iPad (1 Viewer)

My wife just got me an ipad 2 wifi version for my birthday yesterday. I can not think of one reason I really want it and am inclined to return it. I have an iphone 4. Is there any reason to keep the ipad other then its cool, or you can read things easier because it has a big screen.ETA: My MIL got me that arcade thing that gmbacm linked in the post above this. That will need to be returned too
Do you fly? It's great for airplanes, reading magazines like Wired, using it to control your TV (most cable providers have an App) - much much better than the stock cable guide you use for your TV. Plus you can type show names into it easier than the cable remote.
I dont fly. I would like to get something to read things digitally, just not sure something like a nook or kindle wouldnt be better or easier. I have an app for my phone for my cable system.
Travel is my number 1 use for it at this point. My wife and I had a ten hour flight from Europe a few months back and watched movies and tv shows the entire time, and the battery wasn't even completely drained when we landed. I like it for reading books too, but I would get a kindle if I only wanted something for this purpose as its easier on the eyes. It is also much nicer to surf the Internet on when you are just hanging out in the living room than the iPhone, but I realize that 500 bucks is a very high price for that luxury if that's all you are getting out of it.

Thanks. A lot of the feeback I have gotten is along these lines. Most people just say, but its so cool. I dont think that is reason enough to keep it. Thanks for the input

Interesting. I have the Ipad 2 and the Iphone 4 - both purchased in the last 6 months (I think I did things backwards as I got the IPad before the IPhone). First Apple things I ever got. If I had to give up one or the other it's a no-brainer: the IPhone. If my IPad were lost/stolen I'd get another one today. If my IPhone were lost/stolen I'd probably switch back to a bberry or try a droid. I think the IPhone sucks as a phone (lousy reception, battery life) but there is no way I could get by without the Ipad. I Travel a lot so that is a factor but even if I didn't it would still get an incredible amount of use. Just my $0.02.

Are apps only available through Apple or can you also get them through Amazon App Store. I know nothing about Apple products but my wife is looking to get the guys in her tech department a little gift and I suggested some kind of coupon for the Amazon App Store. Some of them use droids and some iphones.thx
amazon is android only. itunes is apple only.

You can not get amazon apps for iphone. You have to get apps from itunes

I love that it is instant on - internet, facebook, whatever. It's much easier and lighter than toting around a macbook, too. I barely use my computer unless it is to download/sync.

:goodposting: My wife got me one for my birthday on Tuesday. I like the fact that if I'm laying in bed or on the couch I can just reach over, grab it and 'WA LA' I'm on the webs.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. I guess I get the same feeling on my phone. I dont feel the need to have both and I guess that is what my holdup is. Im not concerned with a bigger screen, I think my phone is fine. Plus, my phone is 3G so I can do that anywhere. the ipad is just wifi only (the one my wife got). I dont really use my laptop much so Im not trying to replace it. Im pretty sure I will be returning it but want to thank everyone again for their input

Another vote for flipboard. Awesome app

***wound up keeping the iPad when my wife got upset about me returning it. Glad I kept it so far

Another cool use is board games. It is sort of fun to bust out monopoly and play with a couple people without having to set up a board and deal with all the money.

Acer > I'd get it just for the TV guide to be honest. I want to throw my remote at my TV sometimes (ok the cable box). My freaking provider allows me to see 5 channels in the guide at once, the rest is preview and :hot: advertisement that you need to scroll through to get to the next page.

iPad - I can filter by HD, I can filter by sports or movies - I can find what I want in about 5 seconds, compared to 5 minutes trying to scroll through hundreds of channels. Plus I can always just search for something by using the keyboard, but that is just a last resort.

I've got a question and I've had no luck google searching it. I've got a 16 GB iPad 2. Recently when listening to Spotify, I started getting a message of "storage is almost full". When I look at my storage in my settings, Spotify is using nearly 14 GB and the rest of my apps are using very little. But I can't figure out why it's taking up so much space, and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any ideas? I think it's a matter of my Spotify saving songs to my local drive, but I can't figure out how to disable it.

Do you have an "offline" playlist and if so, how large is it?

I think it is the problem, but how the hell do I get rid of it? I think it's a Spotify issue and not an iPad issue.

There is a very long conversation here. It's over a year old so it appears that spotify is the problem. Near the end of the thread you'll find this:
Hey everyone.

I too have a iPhone 4, been using the spotify app for a while now and have experienced the dreaded 'low disk space' warning on the phone.

Currently spotify have not released an update for their app to allow you to refresh or delete the cache. Thus preventing you from gaining your memory back after removing the offline files.

BUT... I have found an answer.

Download a program called iphoneexplorer. They have released a new version called iexplorer but that doesn't seem to delete the folder.

Heres the link to the program:

http://iphone-explorer.en.softonic.co...

Install the program and follow this to find the folder you need to delete.

Double Click on your iphone, it will appear at the top of the windows.

Double Click on to Apps

Scroll down and double click onto Spotify

Double click onto Library

Right click Cache and click delete.

It may take a while and might appear to have frozen but bare with it and when its resumed, the capacity preview at the bottom will display the new amount used.

Its worked for me, hope it helps you!!

Whats the rumor summary for ipad3? Will there be hdmi? A tranformer prime type keyboard/dock?
No and no.
Well that kind of sucks.
Why? iPad can already do HDMI via a simple adapter and there are plenty of third-party iPad keyboard/docks available.
I'm afraid to go and look, but what's this adapter cost? $40-$50??
$39 msrp.

removed to save space
Interesting...I had a feeling it was a Spotify problem but couldn't find anything for it. I don't even care about my playlists - I don't want it to save any of my music offline, to be honest. I wonder if I go into the full settings on my PC and update it, if it will do anything before I install that program. Thanks.

I think there is a strictly streaming version of spotify...might be your best bet.

The adapter is kind of a bull#### work around.I would rather have something made by apple as a dock/keyboard as I trust them to fully integrate their own products better. The Prime is very attractive at this point. I have been waiting on a tablet. Considered the iPad2, but didn't feel it was ready. I will be getting the iPad3, the Prime, or something else before summer I think.

Sure, the adapter is a work-around, but if you're already carrying an HDMI cable around what's the difference? They are both work-arounds for AirPlay anyway.

Works with iPad, iPhone 4/ 4S and iPod Touch, IIRC.

Sorry...I meant outside of Apple products. It was a question back to your "what's the difference" question above. The difference is, it's yet ANOTHER adapter you have to buy. If I have a laptop and an iPad, I have to buy another cord at $40 because the existing hdmi cable I have won't fit the iPad. That and the fact that I can get a standard HDMI cable for $5.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty clear that if it needs an adaptor, "the difference" is that you have to buy the adaptor. :loco:

Then why did you ask what the difference was if you knew it was buying a ridiculously priced adapter?

C'mon man. I like my iPad but this is a BS response. It's just another way they can nickel and dime us.

I guarantee you that when Apple made the decision to not include a dedicated HDMI-out port on the iPad, the primary reason wasn't because they believed they could make massive profits on selling you an adaptor.

What is the best app for Excel files. I'm seeing about three stars for all of the premium ones (docs to go, quick office, etc) which all cost $10-15

Which is best

Any rumors with any validity regarding iPad 3? Thinking about a refurbished iPad 2, but wondering if the price will come down even further soon.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm headed to FL on March 7 and was thinking I'd like to have an iPad for the trip. Total relaxation trip, so I planned on doing some reading by the pool. Really don't enjoy reading e-books on my iPhone. But I don't want to spend $419 on a refurbished iPad2 now just to watch them drop in price in a month.

I guarantee you HDMI is not included because Apple knew people would buy the iPad without it. Making a nice profit on the adapter is just a bonus. No one is to blame for lack of HDMI except for Apple buyers themselves.
