Have to say, this thing is really starting to grow on me. Haven't bothered to turn on my laptop at home in about a week now. I even forgot it at work one day last week, and had a restore running. Got into corporate network via VPN, logged into backup server via rdp with wyse pocket cloud to check restore. Moved volumes from media server back to original host with issh and command view via safari. Then used the email client to send mail via our notes server. I couldn't do an entire workday on it or anything, but at home it does 95% of what I need, and can do about anything I need for work in a pinch.
I used to use logmein on my home pc to access work pc. It is ok (free maybe?) but the citrix client is much much better, they have an iPad app, GoToMyPC.com can probably provide more details - I don't have an iPad yet, but I hear good things about it even on that hw.I use logmein to access my company quick books on the iPad. Works great.
Is the swap free? If it is free absolutely swap it.Got a free iPad first version and was just told I could swap it for the new one. Any reason I shouldn't do this.?
how is this different than putting a video file in dropbox?Hmmm, just searched this thread and the FFA for oPlayer and came up empty, anyone use it? You can sideload videos via wifi (outside of iTunes), also it uses the Quicktime plugin for any iPhone/iPad formatted movies so you get the benefits of the hardware accelerated iPad player w/o having to go through iTunes for purchasing the video (at least I think that is the drawback of using the stock player). I downloaded the free 'Lite' version first to try it out.
the sideload feature is probably the same or similar, it also plays other formats (The full list of supported formats includes MP3, WMA, RM, AAC, WMV, AVI, MKV, RMVB, XVID, MP4, MOV, 3GP and MPG). Actually come to think of it, if you upload it to your dropbox that means you need to wait to download it from your drop box too, so that takes twice as long, by sideloading you drop it directly on your iPad in half the timehow is this different than putting a video file in dropbox?Hmmm, just searched this thread and the FFA for oPlayer and came up empty, anyone use it? I'm going to check this out, thanks. I'm never really in a hurry to get a video on my ipad--usually loading up a couple movies for my daughter if she gets bored on a long trip or something, but the additional supported formats is definitely a plus.the sideload feature is probably the same or similar, it also plays other formats (The full list of supported formats includes MP3, WMA, RM, AAC, WMV, AVI, MKV, RMVB, XVID, MP4, MOV, 3GP and MPG). I asked a similar question earlier. I get the HD vids on YouTube with out jailbreak but they are a very slow download. So slow it is unwatchable.do you need to jailbreak to get HD youtube videos? Hate how everything is pixelated to hell
What are some of your interests?Just read the last 10 pages of this thread, only app suggestions I see are NCAA App, iSwifter, and Skyfire - any good apps people can recommend?
Was looking for some suggestions myself. Trying to make this corporate rollout wow people as much as possible. Have office apps covered, file sharing with this mobilEcho software. Email, all the core stuff. Have played with stuff like air display for an extra monitor, using the vga adapter for presentations on a projector, wise pocket cloud for remote PC/server access. Scanning, which seems to suck on iPad because the camera sort of blows. Going to mess with FaceTime for video conferencing. So, what other apps out there are going to make someone in the corporate world say "wow, this is way better than how I'm used to doing it"?Just read the last 10 pages of this thread, only app suggestions I see are NCAA App, iSwifter, and Skyfire - any good apps people can recommend?
Any that stand above the rest? I'm a unix guy mostly, so getting into productivity apps is kind of out of my area of expertise. I saw this article 30 useful apps for business and presentation and a ton of this stuff looks really cool but I'm wondering which are really going to offer value and improve the way laptop oriented people are used to doing things. There are a number of reporting and statistics apps that are visually wonderful in showing data like sales and hours, etc.
Wait for the Sandy Bridge Macbook Air's coming out next month. I'm a PC guy but that a lot of HP in a tiny machine. The 11" isn't much bigger than an iPad and is much more useful. So wasn't sure if this was worth its own thread but figure I would ask this question here firt. I am thinking about getting either the top of the line Ipad2 or the small macbook air. Not much more expensive to get the macbook air but was wondering what people thought. My job is very intensive with very long hours and the need to be connected at all times. People tend to be shocked at the times I work and client demands. I wanted to get a mobile device so I would be a little less tied to my laptop so was thinking I would get an Ipad but given how small the macbook air is and the price difference not being major was thinking about getting the macbook air. However, don't want to just turn myself into carrying around a new laptop around with me. Any thoughts on this one.

M&A attorney at a large NYC law firm. Very demanding clients that expect responses any day at all times of the day. I don't think I would do any serious drafting on it but want it for mobility to view documents at all times and email. My bberry sucks for that kinda stuff. Also, for some drafting in a pinch but if I go anywhere for a significant time my laptop goes with me already. The hope is it would free me up some to avoid having a laptop at all times. I would think if I got the small macbook air it really wouldn't replace a laptop either. The Ipad also look like fun and would probably be a bit of a toy. Not sure the airbook has that aspect.ETA - That my firm will pay up to a 1,000 bucks for it so really kind of a free money. Don't mind spending over the 1,000 for airbook but don't want to go crazy. What do you do for work. I'm also an attorney and picked up the iPad2 a few weeks ago. I like it a lot but there's no way I'd want to do any business related typing on it aside from firing off a few quick-hit emails.M&A attorney at a large NYC law firm. What about getting a bluetooth keyboard so that you could do regular typing when needed, but still have the iPad for other stuff? This. I assume with the Air you can get it either 3g enabled or have some sort of plug in? Don't want to be tied to WiFi alone.This. Get an Air.I'm also an attorney and picked up the iPad2 a few weeks ago. You can get a refurbed one with warranty for $429:first, go to this link and type in zip code, press continue:My boss is selling an ipad1, 64gb 3g with cover. The best offer he has right now is $400. Anyone interested?
If cost isn't an issue, get the new Air that is coming out.If cost is an issue and you want a keyboard, get an Asus Transformer. What about getting a bluetooth keyboard so that you could do regular typing when needed, but still have the iPad for other stuff?
For what it is worth, the Apple Geniuses were stumped at multiple managerial levels. "That shouldn't happen." Well, thanks. All I can do now is hope it doesn't happen in the future if/when I ever plug my iPad back into my computer.Bye bye, data. After I purchased my ipad2 in May, I updated it through iTunes as instructed when I first received it. I then unplugged it and have been perfectly happy using it since then.Last night, I plugged it back into my computer to upload some photographs from a recent trip. It asked me to update the software, and I did it. It asked if I wanted to back up my apps in iTunes, and I did it. I then moved all the photographs to the iPad.I noticed today that ALL of my apps were removed from the iPad. When I opened iTunes, they were all listed there, with a check mark next to them and apparently synched. I plugged in my iPad, hit the sync button and all of the apps were delivered back to the iPad. All my data from all the apps is missing. It is like I just installed every one.I don't understand the synching process. Why did I lose everything? Why were the apps removed in the first place? Is there any way to get that data back? I'm so frustrated. I thought I was being good by backing up everything, and now I've lost everything that I've done on the iPad for the last two months. Can anyone help?
No. Not at all.I'm not a fan of the one you linked for two reasons. 1) The leather covers too much of the front of the ipad adding bulk. 2)I like to keep the ipad on the arm of the sofa. For this, you need a wide stable base. The Toblino provides a wide stable base in all 3 viewing positions. The AYL would probably fall over in the upright position.
I would hazard a guess that is more ipads sold last quarter than all other tablets combined for the last 12 months.I just don't see any other manufacturer getting enough market share to make this a viable fight.ipad v. android = ipod v. mp3This will also accelerate the move to html5 over flash on the internet imo.Sales of both iPads and iPhones were strong during the quarter: The company said it sold 9.25 million iPads during the quarter, nearly triple the amount it sold a year earlier.
