Is anyone thinking if Carolina wants to win against Tampa (1 Viewer)

Seems to me right now they really need a playmaker - with Stevey Smith out.

I am getting a feeling they may try to work in D-Will into the game against Tampa and potentially run with him if he gets a hot hand.

Anyone else getting this feeling ??

I think J-Pep, K-Jen, and M-Ruck will control the line of scrimmage defensively and keep C-Will under control, and they also won't give C-Sim enough time to find J-Gall and M-Clay. As long as J-Del can keep the sticks moving for Carolina, they'll be fine.

That is exactly what they tried to do vs. Minnesota. Foster wasn't getting it done, and Williams started making plays so Fox started giving him the ball more in the second half. Problem is that Foster was still not completely eliminated from the equation in the second half of the Minnesota game despite being badly outplayed, and Fox has already committed to Foster as his starter this week.

I think Fox will go with the hot hand again because he needs someone to spark the offense and Carolina desperately needs a win. Williams MAY be that spark, but unfortunately that possibility hinges on how Foster performs since he is getting first crack at making a favorable impression. If Foster does not step up, then Williams will again get his chance and may not look back. I guess what I am trying to get at is that it is wishful thinking at this point but I would not rush to start Williams this week thinking he is going to take over this week.

Carolina should be 1-1 right now. They outplayed the Vikes last week, but that costly turnover removed any kind of momentum the team had and as result, they didn't deserve to win, Minnesota did. Their defense will keep them in games all season long. Even without Dan Morgan, one of the premier run defenders in the NFL, they managed to keep Chester Taylor in check, up until the 33-yd effort in OT. The question is, can the offense score enough to win?

Can DeAngelo be the savior? We'll see. His numbers in college sure look goood don't they? I think Jake Delhomme is having some mental struggles right now. Much like a baseball player finds himself in unwanted slumps over the course of the season. He'll break out of it, but a healthy Steve Smith sure would help.

Tampa Bay and Carolina have a combine 1 TD on the season so far. Will that trend continue on Sunday? Probably so. Whichever team doesn't make a late mistake will likely win the game.

Personally, I would love to see Fox make the switch to Williams and honestly think it needs to be done.

But:

The Charlotte Observer reports that Deshaun Foster will remain the Panthers' No. 1 RB despite the difference in production between Foster and backup RB DeAngelo Williams, according to head coach John Fox. "DeShaun Foster is still our starting tailback," Fox said. "We feel good about all our running backs, in particular DeShaun and DeAngelo. Really, each game takes on its own personality and (DeAngelo) was making some plays, but so was DeShaun."
In another thread on this subject, this was pointed out:
Fox started Davis over Foster, even though Davis could barely run and all could see Foster was clearly the better back. Fox is veteran loyal to a fault.
Carolina Running Game, Who is the #1

While I agree he is loyal to who he starts - I think that the Minny game proves he will go with the hot hand.

If Foster struggles early on - or the Carolina offence is just weak we may just see DeAngelo come off the bench to provide a spark

I personally see these quotes as an encouraging sign for DWill. Think about it: they were a unanimous preseason SB favorite, and have now lost to two teams that no one has even mentioned as SB contenders (cept maybe in ATL and Minny). He knows his offense last year was fairly one-dimensional and that dimension is currently sidelined. He's going against a team that has looked worse than they have and I'd imagine the pressure to beat on the Bucs when they're down and not go 0-3 will be huge.Of course Foster will start, but let's face it, as bad as the Bucs look against the run, well, they do look pretty damn bad. Forgot where I was going there.

Anyway, I think that Fox knows he needs a spark on offense and knows that thus far Foster is not it. That basically leaves DWill and Delhomme. I would think that if the running game doesn't break out of the gate, DWill will get his. I'd imaging that 15 carries is his floor after last game.

BTW, foster averaged 2.3 ypc against TB last year, and it's also worth noting that his only two really good games last year came against ATL. That's two of three really good games his entire career.
