So we're ignorant for not wanting to answer a question that has already been answered in here multiple times? We're not your interns, Leno.Thx for explaining the WHY, just saying "No" comes across as ignorant. We've been trying to tell you this for three pages. Thx.So according to this thread even though you can use the iPhone (or any other phone) to tether to laptops and netbooks via bluetooth, Apple specifically put code into the iPad to not recognize bluetooth internet connections (for lack of a better term). Jailbreaking the iPhone enables the use of the phone as a wifi hotspot.
Just thought I would bring some education into this thread. Yet another technological restriction imposed on the iPadLock

I'm not an apple owner so I don't know what they call their laptops. And I want to see an iPad but don't want to buy one. How this makes me a "hater" or how my post deserves a

Nice. That I like. Someone with a sense of humor.iPadHTHHow about everyone that has one post a picture showing us your iPad and custom background? See how everyone has there's setup
Actually it is not AT&T; People have been able to pair their nokia phones (using other carriers) to the iPad over bluetooth, but the iPad refuses to use the phone as a modem.I'd be curious using the usb port through the camera connection kit as well, but the experts in this thread would rather respond with ambiguous responses and hints then actually experiment. I'd assume the iPadLock dictates how the usb port is used as well.Hint: AT&TThx.Thx for explaining the WHY, just saying "No" comes across as ignorant. We've been trying to tell you this for three pages. Don't have an iPad so I honestly don't know the specifics on this. I do know that Apple allows the iPhone to be used a tether for laptops everywhere except in the U.S., where they had to disable the functionality at AT&T's behest. I also know that an employee of mine has been able to tether the iPad using his Android phone. So it can be done. All signs point to AT&T; I see no reason Apple would care considering they are open to iPhone tethering.Actually it is not AT&T; People have been able to pair their nokia phones (using other carriers) to the iPad over bluetooth, but the iPad refuses to use the phone as a modem.I'd be curious using the usb port through the camera connection kit as well, but the experts in this thread would rather respond with ambiguous responses and hints then actually experiment. Also I disagree that using a hotspot with the iPad should be called tethering. Tethering to me has always been pairing a computer device with a phone to enable internet connectivity, not connecting a computer to a router.

I thought Apple pulled that from the app store pretty quickly. Did they ever allow it back in like they do so many apps when people complain? Netshare I think is what it was called.are they using the android as a wifi hotspot though? From what I researched I think that is the only way it works (using wifi instead of bluetooth). There was a download for the iPhone for AT&T that allowed you to tether the iPhone to laptops without jailbreaking. Like I said previously I was able to get it to work at the time. I don't use it to tether regularly so I don't know if they have since patched this. I know the UI capability still exists on my iPhone though so I would think it still works (otherwise I think they would have removed the network ui on the iPhone).
believe it or not, it was not an app, someone posted a link in the iPhone thread, maybe search that - let me take a look and see if the link still works. This wasn't the original link I used, but it looks like a non-jailbreak solution:I thought Apple pulled that from the app store pretty quickly. I work at a artsy-high-tech company, so the latest gadgets are always popular here, especially Apple gadgets.I just picked up my iPad 3G from the mailroom, turned it on and...the "please connect to iTunes" screen comes up. UGH! They expect me to wait 3 more hours to use this thing?!?! Jerks.Funny you mention this. I'd like to see one, but have yet to find a single person that owns one where I work. And I work with a bunch of analysts and techno-geeks. The dude that sits next to me has a Macbook (or whatever the laptop is called) plus an iPhone. Several others have the phones, they are always talking about apps for those. But not one of them bought an iPad. Peer pressure hasn't worked. But I'll keep trying.I'm surrounded by the future. I can't swing a cat at work these days without hitting an iPad.

Next time ask the store to do the iTunes connect for you before you leave. Let's you play with it on the way homeI work at a artsy-high-tech company, so the latest gadgets are always popular here, especially Apple gadgets.I just picked up my iPad 3G from the mailroom, turned it on and...the "please connect to iTunes" screen comes up. "picked up from the mailroom" means "I ordered it from the online apple store and it was shipped to me at work".otherwise, I would've followed your advice.Next time ask the store to do the iTunes connect for you before you leave. Awesome.Back from Apple store. 3G 64GB in hand. I stopped in this afternoon nobody was there, but Apple and the ridiculous sensationalism don't let me buy one ... they go on sale at 5PM, and the store closed between 4 and 5. We go back a while later, big production, line of a couple hundred people probably. We get in about 15 minutes in buy one and we're out the door.So now I need to post up my 32GB Wifi version on eBay tonight. Supposedly they are still fetching more than we paid for them if we sell internationally. Was interesting, they weren't taking cash purchases -- credit card only, so they could track who was buying them and how many. They apparently want to limit the folks who are exporting them. Some teenage kid only had cash, so he gave me his cash and I bought his on my card. Was relatively painless. In any event, given the amount I use this thing, my fiance convinced me that the 15-30 bucks a month is totally worth it. Pretty psyched. Also, even though I was only using a little more than half my 32GB, I figured, since I seem to be using this thing a ton, it made sense to upgrade to the 64GB. I'm going through the restore and setup now. Supposedly it is setting the thing up just as my old one was. We'll see. Also curious to see how the AT&T data plan setup works.![]()

welcome to the future, and trust me, the more you use it the more you'll love it.Picked mine up yesterday too. This is my first non-iPod apple device. Everything working great so far. This thing is going to get used a lot. Now I am going back through all of my pre-purchase research and getting all of apps and tweaks that I had flagged. I am using the pogo sketch stylus because it just feels natural. The keyboard is giving me zero issues going this route.

From the Apple site...No-contract 3G service.AT&T 3G Data Plans for iPadData per month Price per month250MB $14.99Unlimited $29.99In the United States, 3G service is available through a breakthrough deal with AT&T. You choose the amount of data per month you want to buy — 250MB or unlimited. If you choose the 250MB plan, you’ll receive onscreen messages as you get close to your monthly data limit so you can decide whether to turn off 3G or upgrade to the unlimited plan. Best of all, there’s no contract. So if you have a business trip or vacation approaching, just sign up for the month you’ll be traveling and cancel when you get back. You don’t need to visit a store to get 3G service. You can sign up, check your data usage, manage your account, or cancel your service — all from your iPad.I played with an ipad at Best Buy this morning and can say its as impressed as I've ever been with a tech device. They have done a great job with this thing. I have a handful of gadgets that I don't use that I'll be craigslisting to get some free cash to grab an ipad. Can anyone help me understand the two different 3g plans? How much/little is the 19$ plan compared to the $30 (or whatever). Does it require a contract, or is it a la cart?
The thing about the 3G plan is to know if/how fast you will get to 250megs of use. $15 gets you one month OR 250megs whichever comes first. When/if you switch to unlimited it starts a whole new billing month. So if you hit 250 in a week then you would have been better going with unlimited from the start. There is no contract.I played with an ipad at Best Buy this morning and can say its as impressed as I've ever been with a tech device. FYI, 250MB goes very fast. Im 30Mb in already, after 24hours, and i have wifi in my apartment. Went to an Apple store yesterday to test out the Ipod touch as I need to replace my old broken Ipod. Played around on the Ipad for a bit, is it really anything more than an Ipod touch with a bigger screen? I don't get it. Certainly wouldn't prefer it to a laptop or netbook.
Tried one out too & thought the same thing afterward.I think he meant a headache with connection issues, not a physical headache? If you're taking this seriously, you are pathetic. I really don't get it because there are at least 8 other Wi-Fi connections running already in the vicinity every time I turn on my iPad.XI think he meant a headache with connection issues, not a physical headache?
