Daughter is in Spain for 10 days. We paid the AT&T International Day Pass for $12/day. The guy at the store when we went in said to make sure she keeps data roaming off. So, she gets there this morning and of course nothing works unless data roaming is on. Looking into it, AT&T does not have a network there, so roaming would be required. I'm pretty sure she should be ok leaving roaming on. I assume that's what the day pass is for. But, I figured someone here will know for sure.

Roaming must be ON. Guy at the store was wrong.

Sometimes the roaming can be a bit dodgy, I would recommend both of you using Whatsapp, and ideally when she is on WiFi.

Airalo

End of thread
Just curious, how long have you worked for Google? ;)

Anyway, I looked into this Airalo and am replying as a way of black dotting this thread. For those of you without access to an internet search capability:

Looking for a firsthand Airalo review?

I’ve got you covered. I’ve used Airalo since early 2023 on multiple trips abroad to Asia, Europe and South America. As someone who used to rely on physical SIM cards when traveling, switching to an eSIM has been a game-changer in terms of convenience and practicality.

Airalo seems to be relatively inexpensive (certainly cheaper than $12/day) and effective (you don't need to spend time finding somewhere to buy the physical SIM card).
France: 18 days/10 GB = $23
Japan: 30 days/20 GB = $36
Colombia: 10 days/3 GB = $23 (but he bought 2 smaller increments so cost was disproportionate)

I have used Airalo twice. Once when we were in Europe for three weeks last year and two weeks ago in Dubai. Both times, it worked fine. It took a little finagling to get it set up, but once I was able to figure it out, it worked great.

my kid just spent a few months over in spain/euro and we have AT&T, leave roaming on and you are good to go. No extra fee's beyond the 12 a day, not a like a cruise where they nail you if you don't set it up before hand

Yes, just use WhatsApp.

My son was there for almost a year. Used Maya.

Pretty inexpensive overall, works well, it's an e-sim that's easy to set up and turn on.

The only thing is you can't use your primary number for calls or SMS, but you can easily call with WhatsApp as well as text/share/etc.

Can get 10GB for 10 days for $14

Airalo and WhatsApp ftw. I liked having the data plan way up in the eastern Maritime provinces of Canada. Planning to do the same thing when I go on a Spanish Med cruise.
