Iragi dinars for sale on ebay (1 Viewer)

nightmare

Footballguy
I'm foolin around on ebay and i got linked to some guy

selling Iragi dinars-$1,000,000 worth, you get 40 $25,000 notes.

I did a currency converter and $25,000 in dinars comes out to $19 and change in US dollars.

The current bid on ebay is up to $800.

Are these currency collectors? or just a bunch of suckers? or both?

Heard about this on the radio. It's become a bit of a fad to invest in dinars and there are a lot of them available on E-Bay. It's likely legit. Of course, it's speculative at best that the dinars will appreciate. Not a safe investment, but if Iraq turns around eventually it could work out.

I don't think they are good for anything but novelty. Last I checked they are only usable in Iraq. The Dinar itself is tough to value because the prices on it vary wildly from dealer to dealer. Most dealers who sell them in the US will not buy them back, and US banks won't trade them either, so hard to recognize any kind of profit.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Thanks

Hence them selling on eBay. Makes sense.

This Iraqi Dinar "investment" scheme is still going strong. I have a friend with a decent head on his shoulders who just bought 250,000 new dinars for about $270. A dealer in California (this guy) Fed-exed them to him yesterday. He keeps telling me they are going to be revalued anyday now and the rumored exchange rate will be roughly 1 dinar = $3 USD. He honestly believes his $270 investment is going to turn into $750,000 just like that. :lmao:

I've read a few articles from nasdaq.com shooting holes in the scheme, but do any of the financial guys know anything about this?

There is a guy in my neighborhood that is about to lose his house as he sits on Iraqi and Afghanistani money. :lmao: Idiot.

Exactly.

The idea isn't much different then trading other currency. The theory is the US will continue to spend and print trillions of dollars and Iraq will pump oil and turn the economy around with all the capital investment the US is doing. Our $ is worth less, the IRQ is worth more. Not a bad idea really, except that it's a war ravaged country that would fall apart the moment we leave.

I wouldn't invest your parents retirement in it, but I have heard of way bigger scams then this. This MIGHT work out in ten years. I don't know about this "repeg at 3-1 ratio" talk is coming from.

Personaly I am going to buy some Zimbabwe dollars - not for an investment but for show. I would love to say someday that "I'll bet you 100 Trillion Dollars" and mean it. Or even "I raise - 100 trillion dollars".

JAA might faint.

Iraqi Dinar 'investement' is still a scheme, right? My bro-in-law bought some and was trying to convince me to do the same. He can't wait for the magical re-evaluation of the currency to happen.

I bought some to throw in my coin/currency collection just because it was cheap and looks pretty cool.

No way will it ever be worth anything or "revalued"

I have a 50 Dinar note in my wallet. It is right next to a 100,000,000,000,000 (yes, trillion) zimbabwe dollar note. They are there for shtick value only.

There isn't going to be some magical revaluing in the next couple of days, but you could always buy some and hope a ruthless, violent dictator makes you rich. That's the only reason I invest anyway.

What does that go for?

I picked up about 50,000 dinar 2 years ago, basically worthless except the personal value.

About a buck or two each on Ebay.Bought 5 a while back. Gave one each to the nieces/nephews and they loved em. Mine comes out every so often for shtick and it's usually worth a good laugh.

I am the proud owner of 250,000 Iragi Dinars, that I have now owned for about 3 years. My ex-SIL and her husband went big into this. They even had this ex-military "connection" that was going to handle all the conversion when these things skyrocketed. They have at least 10,000,000 dinars, and kept trying to talk us and the rest of the family into buying more. My ex was so concerened about it that she got half of the dinars in our divorce settlement. :lmao:

Now who's laughing? Still you.

I bought the head of that huge Saddam Hussein statue on Ebay, the one they kept showing on TV when Bush liberated Baghdad. 60 bucks but the shipping was $3000. It's quite the conversation piece. I made a planter out of it, mostly perennials and a handful of marigolds, geranium, etc. Looks great out by the mailbox.

40 x 20 = 800

So current bid is overpaying by $19?

You must hate how the flowers get destroyed when the Arabs come by and hit it with their sandals.

Which currency has ever appreciated over 10 years?

Still have them I guess. I have no idea what they're worth.

Maybe $200.

Yeah my wife's stepdad got roped into that scheme and convinced her mom they'd be rich in no time. Still waiting.
