How many of you iPad owners have the 3G version and is it worth the extra $$? I already have an iPhone, so I wouldn't think I'd have much use for the 3G feature on the iPad. But am I missing anything?

Had a dead home button and a dead pixel. Took it in for a tech appointment and was walking out with a new iPad in 7 minutes.

Setting up the new iPad from an iCloud backup was absolutely flawless. Everything restored exactly back to how I was set up at the time of the backup. Even saved the web pages I had open when then backup ran. Kudos for getting this perfected, Apple.

You need to turn it on in the iCloud settings on your iPad to auto backup. Or you can force a backup to the iCloud while in iTunes.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm headed to FL on March 7 and was thinking I'd like to have an iPad for the trip. Total relaxation trip, so I planned on doing some reading by the pool. Really don't enjoy reading e-books on my iPhone. But I don't want to spend $419 on a refurbished iPad2 now just to watch them drop in price in a month.

I love my ipad, but reading by the pool doesn't work too well. The screen washes out in sunlight. Get a kindle for this purpose.

I'm not sure a Kindle helps me. My books are mostly purchased through a company called Logos and I'm pretty sure I need to use one of their apps to access the books. Would have to be a tablet (or phone, or computer), not an e-reader.

iPad 3 to be Thicker than iPad 2

Due to the likely inclusion of Retina Display and 4G connectivity, it looks like the iPad 3 is going to be a bit thicker than previous generations. Likely due to the need for a larger battery to maintain the stellar 10hr useage life.

I think with all of the lower priced tablets on the market now we might see a quicker drop in the price of the iPad2...at least I'm hoping that's the case. I think it would make sense for Apple from a competitive standpoint.

I think with all of the lower priced tablets on the market now we might see a quicker drop in the price of the iPad2...at least I'm hoping that's the case. I think it would make sense for Apple from a competitive standpoint.

They are still killing it at the prices they are now. Though ICS is a fantastic tablet OS. It just hasn't really hit any big hardware platforms yet.

It's a done deal. Processor will be a shrink of the A5. An A5X or something they are calling it.

Most rumors now seem to suggest that the A5X processor that we saw in a possibly fake mainboard photo the other day is a quad core part.

Oh no it’s not!

However, there are those who think that the A5X is a speed bumped dual-core part. Personally, I’m not convinced that the A5X is genuine at this stage and take all rumors relating to it as speculative.

While certain folks are definitely pointing away from quad-core... calling it a certainty seems a bit premature from what I've read. ESPECIALLY when coming from apple.

Question: is the ipad like the iphone when it comes to only being able to sync with one computer? Or is it like the ipod that can sync on multiple computers that has your itunes account?

One rumor discussed the possibility of the price point for the iPad 3 needing to be ~$80 higher due to the retina display, which if accurate would open up a need for a lower tier product category. Depends on how aggressive Apple wants to get with the lower tier and attacking the Amazon Fire market. My guess would be that $299 is too low, they might only do $399 wifi / $499 3G, without different storage options. Not even sure they could go $299 and maintain their margins, but it would make Fire buyers think twice for sure.

Apple on Tuesday sent out official invitations for a media event to be held next Wednesday, March 7, in San Francisco where it is expected to introduce its next-generation iPad.

The March 7 event will be held at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Calif., the same place the last two iPad unveilings have been held. The invitation features a finger pushing down on an iOS calendar icon with March 7 as the date.

"We have something you really have to see. And touch," the invitation reads.

The inclusion that people will "have to see" the new device is likely a reference to the high-resolution Retina Display that Apple is expected to add to its next-generation iPad. Rumors have suggested the display will have a resolution of 2,048 by 1,536 pixels, which would be twice the resolution of the 1,024-by-768 screen found on the iPad 2.

In fact, the invitation itself could even be a picture of the new iPad display. The image does show a very crisp iPad screen that could be a higher resolution than the current iPad 2.

Apple's invitations went out only moments after financial network CNBC incorrectly claimed that the next iPad would be unveiled at an event in New York next week. However, reporter Jon Fortt quickly followed up to explain that he has heard that New York will play a "key" role in next week's announcement.

The March 7 event date has been expected for weeks now, but Tuesday's invitations were the first official confirmation of the media briefing from Apple. Recent reports out of the Far East have suggested that Apple could offer near-immediate availability of the new iPad, with claims that the new devices are already being shipped to the U.S.

The last few weeks have seen a whirlwind of iPad-related rumors in anticipation of the event. Another purported leak from a Chinese microblogging site has suggested that Apple's high-definition Retina Display could add a previously unexpected $80 premium to the price of the iPad, pushing the entry level price up to $579 for the Wi-Fi-only 16GB model. All Wi-Fi models would see an $80 price boost, the documents suggest, while 3G-capable models would see their prices rise $70 each.

Other changes to the iPad are expected to be largely internal, with evidence of a faster processor and potential 4G LTE connectivity having surfaced in recent weeks. On the outside, the next iPad is expected to look largely the same, with an external case featuring edges slightly more tapered than the iPad 2.

Another leak showed a purported "iPad 3" logic board, featuring a processor labeled "A5X," suggesting the chip could be a more powerful version of the A5 CPU currently found in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S rather than a full-fledged "A6" upgrade. Reports have also been divided as to whether the next iPad will be powered by a quad-core processor or a dual-core CPU.

You can already buy a refurbished iPad 2 for $419 through Apple, so I think they'd be able to go to $399 for a new iPad 2 and $319-$329 for a refurb. If that happens, I'd jump on a refurb for sure.

With iCloud and iTunes Match, I don't think I'd ever spend the money for anything more than 16GB
