Interesting things I have observed! (1 Viewer)

I was just at work bored and thinking of random thoughts. So I thought I would share some of the things going through my head. Many of these things are known by many of you here, but feel free to add any if you you like.

-Chris Chambers has caught a grand total of 11 receptions this season yet 5 of them have went for TD's. Can you say making the most of your receptions

-Anyone who thought R. Williams was going to be a bigger factor than R. Brown this season were very wrong!

-Anyone who thought E. Manning's playoff run was not going to help him going foward were missing the boat.

-A hurt offensive line can change a teams identity: see the Jags.

-R. Grant is what he is. An average NFL rb.

-There are 6 rookie RB's in the top 26 RB's in my league.

-M. Ryan is having way more success then anyone ever could have imagined.

-Atl is not getting enough credit for what they are doing. Mike Smith so far in the young season should be considered the coach of the year! No offense to Jauron and company.

-Rivers is a good QB, but Brees is an elite QB that SD would be better withW.

-Anyone who says one player can't lose you a football game should watch the whole game of Indy vs Houston and see Sage's performance.

-M. Turner has always been the real deal and is finally proving what many had thought for sometime.

-Flacco is going to be good, but anyone who thinks he is going to lead this team to a deep playoff run are fooling themselves.

-N. Barnett is in a huge defensive slump. In his first 5 seasons in the league he has never had less then 100 tackles averaging 124 tackles a season. This season he is on pace for 84 tackles!

-C. Finnegan is a pro bowl corner

-Portis plays as hard as anyone in the league

-P. Willis is arguably the best athete in the game today

-Don't look now, but it appears the Bears have found their QB of the future (Appears). I think they have obviously made the right choice of Orton over Grossman though.

-Greg Jennings is the real deal. I missed the bus on this guy.

-I don't think the Bills are a top 10 team this season. I think they have the players in place to be a top 10 team in the future but I would not annoint them top 10 just yet.

-NYG don't get enough respect for being the best all around team in the NFL. Coughlin is a really good coach.

-I had written off Matt Jones, and although he will never be a super star WR. He has having a much better season then I would have ever imagined.

-Journeymen QB's are useful in the NFL. Ask Arizona, Tenn, TB, Mia how well they would be doing without there seasoned QB's.

Anyone come across anything they would like to share?

-Atl is not getting enough credit for what they are doing. Mike Smith so far in the young season should be considered the coach of the year! No offense to Jauron and company.
For 5 weeks, I think you would have to seriously consider Jim Zorn for coach of the year.

:goodposting: After week 1 I thought he was going to have to call up Largent and come out of retirement, if they were going to win a game. That's how bad they looked.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. It will be interesting to see how they fare against the Chargers and the Pats. With that being said, the AFC is wide open, and if they can win 10-11 games and get one, possibly 2 home games in the playoffs, they would be hard to beat.

With all due respect to Zorn who is doing an amazing job. He took over a talented team who is coming off a playoff appearance last season.Mike Smith inherited a 4-12 team and is working with a rookie QB at the helm. After 5 weeks I would have to give it to Smith although I would understand the votes for Zorn if that makes sense.

-Flacco is going to be good, but anyone who thinks he is going to lead this team to a deep playoff run are fooling themselves.

Baltimore won a Superbowl with a great defense and a game management QB a few years ago, it's possible.

That was 8 years ago and Dilfer had started 74 games before that SB season, he had also thrown for 70 TD's and 11, 385 yards. Now, there is Big Ben who has done it recently, but odds are not good in Flacco's favor.

No argument that the odds aren't high... but 5 games into the season I wouldn't say the odds are zero either.

So of the 700 views the worst thing out of the replies is Zorn should be in the running for Coach of the year which I agree with.

And no one else has some random semi well thought out additions? Come on boys.

I have an addition.... I don't know who has made more suspect decisions over the last year... The Bengals or the Raiders. Two very sad franchises right now.

-Rivers is a good QB, but Brees is an elite QB that SD would be better withW.

This is debatable

Brees: 133/194, 68.5%, 1673 yds, 9 tds, 6 ints, 97.7 rating

Rivers: 84/138, 60.8%, 1183 yards, 11 tds, 4 ints, 103 rating

#s are comparable, NO throws more. Brees may complete more and is excellent on the deep ball, but Rivers is showing he can play at this level no doubt.

I dont think SD would be better with Brees. Or at least better enough that there is a debate.

Here are some Pats-related observations:

- Logan Mankins won't be on Dr. Z's list of best guards to say the least. I thought his horrendous performance in SB42 was an abberation (at the worst moment), not a sign of things to come.

- If Cassel can play the way he did vs. SF the rest of the way, the Pats will be in every game they play even if the D has an off day. His throwing outs with authority and finding receivers over the middle this past Sunday was light years beyond him afraid of throwing more than 5yds downfield vs. Miami. The bye week did him some good.

- Of all the RBs the Pats use, fans feel the most confident when they see #33 out there. Kevin Faulk is a gamer, which is funny because the guy was a fumble machine early in his career.

-Flacco is going to be good, but anyone who thinks he is going to lead this team to a deep playoff run are fooling themselves.

Baltimore won a Superbowl with a great defense and a game management QB a few years ago, it's possible.
Baltimore's defense has been good this season but is nowhere near great.

So did the bye week. It taught him that throwing the ball vertically when you have Moss gives you a strong probability of success.

Interesting one. What is the worst decision of the two?1) Fire Kiffin2) Keep Marvin LewisI think firing Kiffin was a better decision....and everyone thinks Al D is crazy.

Kiffin made some very strange decisions in the last 2 games he coached. Like the 76 yard FG. M. Lewis just stinks, I don't think he's really any different from other years.

He was under seige by their pass rush all day (at least 5 sacks), yet was still able to make some great throws over the middle to Welker and Gaffney for 1st downs, many of them in tight coverage. He also threw a handful of nice outs to Moss for 1st downs. He was petrified of making such reads and throws against Miami, instead settling for 3yd dumpoffs and the overused screen to Welker. He had the one bomb to Moss and another that was picked off, but the rest of the time he was converting some big third downs on some really sharp throws that took a confident QB to pull off. It was a pleasant improvement over the Miami debacle and even the Jets game where he relied on the short stuff and Welker screens that for some reason the Jets continued to let him have.

I don't think it's that simple...I think both have surprised and the coaches and players should get a great deal of credit. I'd point out that one should look at who each team has played to get their wins. An impressive factor is that the Redskins worst ranked offense they have faced was #6 overall. That means they have faced 5 of the top offensive teams so far...and won 4 of them. So, yes...they have talent, but they also have faced a greater competition. Add that they have played without many of their starters in each game and it becomes even more impressive IMO.

Not NFL related but FFL related...

- It's much more difficult than I thought to commish a fantasy league especially when you have one owner who constantly *******

-Flacco is going to be good, but anyone who thinks he is going to lead this team to a deep playoff run are fooling themselves.

Baltimore's defense has been good this season but is nowhere near great.
Agreed they're certainly not a top ten all time kind of defenseBut through week 5:

#1 Passing Def

#1 Running Def

#1 Total Def

They're not bad.

Of all the busted picks this year, those who reached for Randy Moss were punished most.

Every year you can count on a few tight ends poping out of the woodwork to be viable options...well...normally every year... This year is not friendly if this is your MO.

Al Davis proved he was crazy over a decade ago. Kiffin proved he was crazy when he accepted a coaching job with the Raiders. I'd call it a tie, with the tiebreaker being who's nuts longer. Kiffin should be paid out his contract by Davis giving him the franchise rights to Los Angeles.

Really to the bolded part?Moss did have a couple of down weeks but he is still WR 21 and has had 2 good/great weeks and 2 down weeks. He is not going to break any records this year, but I think he is going to be ok. Not WR 1 worthy, but not terrible either.

Haha maybe.However....

Not that I need to defend myself but I make 50, 000 dollars a year and in comparison to an NFL salary I would hope they work harder than me. I think I put in way more extr curr hours and work way harder than I should as is.

WR21 is typically a late fourth or fifth round pick. Moss went in the first in most drafts. Not sure what to call that except BUST.

:hifive: Let's not forget that Brees was coming off a bad injury when SD traded him. With the huge disparity in offensive system/philosophy, Brees would have to be light years better then Rivers to justify the OP's comment, and I just can't see it.

Julius Jones has 373 rushing yards over 4 games, for a total of 93.25 per game. extrapolate that over the course of of a 16-game schedule, and he's going to rush for 1492 yards...

its obvious that the pass-happy Seahawks are going to have to switch to a run-first-run-often type of offense.. JJ might be one of the best RB's the remainder of the season.despite losing (badly) to NYG, while watching that game I saw a lot of burst and speed from JJ..who knows what he would have finished with had they given him the ball 25-30 times during the game..

Larry Johnson is officially a spot-duty fantasy player, i.e., when the Chiefs play soft rush defenses, start him..

Earnest Graham might be the best RB in the league that no one knows about..he's averaging 5.9 yards per carry...if the Bucs would just let him run free by force-feeding him the ball 25 times per game, we'd see a STUD in the making, he's the real deal....with the upcoming schedule for TB, EG should easily put up some of the best numbers among NFL RBs over the next 5-6 weeks..that is, if Chucky actually gives him the ball.. ..

Reggie Bush has finally proven that he is Eric Metcalf v2.0 or David Meggett v2.0..great kick returner, great receiver out of the backfield, but has problems rushing the ball..he's averaging just 3.3 per carry..

Dwayne Bowe is the next Superstar WR..KC is woefully bad this season, but in a year or two ( presumably with a new coaching staff), the Chiefs will be a good team..Bowe is playing like an all-pro in just his second season. grab him while you can in dynasty leagues, trade for him, do what you have to do to get him!

Detroit might be worse than the 2007 Dolphins.if thats possible.

Steve Slaton is the real deal..

Owen Daniels is on pace for 76 receptions and 952 yards..he might not score a single TD all year long, but will post WR-like numbers the rest of the way..like Slaton, he's here to stay..

Well thought out post. I can't believe how bad Detroit actually is this year. Did losing Martz hurt that much? I mean not that they were amazing with him, but they look really bad this year.

Truly Random stuff....

- Tired of the "Brees woulda/coulda/shoulda if SD had kept him." Whatever. Neither team is going to the SB with those defenses anyway.

- Cedric Benson to start before week eight in Cincy? You can't write comedy like that. Who's next? Charles Rogers?

- Isnt there a team every year that starts as a darkhorse fave to win it all, and then fails to make the playoffs? Hello and good night, Cleveland.

- Even if the "wildcat" formation gets figured out by opposing defenses, doesn't that only downgrade Ronnie to Pretty Good RB status? Not bad at all...

- What's the NFL record for most tight end targets/yards in a season with no TD's? I think I'm on that train with Owen Daniels

- Does the Titans situation remind anyone else of the Ravens with Dilfer? Just game manage, dont lose it and let the defense roll.

- In a first round now proven more volitile than the Dow, does Clinton Portis look like the most rock-solid investment?

- I wanted to see Mike Holmgren go out on a winning note. That's looking less likely by the day.

Meh. just stuff kicking around in whats left of the noggin.

Haha I like the C. Benson one. That is gold.Few more....-M.Prater has connected on 12 of 13 field goals and has made all four over 50 yards (impressive).-Branch is the most fragile player in the NFL-J. Porter is worthless as an NFL WR-The rookie of the year race is as wide open as it maybe has ever been... Slaton, Forte, M.Ryan, F. Jones, E. Royal (injured though), McFadden, Flacco, C. Johnson, D. Jackson

-Chris Chambers has caught a grand total of 11 receptions this season yet 5 of them have went for TD's. Can you say making the most of your receptions
-Chris Chambers has been targeted a grand total of 24 times this season yet 11 of them were receptions. Can you say making the least of your targets? :blackdot:
Clearly Chris Chambers' poor catch rate is entirely a product of the fact that he was forced to play with Jay Fiedler a half dozen years ago.

-Jason Elam ranks second in NFL history with 38 kicks of 50+ yards in his 16-year career. At Matt Prater's current pace, he'll match that mark... by the end of his third season in Denver. :blackdot:

-Anyone who says one player can't lose you a football game should watch the whole game of Indy vs Houston and see Sage's performance.
This is really unfair. Sage actually played an excellent game with the exception of those 2 fumbles late. Of the 2, only the first was wholly his fault. The second was a normal QB fumble as they try to throw the ball. Another few inches and he would have gotten the throw away.Let's not crucify Sage. Other than 1 gross error in judgement he played a really good game.
