Interesting Nuggett For Jones-Drew/Taylor Owners This Week (1 Viewer)

Pro Football Talk.com has former Denver GM Ted Sundquist analyzing three games each week and the first one he analyzed this week is the Buffalo-Jacksonville game. On the surface, this looks like a game where Jones-Drew and Taylor will have no success. Their O Line is in trouble and the Bills' defense looks real good this season. But this point from Sundquist caught my eye:

"Also, look for the (Jacksonville) running game to attack the perimeter more. Buffalo has struggled a bit in stopping the outside run, especially to their right side. Both backs have big-play speed and can hit the home run once in the secondary, another category that has plagued the Bills defense (26th in ’07 giving up runs of 10+ yards). Seattle had 4 runs of 10+ yards this past Sunday."

Again, the issues up front are a major source of concern for the Jaguars and for owners looking to start Jones-Drew or Taylor. But I did find this point interesting. If the game is close - and given the strength of both defenses and the fact neither offense is dynamic by any means I think it will be - the Jags will likely run it as much as possible since Garrard isn't the type of QB who can beat you throwing the ball. If Mo Morris and Julius Jones can have some success on outside runs, it stands to reason that Jones-Drew and Taylor (who are significantly more talented) have a chance to do well.

I don't think either Jacksonville RB is looking good this week due to the offensive line concerns and the overall strength of the Buffalo defense. But if you're a Jones-Drew or Taylor owner who needs to start them this week and you're looking for something positive to hang your hat on, perhaps this is it.

Interesting.

However, I expect to see alot of penetration by the Bills d-line which should create problems with integrity of the pocket. They may even be in the backfield so fast that they hit MJD or Taylor as they are taking the handoff.

Generally agree, but disagree with the highlighted comment. Jax passing game is limited by wide receivers, not the quarterback.

I agree their WRs aren't very good but the elite QBs make their WRs (even average ones) better than they are. I don't think Garrard possesses that attribute. I think he's a good QB, but I don't think he's a great one.

The Bills also didn't have stroud or mitchell last year...
That's true, but Sundquist's point was supported by last week's game as well. Morris and Jones did have some success with some longer runs. Morris, in particular, had a couple of long runs before he got hurt. Jones also had a 24-yard run. The problem for the Seahawks in that game was they were so far behind they couldn't sustain any type of a running game. I think this game will be closer so I would anticipate Jacksonville at least attempting more running plays than Seattle did. Again, I'm not saying Jones-Drew or Taylor are looking good this week. I don't think they are. But if Morris and Jones can have success on the outside runs Sundquist is talking about, I think that bodes well for Jones-Drew and Taylor having some success as well. And if the game is close and they're able to run the ball more than Seattle did perhaps that means more successful outside runs than the Seahawks were able to muster.

Thanks for the info OP

Regarding MJD this week - he looks like PPR $ w/ swings, screens, and dumpoffs since there won't be enough time to let downfield routes develop.

Maybe 6-8 catches, since I doubt they'll be running up the middle much.
