I like both Dianno and Dickinson but Piece of Mind and Powerslave are my two favorite albums so Dickinson.

Favorite song is tough, Rime of the Ancient Mariner possibly

I voted that I hate good music, but one of the Maiden songs I always liked was Running Free, so I'll go there. Run To The Hills is pretty awesome, too, but Running Free is less proggy, more punkish, and has a glam stomp (the riff almost rips off Ballroom Blitz), so I'll go there.

Hard to vote against Dickinson. Di'anno was great, but his volume of work is dwarfed by Dickinson, and Dickinson was there during their peak.

Impossible to pick a favorite song, but Infinite Dreams, The Evil that Men Do and the Clairvoyant would be up there. The Seventh Son album is criminally underrated IMO.

Love listening to Maiden while I'm working. Definitely Dickinson era. Wasted Years is probably my favorite song. Just love the intro. Rime of the Ancient Mariner is another one I really enjoy.

I'll only add that I think their later catalog, though widely ignored, is every bit as strong as their earlier stuff, lacking only in nostalgia for lots of the older types.

I'd put The Wicker Man, Paschendale, Rainmaker, No More Lies, Brave New World, or even Dance of the Dead up there with any of the classics.

Di'Anno era is underrated, but the early Dickinson years with NOTB and Piece of Mind were the best IMO.

My fave tune is Hallowed Be Thy Name, with 22 Acacia Avenue a close second. Icarus third.

For me it's easily Dickinson.

Some of my favs . . . Wasted Years, 22 Acacia Avenue, Black Bart Blues.

Also got to check out Flight 666 not too long ago - very cool.

LOVE 7th son.

IMO the quality of albums of their early output (personally I go from Killers to 7th son) rivals any band, any genre. amazing stretch of 6 albums.

Agree 100%. I wish I had better taste in music back then. First time I heard Maiden was at this scary stoner's house in my neighborhood and I literally thought you could get possessed by Satan if you listened to it. I was into Def Leppard and Van Halen when Maiden was at their peak. Got into 7th Son just because it was one of about 30 cassettes I stole from this place Ames where I worked. Thought it was the most brilliant album start to finish I'd ever heard.

Thanks for this thread....just went and pulled down a ton of Maiden. Jamming to Maiden England '88 right now. So f'ing awesome. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Don't really know Iron Maiden so maybe I'm not qualified to vote--I go back to Sabbath. My write-in vote is for Fear of the Dark.

It's splitting hairs, but went with Di'Anno because the I put the first 2 albums on top of the list.

Where is Rime? It's the bands favorite song and is mucho awesome. I voted for hallowed because other is a waste of a vote.

God I loved metal in the 80s. Not hair metal. Real stuff. Maiden. Priest. Gnr, Scorpions, old Metallica, megadeath. Some hard rocking tunes. Hot chicks.

Dickinson

Wasted Years might be my favorite song now, but it changes over the years. Hallowed, flight of Icarus, 2 minutes to midnight, aces high, even Die With Your Boots On have been favorites in the past.

Still play a lot of maiden on the iPod while working around the house. A staple from my high school years with Metallica, ozzy, Crüe, Ratt, etc.

Dickenson and "Hallowed be thy Name" for favorite song.

close second is "Aces High."

"Revelations" is pretty underrated.

:goodposting:

And, I'll take Live After Death version of Hallowed Be Thy Name any day.

Love Maiden.

Too many songs to mention...but like Freelove mentioned their newer output has tons of great stuff too.

Ghost of the Navigator is an amazing song.

Revelations may be my all time favorite tune from them.

Should be listed in the "simple pleasures" thread. Not much in music makes me happier than when I hear that oh so distinct sound of Harris' bass kick in.

I made the comment to a friend who is a big fan that that I preferred the music Maiden put out with Di'Anno, really no comparison as a frontman as Bruce is the best. He looked at me like I was crazy. Rime is my favorite track.

Ok....here are my top 5 favorite albums from the band.

1. Piece Of Mind - This is the one that started it all for me!

2. Powerslave - Absolute metal classic.

3. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - Incredible record and a great central theme throughout

4. Somewhere In Time - highly underrated and under appreciated Maiden record. So many great tunes on this one.

5. Number Of The Beast - Chock full of classics.

I love Brave New World and A Matter Of Life And Death as well. Dance Of Death is solid as is their last album.

Obviously I am all about Bruce.

I cannot pick a favorite Maiden song. There are so many great tunes.

The live version of Fear of the Dark is fantastic. The studio version is ok but the song is so much better live. Genius move on Maiden's part to roll that song out for the shows.

Powerslave is a cool song. Love that is sounds a little different.

NOTB is my favorite Maiden album. 22 Acacia Ave is probably my favorite song. It is today at least. Tough to choose it over NOTB, Run and Hallowed.

Revelations in its live form absolutely tops for me..

Bruce kills it on the vocals. Top 5 metal vocalists IMO
I'd give him #1 if forced to pick one. He is unique. The vibrato thing adds such a demented twist. Almost like some kind of voodoo thing. I always saw Layne Staley as biting heavily from Bruce. And live it seems that he's always been remarkably consistent. Something far easier said than done considering the speed of the music, the mouthfuls some of those lyrics are, and then the breathing required with the added degree of difficulty of him running around like the tazmanian devil. He's one of a kind and I can't think of anybody "better."

Crazy as it seems, lots of other bands obviously get a ton more press and recognition, but show me another band with their longevity of really quality music. I guess I can understand some folks can't deal with hard rock, but my god, just objectively who has their chops and longevity of career

3 guys from Canada rival Maiden's long term success and chops.

Rush

Maiden, Rush....these bands are rare indeed.

Agree. Dio is close imo.

Where Eagles dare or Icarus.

Pretty sure maiden fans love the underrated middle and later albums being called underrated here. I love that they continued putting out quality and fans contine to recognize. Seems rare.
