Indy homers: Addai/Brown-Who gets the goalline carries? (1 Viewer)

Most of what I've read seems to indicate that Addai should see more carries than Brown this season, but Brown will eventually overtake Addai. It probably won't happen this year unless Addai goes down with an injury (which could easily happen considering his history.) The number of carries is a very important factor, but another important thing to consider - especially from a fantasy perspective - is who gets the goalline carries. These two backs seem very similar in terms of build and running style. Is there any reason to think one is better suited than the other for goalline duty?

Seeing that I just made a trade for Addai in one of my dynasty leagues (Moved Fitz for Addai/S. Holmes/1st round pick) I'm suddenly finding myself with a vested interest in this guy. At 1st I just took him as part of the deal with the intention of moving him to another team (likely the Brown owner). The more I think about it though, he could really bolster my roster for the short term and seeing that I did pick up a 1st for next year as part of the deal he may be a hold for me now.

Lots of talk Brown could be the starter and Addai the 3rd down back by midseason

No doubt Addai will not be back with Indy next year, so the value seems to be in brown

I guess if Addai was second in numbers to Rhodes last year, how will he be better then Brown who is a real talent.

Very charitable of you.

Yeah, I've been feeling that Fitz has become over valued all off-season just from the rankings I'm seeing and more importantly the write ups. So, I decided to put him on the trading block a few weeks ago and 3 offers came in that very night. This was the best of the 3. I"m sure most wont do it, but I'd recommend selling high with Fitz.Getting back to Addai/Brown.... I'm not sold that Brown is any more talented than Addai. Actually I'm inclined to say that Addai is the better player. Regardless, Indy won't be resigning him (it would be against their mantra the past few years anyway) so I'm really scratching my head as to how this season will play out.

Being a :homer: I'm not sure where this "talk" is coming from about Brown replacing Addai, etc. etc.

I certainly have an opinion, but that's all anyone has at this point.

IMO, I feel like Addai will get first chance to redeem himself for last year. I believe Brown will get every third series to start and will get his fair share of goalline chances. I've seen video of Brown squatting 585LBS. and I feel that he is the stronger and more decisive runner to and through the hole.

Once Addai pulls up lame, and it will happen, then Brown takes the 2/3ds share and Addai watches from the sideline.

Again, this is all my opinion, which is all anyone has at this point.

So you consider a washed up RB, for most point never was WR and a 1st selling High?

It's worth noting that Addai is signed through 2010 at a reasonable salary. I think the Colts will keep him around after this season, even if he gets injured again.

The Colts haven't typically used a goal line/short yardage specialist. The only time I remember them using a short yardage guy was when Edge was returning from a torn ACL and playing with a high ankle sprain, so they used FB James Mungro. Usually, the RB who is in for a series gets any goal line work for that series, unless he gets removed for some other reason (e.g. after a long gain).

I know Addai dances in the backfield more than most, but he seems to hit the hole pretty authoritatively and run with pretty good power at the goal line. Don't know how he compares to Brown though, as I haven't seen his short yardage work. Since Addai and Brown are about the same size, I don't see any reason to think they'll use a goal line specialist this season.

I would imagine that there's a lot going on at the line with Manning at QB, and being on the same page with the offense, as well as blocking assignment pick ups, would probably be pretty important --- these are areas where I'd think the vet has the upper hand.

It's true that first round Addai got 200+ carries in his first year, but they snapped him up when they lost Edge, and he still only managed a little over 50% of the carries while competing with Rhodes, his second year bumping that up to around 63%.

He had a few injuries last year, and I'm sure they realize they need depth at the position.

He's only signed through one more year(?), and they can probably find a better talent at a much cheaper contract through the draft to sign as his apprentice and insurance, than if they were to go out and compete for a Ward, let's say.

I think it's just as possible this was done with an eye to the future as it is a move to discard Addai immediately.

I've seen TRUE news reports Indy has soured on Addia. I am not so sure how that works in

with the new coaching staff though? But I'd rather own Brown over Addia myself at this point of time.

KCC... I like your guts on Fitz. That spectacular super bowl/playoff run and show he put on is still fresh on peoples mind. Sell them hi while u can. Always been my attitude.

He was only receiver had consistant ppr double digit points every regular season week last year even before his playoff run. He has earned top receiver status but I still would not be afraid to trade him for right price if it made my team better in depth.

I think Addai is wayyyy undervalued. As of now he is the starter for a high octane offense and has shown in the past he can produce. I am looking to pick him up at the end of the 5th round. (I doubt he will be there)
