Interesting draft strategy (1 Viewer)

We just had our 10-team redraft league draft this past Saturday and had a very interesting trade take place on draft day. Our league starting lineups are QB, RB, WR, 3 off. flex (max. of 2RB), TE, K, DL, DB, LB, 1 def. flex. Scoring is 6pts. for all TDs, no PPR for RB, 0.5 PPR for WR, 1.0 PPR for TE. We also have a max, of 5 RB on each roster.

Typically teams will go 3RB / 2WR in their starting lineup each week - which typically makes RB pretty valuable each week.

On draft day, Team 1 gave up 2.07 and 4.07 to Team 2 for 1.06 and 6.05. I am neither of these teams (thank goodness).

Team 2 then drafts the following:

2.05 - Chad Johnson

2.07 - Steve Smith

3.04 - Torry Holt

4.05 - Thomas Jones

4.07 - Marc Bulger

5.06 - Marshawn Lynch

7.06 - Vernon Davis

8.05 - Kellen Winslow

Rounding out his RB corp is Tatum Bell, Mike Bell, & Vernand Morency.

I just thought this was interesting that Team 2 wound up going 3WR in his first three picks and bucking the trend of typical draft strategies. He also did not pick up any additional WR's other than the top 3.

Does anyone think that his RB corp is extremely weak and even though he potentially has the top 3WRs he seems to have absolutely no depth in case of injuries?

He also has his QB corp as Bulger, Eli, Delhomme and Culpepper (even though we only start 1?)

Just thought I'd drop this out there as an interesting draft strategy and see what people thought...

not bad in a 10 team league because he ended up with 2 #1 RBs.

Can't really pull anything like that off in a 12+ team league

I see no problem with this. He can just drop one or two of his QBs if he needs to pick up a WR. His RBs aren't that weak. He'll probably end up trading T Bell after 2-3 weeks and getting good value in return. Well done Team 2.

I did this strategy 3 years ago drafting the end of the first round in a 12 team draft. 1.12 and ended up winning the league championship.

2004 draft

Rd 1 Ocho Cinco

Rd 2 Tory Holt

Rd 3 Marvin Harrison

Granted Harrison slipped to me but I was stacked at WR and had 3 of the top 5 WRs that year. That year I had a servicable QB and Tatum Bell and Chris Perry as my RBs for the early part of the season. I picked up Julius Jones off the waiver wire and rode his ### to the championship!
