Is Bush one of the best... (1 Viewer)

In 1 pt per reception leagues, i could see Bush being a MONSTER. It got me thinking, has there ever been a RB coming into the league that was as effective a pass catcher as Bush?

I would say there will never be a running back like Bush again. He is the best thing the NFL has ever seen. Just put him in the HOF now before he gets hurt. With all honesty he looks to be one of the better all around backs to come into the league in a long time. I think being compared to Marshall Faulk is a great compliment and hopefully he lives up to it caus eI'd like to see another talent like him again in the game for another 10 years.

No, no one has ever been as good as Bush, and no one ever will be.

:goodposting: Kijana Carter looked pretty darn good in college too.

This is getting out of hand.
Well thats an intelligent response. To answer the question, coming out of college, few feature backs have ever been rated as highly as Bush has as a reciever. Faulk is the only one offhand who I can think of who was regarded as being as good of a reciever. Ronnie Brown was generally regarded last year as the best recieving back since Faulk.

Id guess Bush lies somewhere between Faulk and Brown.

thanks for the serious response. I just couldn't remember many RBs that were utilized (and did as well) in the passing game as he did. In pt per reception leagues, i think he'll do very well, even if he's not the next LT, Faulk, Brown, Sayers...etc.

I thought McAllister was regarded pretty highly also (although nobody seems to have told the Saints).

Very true, I forgot about McAllister

Bush is the best recieving RB coming out of college I have ever seen and it really isn't close. USC would line him up wide just like a WR and he could read and break down the coverage, run routes with percision, crispness and come out of his breaks with tremendous ergancy all the while posessing the althetic abiliy to create speration, hit the 5th gear to run by coverage and uncoahcable instincts for going after the ball.... oh and lets not forget his soft hands.

I agree with Bloom, he is the 1st RB I can ever remember seeing that would not only be the class of the RB prospects, but the class of the WR prospects if he so decided to go that way.

Bush strictly as a WR would be in the top 5 WR in this class.

In this class? I wouldn't be shocked if some would rate him as the #1 WR. But then, I'm really not a fan of this class at the top. This guy seems to have been a decent receiver:

Heisman Trophy finalist as senior...only second player in college football history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in season and 5,000 yards for career...racked up 5,263 rushing yards during career at TCU, ranking sixth in NCAA Division I-A history...became just ninth player in I-A history to rush for more than 5,000 career yards...in final two seasons at TCU ran for combined 4,008 yards and led nation in rushing both years...was third player to lead the nation in rushing in back-to-back years...2,158 yards as senior were fourth-best in NCAA history and came after 1,850-yard junior season, which included Division I-A single-game record 406-yard performance against Texas-El Paso ...scored school-record 54 touchdowns ...was eighth-most in NCAA history...set school records for 100-yard rushing games (21), all purpose yards (6,337) and longest run from scrimmage (89t)...won Doak Walker Award as nation’s top running back in 2000...named Football News’ National Offensive Player of Year...first team All-America selection by Associated Press as senior and second team as junior...two-time Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of Year and three-time all-conference...chosen WAC Player of Week 11 times...also earned first team All-America honors from Football News, Sporting News, Walter Camp, American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association.

thats a good point, this is not the most impressive class. Lets just say Bush would grade out as a 1st rounder as a WR, since top 5 in this WR class isn't really all that.

That works.

Does anybody seem to recall that LT had more than 100 receptions a couple of years ago?

Seems to me he must have a good pair of hands.

Of course, nothing like Bush.

what separates backs like faulk, westbrook & bush...

its not just that they have pretty good hands... FOR A RB...

you can drop the qualifier...

you can use them like WRs, split them out like WRs, they run routes & get separation like WRs...

similar to bloom's comment, i have said before that faulk probably could have been a pro bowl WR if the rams had needed to play him there...

faulk, westbrook & bush are probably the best receiving RBs i've ever seen in the sense of having WR-like qualities...

* not talking about RBs like ronnie harmon that were good at catching screens & dump offs...

He also averaged less than 7.5 ypc. He is a very good reciever though, but the Chargers rarely use his ability in that aspect to its fullest extent.

He isnt one of the best because he has never caught a pass. I love Bush, I think he will be great. But he is not the best ever anything until he has played.

Maybe not playing means he hasn't proven it yet, but whether or not a guy has played has nothing to do with whether or not he possess the skill to.

exactly...larry fitzgerald has an identifiable, easily discernible skill... he has good hands (like chris carter, randy moss, chris chambers, chad johnson... nobody could watch them & come away with the impression they don't have incredible hands & aren't gifted receivers)...

its probably not an accident that as early as a prep, scouts graded him as probably the #1 WR in the nation...

than he played two years in college at PIT & quickly became the #1 WR prospect in the nation...

after two years with the cards, you can make a case that given his age he should be the #1 (certainly top 3-5) WR in dynasty leagues...

looking at fitz in college, when he was making diving, one-handed catches in the end zone with a defender draped on him... it LOOKED like, indeed, he had pretty good hands, & this skill would translate well to the pros.

bush has special hands... why would that ability dry up all of a sudden? he not only catches the ball... he makes it look easy... like a willie mays of receiving RBs...

* i haven't seen all of USCs games, though i live in LA... though we all had plenty of occassion to see bush last three seasons even if we mostly saw him in bowl games... they had a lot of exposure there during his tenure... how many times can you remember him DROPPING the ball in that time... none come immediately to mind for me...

Miss the point much guys?

Another RB who I think got split out a lot in his career was Eric Metcalf. He was never thought of as a feature RB but did rush the ball a fair amount early in his career. I'm not sure if he was regarded as a great receiving RB coming out of college or not. I'm just taking a stab at a potential name. I'm looking a ways back though.

Granted, Shaun Alexander may not have split out ala Bush/Faulk/Metcalf but he was another solid receiver at RB. In 1998 and 1999 at Alabama he had 51 catches for 708 yards (13.88 YPC) and 8 TD. He also was capable of 40+ catches in the NFL as seen from 2001-2003.

Another guy would be Mewelde Moore out of Tulane. He became only the 2nd player in NCAA history to top 4,000 rushing and 2,000 receiving and had 189 catches in his 44 game career.
