Insurance Guys - Need Advice (1 Viewer)

If you call in a claim on your personal auto policy, regardless of fault, it get logged in and typically has a negative effect on your rates.

If the 10 year old mini van still runs and the at fault party wants to pay you for the damage why in hell would you want to tell your insurance?

How is this thread 2 pages???

No? Yes? Yes? Good. Here's my scenario:

Went out to my car on Saturday morning to discover that something had bashed in the front passenger wheel well. The entire quarter panel is crimped, the hood is dented and scratched, and the passenger door is dented (and the door won't open).

I don't know what caused it. My prime suspect is a neighborhood kid who likes to (illegally) ride his dirt bike all over the place. But another possibility is my neighbor's landscaper -- maybe he hit my car with one of his machines, or with a projectile launched from a lawnmower or something.

Anyway, my car insurance includes comprehensive (with a $250 deductible) and collision (with a $500 deductible). Is there a way I should describe the damage so as not to trigger my insurance company to label it as a "collision"?

"My car was parked (location), and I don't know what happened."  Something like this.  The body shop may be able to tell by the damage if it was hit by a vehicle or a flying object.  Most likely it is going to be a collision claim.  Don't get busted for insurance fraud to save $250.
