iPad (1 Viewer)

I feel bad for the people that bought the iPad2 less than a year ago, or worse yet the people that ran to get the original iPad. This iPad3 seems like the original concept is fully being realized.
I've got the original iPad, and if I broke it today I wouldn't regret purchasing it. I'll upgrade eventually, and I'm sure the new iPad is outstanding, but I'm glad I didn't wait to buy one.
Yea I don't get that comment. I paid 500 bucks for my iPad some 2 years ago and have used it daily since. Why would I wait 2 years.
yeah his comment makes no sense. If you follow his line of reasoning you should never buy a piece of technology since there will always be something better next year.I am extremely happy with my iPad 2 purchase. When it eventually dies or is missing a feature I really need, then I will upgrade to what ever the best is at that time. Until then I am perfectly happy.

iPad $399.

11:19 am iPad 2 staying on sale!
Yeah, I can't understand why anyone would drop 4 bills on the 2 when the new iPad is just $100 more.
Exactly. They walk in thinking they'll buy a iPad 2, and walk out with a New iPad for just a $100 more.
This only works on the unintelligent. An adopter of the tablet sees the $400+ price as not a good bargain nor one that wants to be taken. If a person alhas not adopted this technology before, they won't for $400 either. This is where I am. I have not purchased a tablet yet but I will not adopt it either at that price tag since a case is "needed". Move the point to $300 and I'm all in and ready.
This softball (more like a beach ball) is sitting out there and NO ONE has turned on it?? What's happened to the FFA?? ;)

Now im semi panicing. Will picture quality be impacting by the white? Tvs all have black bezels.
I don't get why people get the white one for that reason. It's distracting when watching video.I always thought the white was more of a fashion thing for women.
I read one thing real quick before purchase yesterday saying white was cleaner and made for better blacks in video. Then last night everything i read was opposite. Do you think i can edit my order or will it mess up my delivery date now?

I can't believe that memory garners these kinds of premiums. We should be up to 256 Gb like it's nothing by now.
THIS!IMO this is the biggest beef I have with the iOS system (that other manufacturers have fallen in line with)... It frustrates me that we pay 100 bucks for 16gb or 32gb of flash memory in this day. Yes, 5 years ago that would be a ridiculous statement but IMO apple will have to look at this within the next generation or two. They can't hold off cheap swappable flash storage forever... Cloud or no cloud.
I would think there's gotta be a way to get 16gb version, open the sucker up and plop in a 64gb or even a 128gb chip, even if it requires a little soldering - I could see someone making a business out of this.

Could someone explain how 4g is only on AT&T
I was the one that posted that. I was watching the techcrunch live feed and to be honest the two people on there seemed clueless as the feed went on. From what they said it would be initially only available in 4G on ATT, then wouldcome out on VZW. HOWEVER I would take that with a grain of salt because, again, these two seemed lost while on camera.
If this is true, then the "4G" will be useful in a handful of locations. I know people won't think about that, but I still can't believe it
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/ios-5-1-4g-indicator-att-iphone/
Ever since T-Mobile and AT&T began touting their HSPA+ networks as "4G," the debate on the term's legitimacy has raged on. Regardless of how you feel about the matter, one thing's for sure: Apple's finally taken sides on the argument, and the company's all for it. In today's iOS update, Cupertino features an "updated AT&T network indicator," which means you'll see a 4G icon whenever you're in HSPA+ coverage. Granted, this doesn't actually mean you'll enjoy faster speeds -- you'll just have a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that another G just got added to your screen. Such an action makes us wonder if Apple's slowly losing its ability to stand up against AT&T's wishes, not to mention the demands of other US carriers.
I have 4g lte at my house but I drive 10 minutes East I lose it  but AT&T has 4g at my work but Verizon I can't get it.

Ok, I'm in. Went with a "new" (really dumb name, btw) black 32 GB wifi with a blue leather smart cover. Liked the look of the tan, but figured it would look dirty faster than a darker cover Plan on using it a lot as a reader, so the new screen ought to be easier on my eyes. After reading some of the hands on reviews I was convinced that the retina display would be worth the extra $. Looking forward to the 16th.

Just a quick relay from a friend of mine, who used to work at teh Apple stores, does not recommend the smart cover if you really are looking for "shock" protection.

It's a good cover for general protection, normal wear and tear but not great if the ipad is dropped.

he shattered his ipad2 screen dropping it 3 feet onto the sidewalk and has seen many screen breaks with that cover on.

FWIW

His recommendation is an Otterbox

This is his 2.

I'll say that it's insanely good looking on the phone. I can't imagine 10" of 300ppi glass.

Good move, I think the display itself will be well worth the extra $$. Congrats on the iPad!

Yeah, have an iPhone 4S, so I already appreciate the display. Typing this on my iPhone and the retina display is the only reason these 46 yr old eyes can handle web browsing on my phone.

Just cancelled the white and went with the Black 32GB wifi and cream leather cover.

I feel a little dumb now after all the crap I did yesterday to order ASAP. :bag:

How often are people dropping these things? I just got the cover to protect the screen when in a bag and because of the tilts it does for typing and viewing on a desk/table/plane-tray.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I realize it's a different size, but I don't think I've dropped my smart phone (Droid or iPhone) even once. Not all that concerned about a cover doing anything but protecting the screen while it's in my backpack. And having it double as a stand is a bonus.

I dropped mine back in December and the screen cracked. I had a smart cover and a case logic back cover. Apple replaced it for free.

Was it covered under Apple Care when you dropped it?

Recently was given an iPad for work.

Question: I have several digital comic books on my home PC that I can use a program called Comical to view. Being new to the whole Apple thing, is there a way to either put those files on the iPad, or to get them into iCloud, so that I can use an app to view them on the iPad? And secondly, what app should I use to view them?

I think that's what I'm going to go with too although I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Do they ever stop the pre-order process or would they just push the availability out further than the 16th?

I have Apple care for my iphone4. Can I add iPad to it for free?
Nope. AC is a per-device deal. FYI there are usually some great discounts on Apple Care on Ebay. I got AC for my Macbook Pro for about half the cost of direct from Apple. Same package. Registered it with apple. No issues.

Why is everyone going with the 32GB instead of the 64GB for $100 more?

I have a 32GB iPhone4 and I am probably at 28GB without having an insane amount of songs/movies/pictures on it. I have to imagine the iPad is going to fill up quicker with the extra resolution in the camera and videos.

You will need to find out what format the comics are in, then do some legwork (if it is a random format and not one natively supported by Apple) to find an App that will view them. If it's a relatively common format I'm sure there is something that will work. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/06/top-five-ipad-comic-book-apps-reviewed/

I don't plan on taking a lot of video and pics with the ipad itself. I assume I can DL a movie on my work or home PC to iTunes, iCloud will automatically DL it to the other PC when I open iTunes, and I can manually add/subtract movies music to the iPad whenever I want, but still have them stored on 2 PCs. Right?

Good point. I will probably continue using my iPhone for pictures and video now that you mention it...

Yes, it will stream from a single location IIRC. FYI the iPad is great for video as it's a huge viewfinder :)

I just don't understand why Apple doesn't put a microSD slot, miniusb and hdmi port in these things. I will never buy one because of it. I guess I know why, you have to spend an extra $70 in accessories and $100 for a $13 flash chip. The genius of it is fanboys call this a "feature".

Same here. I'm usually within wifi range and have iTunes Match. My 32 GB iPhone has plenty of room, so I saw no need to go to 64GB. I already spent the extra $100 to go to 32 GB, I'm not going to spend another $100 for space I'm not sure I'll really need.ETA: sometimes I really hate the autocorrect spelling feature.

Impressive. For all the criticism that people like to throw at Apple for overcharging for things, I'm not sure there's a company out there that takes better care of their customers.

Could probably do without the 'fanboy' part, but let's ignore his point and focus on it instead. FWIW...the rest of it is spot on. Makes no sense to me as a consumer. Makes all the sense in the world for Apple as a revenue generator.

Aside from the last sentence, can you dispute anything I said? What is the legitimate reason in your mind for excluding these features when cheaper tablets have them? The Asus Transformer Prime has a microhdmi and microsd slot and it's thinner than the new iPad.

My comment was in reference to the one and the fanboy comments but yes I agree it's unfortunate they've not included those features. Of course, the pricing in his post is a bit absurd as well. Can get an HDMI out port, plus a card reader for about $30 total. The $100 for a $13 flash chip is a bit odd as well, unless he's talking about the upcharge from 16 to 32 and such... but every OEM has similar charges for capacity increases. :shrug:hen again, I don't want logic to get in the way of his overemtional rant. Carry on gsmayes. Work thyself into a lather.

Well for starters why use clunky cables tethering you to the TV when you've got a far more elegant solution with Airplay?

Is that through Apple TV?And hell, if this screen is better than my 1080p Samsung TV, I might as well use the ipad.

Does Airplay allow me to connect an iPad to the HDTV in my hotel room when I am traveling so I can enjoy a movie on a large screen?
Well i travel extensively and I rarely am in the room watching movies, however If you bring the wallet sized AppleTV box, then you get to enjoy the nice wireless experience of Airplay. That way you're not having to sit 6' away from the TV, or have to jump up off the bed every time you want to pause or rewind something. :shrug:If you're dead set on tethering your tablet to the TV via HDMI via physical cable then yes, you have to come off a whopping $28. :) If I had an iPad with retina display I'd likely rather watch the movie on that screen. Likely a much better picture than the in-room TV. :yes:That said... the MAJORITY of the "streaming" i do from my iphone or ipad is at home. Music, videos, etc... that thats much much better through airplay. I can have my iphone in my pocket, adjust playlists, songs from anywhere around the house. Cables are a dying breed. Old technology.

Right. But for me, I can't imagine too many situations where I will have my iPad on me but not my iPhone. So I really don't anticipate putting any music on my iPad.

I love how every solution you offer is to buy something extra. Personally, I'm not too keen on spending $28 on something that I assume costs less than a dollar to make. And hey, if I'm going to spend $30 on a freaking cable, I might as well go with the AppleTV for $100.Apple makes good software, no doubt, but it's not worth the price premium they put on their hardware. I just don't get it, if they added these cheap features that don't really add to the cost much, it'd be by far the best tablet out there. Instead, they purposely cripple it for some people.

I remember way back when the first ipad was announced...I thought what a dumb idea, who needs that, we have $300 netbooks, this thing is going to fail.

I've resisted the tablet market altogether til now(somehow) but I think I'm jumping in here

My biggest "negative" is lack of expandable memory, that is about it  streaming to TV etc doesnt "bother" me really
