Is #1 the best place to draft? (1 Viewer)

I have the #1 pick in a ten team draft and love that I will be able to get LT.

My problem is that I have to wait 20 picks to get my next choice. Is LT that good that I should have no worries?

If two stud WRs are there should I select them on the way back figuring that LT will probably score double the amount of any other RB available?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes he's that good and yes to the WR question as long as they are both in your first tier of wideouts. If not, I'd look for my RB2 or even (dare I say it) Antonio Gates.

Easily. Every year the 1 spot is a large advantage, sans the Banzai Method.

1) You get who you want at RB

2) Everyone understands the importance of 2 RBs (See that effect in the 2nd round)...

3) ...thus in the 3rd round you get a super elite player at WR or QB for another advantage over most everyone else (unless they are short at RB#2)

At this point your scoring advantage cannot be overcome.

Owners being equal, only the injury gods can make it so. And that is just to catch up.

And if the injury gods hit one of the lower drafters early picks he has nothing.

Its a little different if PPR is invloved (switching the RB#2 to WR#1 in many cases) but still the same when it comes to the scoring and stats.

I drafted there in a 12 team re-draft...I've previously prefered the 5-7, or 10-12 slots, but I did like the results.

1.1 LT

2.12 C.Benson

3.1 A.Gates (top 6 WR's gone)

4.12 F.Taylor

5.1 Broke Chi D/ST (top 10 overall scorer last year, ridiculasly high scores for D's)

6.12 D.McNabb

Then I was able to grab ffrom there a very serviseable WR corps (start 3) of S.Moss, D.Branch, R.Brown, D.Henderson, T.Williamson (ok, someone has to catch the ball in Minny!)

All in all I picked up 3 #1's by position AND a serviceable WR corps...I liked it.

Personally I'm not a believer in 3rd rounder reversal and I think the 12 spot is quite nice. If I can walk away with Travis or McGahee I'll be satisfied. Even better though is getting the 1-5 spot, trading out, and walking away with the 1.12/2.1 and an extra pick.

After nearly ten years of using a draft in our league we went to an auction format several years ago.

One of the most compelling reasons: The team with the number one pick had made the playoffs every year with only one exception (the year Terrell Davis blew out his knee). So yes, having the number one pick - LT - is the best place to be.

We went with the auction because we didn't like luck (draft lottery) determining one of the playoff teams every year. If you are going to use a draft, the number one pick is the place to be.

I had the #1 overall in one of my leagues and traded down to the #2 spot in 10 team league. I figured I could live with SJax rather than Tomlinson (granted, a drop off, but it had to be worth my while).

Was able to move up one spot in Round 2 and managed to acquire an extra 4th rounder. Will probably use that pick for top TE (Gates if he's there) or solid #2 WR.

If you're hell bent on keeping #1, LDT won't disappoint. But if the right price comes along and you don't drop off that much from #1, might be worth exploring...

I agree with Vasco. #1 is the place to be... but #2 is pretty much an equally good place to be. I consider the two spots pretty much even, with an obvious slight advantage to LT, with an emphasis on the slight.

Besides, the quality of players that make it back to the 2/3 turn is really astounding, better than I think it has been in years past. At the 2/3 turn, you either get a quality #2 RB like Jones-Drew, James, or Cedric Benson, or else you get a stud WR like Harrison, Owens, Wayne, or Holt, or else you get Antonio Gates (who, in my humble opinion, should be going solidly in the 2nd round if the market reflected true value). I can't think of a better way to start a draft than Tomlinson or S-Jax paired with something like James/Gates or Jones-Drew/Owens.

The mere fact that you have two RBs who are a virtual lock for 275+ carries (James and Benson) waiting for you as your RB2 is just evil. Positively evil. Pair with Gates and enjoy the ride.

I agree with this line of thinking. I have the first pick and my strategy is to go Gates/Best available WR in a PPR just based on the amount of value. I also don't think the RBs available in 4.12 are that bad at all. Peterson or Ahman Green are not bad possibilities.
