Last night, Sig and I interviewed Chris Hoeltge, the head programmer and administrator of the statistics databases for the NFL. We asked him how the stat crews were put together, how the stats are generated and reviewed and had a long discussion about how unofficial defensive statistics are recorded and how things have changed in recent seasons. Chris also discussed what the criteria are for the quarterback hit stat and the new tackle for loss stat.
