Intentional Grounding vs Stopping the Clock (1 Viewer)

Semi-hijack...

Anyone else ever wonder why they put so many rules in to protect QBs, while having a rule like intentional grounding, which puts them in more danger? Why not scrap the intentional grounding, and lighten up on the other stuff? Isn't an incomplete pass good enough for the defense?

If they outlawed the forward pass, they'd be even safer.

No.
So, you're a fan of QBs in skirts?

I don't get your point... I'm saying there are rules that protect them, and rules that put them in more harm... Doesn't seem to make sense to me to have both.

They are the most prone player in the sport. They get drilled by guys going full speed while they are standing upright. Go ahead and hammer them but don't hit them late and don't head hunt. And late or not, any man that goes below the knees on a QB is a #####. Man up.

:hey: How does intentional grounding put QBs in more danger? Because they have to run to get out of the pocket to throw it away? I haven't seen any injuries from a QB throwing it away (that I recall)... taking a sack however... yea.

A penalty for intentional grounding to avoid a sack is part of the game. If you didn't have it, they would throw the ball on the ground every time they were tackled for a loss. Just like a forward pass is part of the game.

When the QB chucks the ball into the turf to stop the clock, it's just a loss of downs. Why isn't it Intentional Grounding?
intentional grounding is throwing the ball away "to avoid a sack"
Very nice, thanks.
no probi think they wrote it that way intentionally to allow the time stopping spikes
It's kind of a newer rule. Not sure when it came about, but I remember this not existing and it was grounding. Terrible rule. You allow teams to trade downs for a stoppage of time. Teams should run a play to completion.

Generally a play ends when the forward pass hits the turf.
