Injuries killed the season (1 Viewer)

I started off incredible in all of my leagues, between the 3 I was at an overall 18-3 clip, then the injury bug struck my teams repeatedly and fell to now 8-8, 8-5 and missed out on making the championship, and 9-7. Lost all of my quarterbacks and running backs, had to make trades to try to strengthen the teams again and just never was the same. In all 3 lost my 2nd, 3rd and 4th RB's for long stretches in F. Jackson, Forte and Bradshaw, in addition to Starks, Moreno etc. Also lost Schaub, quickly Leinart, C McCoy so on and so forth. It was a terrific season that was just bombarded by injuries after week 8

I lost the following to injuries at some point (I included my backup plan)...

Felix Jones (Demarco Murray replaced him, acquired in a trade where I gave up Jacoby Ford before the Jones injury)

Jahvid Best (ended up trading him post-injury along with Greg Little for Roddy White, who was in a slump at the time)

Fred Jackson (traded him, CJ Spiller, and Daniel Thomas for Marshawn Lynch when his playing status was up the air...Jackson is also 9th round keeper eligible)

Demarco Murray (replaced with Felix Jones, coming back from injury)

Santana Moss (Dropped him and picked up a scrub. I had been benching Percy Harvin all season prior to this injury, so he moved into my starting lineup. This was around the time Harvin went crazy)

Felix Jones Again (Replaced him in the flex for Michael Crabtree, who had been on my bench all season, in the championship game)

Tony Romo (lost him in the final game, costing me a championship)

In all cases except Romo (because it was after the championship game started), I was able to come up with a good backup plan. I also had very good depth in general, which allowed me to absorb the hits a little better than in most years.

In my very first FF season I took Icky Woods in the first round coming off his huge rookie season..second game he blows his knee out.

This year I lost D-Mac, Javid Best, Andre Johnson, picked up F-Jax and lost him. You win some..you lose some. I had one of my best teams ever and TO gets suspended for the season by the Eagles, at the time I think he was the top scoring WR. Chit happens.

It happens every year..sometimes you dodge a bullet other times, you take a cap to the head.

In a RB heavy league, I had DMC and Matt Forte on the bench. Lost Forte the week after I aquired him. To top it off, I lost in large part due to Kalil Bell, as the other owner had a higher waiver priority than I.

LOL at least your team contended before getting wiped out. All my injuries took place early and blew my whole year up right away :ptts:

You mean to tell me football players got injured this season?! Nobody could plan for such a tragedy.
If the injuries this year seemed like every other year - consider yourself lucky.I've been doing this for 21 years and have never seen this many players get hurt.

I thought last year was worse cuz I didn't get into the playoffs in any of my 3 leagues.

I think this year wasn't so bad since I made the playoffs in 2 of my 3 leagues.

Injuries are only as bad as the number that effect your team(s).

I don't know if the stats bear this out, but I blame the lockout.
 Some of us in my league came to the same conclusion.

With grad school, decided there wasn't really the time to play, then last minute got talked into a 20 teamer--I hadn't kept up with things b/c I wasn't planning on playing, but apparently Phillip Rivers drank a big cup of suck during the lockout. Who needs injuries with 5 points per INT and Phillip "gonna catch Favre" Rivers.

i've never quite had injuries hit so hard at one position which was my strongest and deepest position like that. I also had T.O along with McNabb and Westbrook the year they were going nuts before McNabb and Westy were both hurt and T.O was suspended. I was undefeated at the time, still held on to go 14-3 and win the title that year though, had enough depth once I passed the bye weeks. Just hard to get by with depth when the depth gets hurt on top of the starters getting hurt, wound up starting a total of 9 or 10 different running backs in 1 of the leagues this year because I lost so many of them at once.

injuries both killed and helped me. i lost a player in game almost every week this season, leaving me often to play 8 or 9 vs 10 players. lost moeaki, moreno (remember, he started the season as #1 rb in den), britt, aj, dmc, murray,, and lance moore, nicks for a few games. but injuries helped me use tate at times this season, vincent brown while floyd was out, murray stepped in for dmc for a few weeks, freddie jackson let spiller get on the field just when it looked like i was outta players. but the biggest injury of all was big ben, which cause PIT to actually involve mendenhall in the passing game and to run the ball. i started 16 different lineups this season culminating in another championship. if you had told me the lineup below would dominate the playoffs, i'd have laughed myself silly:

brees, mendenhall, spiler, tate, crabtree, nicks, LMoore, akers, cincy.

Exactly. You probably just had more players on your particular team get injured.I don't know how to find the stats, but I doubt this season is any different than other seasons in regards to games missed due to injury.

I had players injured in 15 out of 16 weeks! If it was just me, I would figure it was just my own bad luck.

But I saw almost every team in my league dealing with injuries this season. We start more players each week than most leagues (2 QBs, 3 RB, 3 WRs) so it was even more obvious.

This doesn't happen every year?

Lost J.Charles early, then ADP goes out for a couple weeks with the HAS, then Jennings goes out with a knee sprain, but still wound up with the highest scoring team during the regular season. Still had every opportunity to win the league. Posted the 2nd highest score in the semis, but ran up against Brees and Bush with those two putting up over 70 points between them. Lost the semis by 8 points. Ran my lineup again the week of the finals and would have won the superbowl by 7 points had I been playing. Sucks but it happens.

AJ injury hurt me bad but then Bradshaw injury really took me down. Still missed playoffs by a bad start/sit of Bradshaw over Greene when Greene exploded w/ 3 TDs. Should have known not to start Bradshaw in his first game back. Kevin Smith almost saved my season but then he got hurt early in the same game.

Just to emphasize the point, Mendenhall going out with ACL tear this week was the 16th week of injuries out of 17 weeks for my team! :jawdrop:
