Is BJGE still the rb to own in NE? (1 Viewer)

I don't understand the Patriots thinking when it come to their rb rotation. Woodhead and Faulk both play a valuable role, but neither one of them should be featured backs, yet the Patriots hand off to them as much as the law firm. Last night BJGE only got 8 touches and was absent for a large part of the game...Woodhead was in on 32 snaps while BJGE was only in on 17 snaps. Woodhead had 7 rushes to BJGE 8, Faulks 5 and Ridley's 5 rushes.

To me Woodhead and Faulk are third down backs. The Patriots running game seems to work better with BJGE getting the majority of touches. BJGE was a 1,000 yard/13 td rusher last year. Can a guy like Woodhead give you that type of production? Why is he getting more touches and snaps?

Am I missing something here?

It's all about the gameplan. It depends on who they're playing. One week it'll be Woodhead, the next it'll be BJGE, and then it'll be Faulk.Tough to predict unless you're Bill Belichick.

I think his toe is hindering him a good amount but he does not want to take time off because he knows he can lose his job to Ridley or someone else very easily

BJGE has been hampered with a toe injury for the past few weeks. That is part of the reason he has been used sparingly of late. NE has been running with a RBBC for a while now (and at this point they haven't had a ton of success no matter who's been getting the carries). LOL at the part about Woodhead getting so many carries. He had been an afterthought since Week One until last night. As others have said, don't expect a ton of consistency on who gets the ball and how well they do for fantasy purposes.

The difference before this week was that BGE was always 1/2 of the rotation. BGE with Woodhead, BGE with Ridley, etc. BGE is nearly always in inside the 10 on 1st or 2nd down. Last night was totally different.

The thing that gets me is that Woodhead and Faulk are most effective on third down or passing situations. When Woodhead is used on 1st and 2nd down as the featured runner he does next to nothing. It's simply not his skill set.On the other hand BJGE while far from a pro bowler is more than effective in those situations. Maybe he is hurt worse than we think?

Maybe a better question is "Would you rather have a Bellichek RB or a Shanny RB?"

The two are similar - at least as far as guessing which RB is the "one to own".

Me thinks once Vereen is healthy the 4 headed "BJGEWoodyRidleyVereen Monster" will drive FF owners even more insane than the "HeluHightowerTorrain Merry-Go-Round" already has.

I maybe in the minority here but I think he will surprise in a game or two down the stretch as NE plays some suspect teams and they should have the lead, giving BJGE the chance to get some garbage time points in the second half of games.

Agreed. I think when NE plays a tough team that they have to pass on to stay with, they'll always rely heavily on Faulk or Woody. In games they should dominate, I'd expect BJGE and maybe even Ridley to some degree to get their carries and goal line looks. A matchup against KC seems like a good play for him.

In my mind the Patriots are a more well rounded offense when they run more often. I thought the first game at home vs the Jets was their all around best performance of the season. Faulk and Woodhead are good at what they do, but they don't run the ball well on 1st and 2nd down unless it's a draw. I'd rather see BJGE pound the ball a little more.

Do Ridley or Vereen really have any value in dynasty even? Seems like New England's only sure options are Brady, Gronkowski and Welker. Outside of them I'm not sure I want anyone at all.

What is the status of Vereen? Any homers out there who can give some insight on him?

Good point. The Patriots need to find a better option as an outside WR other than Ocho and Branch. Ocho will not be back after this season and Branch and Brady have some rapport but it will be an interesting player to own on your fantasy team if the patriots could ever find that guy outside. They have not found him in the draft, and Moss' decline came quick and hard. It is something to keep an eye on though in dynasty as it could have some good value.

Woodhead averaged 5.4 ypc against the Jets. What was the problem again?
