraft should GIVE Brady a stake in the team.

No, I don't Think They're Cutting Solder, But Wtf Do I Know

They don't Really Have Significant Cap Issues At This point

Part of the issue is his $7.5 million salary becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster at the end of Tuesday. They are really up against it to get that reduced. They could still extend him, but it would not make sense on his side to play this year for less than that once it becomes guaranteed.

Might just be wishful thinking, but per Mike Lyoko:

Heard the other day all Revis wanted was to be paid like the top CB and that as long as #Patriots go $1 more than Sherman deal, they're good
Possible cap scenario. If they can restructure Solder, Mayo and Dola. Cut Dennard (+$1m), possibly cut Hooman(+$1.4m). Could easily fit Revis and Mccourty under the cap with new deals with room to shop.

Looks like the big moves are all in the AFC East, now Suh to the Dolphins. Too bad none of the teams have a FRIGGIN quarterback! lol

But the Pats might want to wake up and get some things done, their "style" is infuriating to some (fans), their results speak for themselves.

#1- LOCK REVIS UP (2-3 years)

The problem with a lot of the potential scenarios is that a lot of dominos have to fall into place at once AND the parties in question are cool with it. If some team wants to pay Revis $19 million a year for 6 years with half guaranteed, the Pats won't match. I also don't think he would go for a 2-3 year discount deal to stay in NE if he can get more years and more money elsewhere (especially from a contender).

We will know a lot more in 72 hours.

McCourty just interviewed on tv. Said he spoke with Revis today but really couldn't say anything about his plans. But he did say the two of them would be working out together in the offseason and he is looking forward to seeing him at camp in July. It sounded to me like he thought Revis was coming back but I suppose it could just be wishful thinking on my part.

Pats laid out more cash than many thought they would for McCourty, lots of reports had them balking at going to 9M a year and they exceeded that. I wonder how much of a factor is the fact that the Pats need to get to the 89% figure by the end of next season and currently are well below when making Revis an offer. Could that lead them to dropping a large amount of guaranteed money on Revis for '15 & '16? Not sure how that all works.

This is the craziest off season that I can remember. Tons of moves in the AFC east and all over, Maclin to the Chiefs, Suh to Dolphins, McCoy to Bills....

Great news on McCourty! He is flat out solid and deserves it- and the Pats are playing some good paper. This should be a big domino that starts the drive for five!
