Or sell off the toll roads to a private agency for a big up front profit to the government while the actual users end up paying for through time, as Sand said.
There are 2 freeway options near me, one of which is the Florida Turnpike, a toll road. Turning I-95 into a toll road would make traffic that much worse, and would simply make more people use the side roads, snarling traffic there as well. Just sounds like a bad idea all around.

I really don't get why anyone of any political affiliation actually supports moves like this or the gas tax. Conservatives are historically against new taxes, that's simple enough. But I really find the liberal fascination with these sorts of taxes kind of bizarre. It's clearly a regressive tax that impacts you more the lower your income is. You'd think they'd want the rich guy to pay for these roads. Of course, I guess they're a bunch of rich guys, and why would they want anything like that?
