Is Chris Smith crazy? (1 Viewer)

His teams are completely unrealistic. I really enjoy the analysis and have read them all in an attempt to gain some insight into different ways of drafting, but the picks just aren't going to happen. Sometimes he has McGahee available at 3.08, has anyone been in a 12 man draft with fairly normal scoring where McGahee is there at 3.08??? In the latest article he did about drafting from 10, 11, and 12, he went with Chad Johnson and Steve Smith at 12/13, and then Colston and Thomas Jones at 36/37, and then Marshawn Lynch and Marion Barber III at 60/61. TJ is rarely available at 36 in most mocks that I have seen, but this isn't too bad of a stretch I guess. Lynch and Barber are long gone by the end of the 5th.

Sign me up for the 12th pick and give me CJ and Steve Smith if I can land TJ, Lynch, and Barber III later in the draft. NO WAY, BE REAL DUDE!!!

Hi All.

For this feature, all I did was draft for the one team that I was showcasing in each article. The rest of the draft was an automatic 'Mock' Draft using the Draft Dominator. I had nothing to do with any of the picks made other than the one I was breaking down.

I agree that some of the picks were questionable, but in real drafts the same things occur at times. The point of the article is more what options will be available to owners at certain draft slots than which player is picked where.

In years past, I actually took control of the entire draft and made the selections for all twelve teams. I may go back to that system in 2008 as I could force the draft to be very tight with very little value dropping.

What the Draft Dominator allowed me to do though was to mirror a 'real' draft and focus in on only one team. All my focus was on that one squad as it would be in a real draft and if players with value dropped to me at certain spots, so much the better. The fact is players like the before mentioned have been dropping at times this season and in most drafts there will be surprises sitting there in rounds three through six.

Thanks for your comments though. I hope some of the strategies and thought processes behind certain picks will help you to dominate your peers this season.

Here is my team after eight rounds. I drafted from the 5th position which isn't the easiest slot in the world.

I kept true to my advice in the articles and took the best player regardless of position in the first three rounds. Here is the team.

I'm pretty pleased with this team so far. It's very hard to take Gates in round three on one hand. But on the other hand I believe he will put up WR1 numbers and be far ahead of the curve at the tight end position. I believe he will be huge value this year and I have been taking him often in round three.

RB talent is pretty good considering I only took one in the first three rounds. Would have looked really strong in 2004 though LOL.

I think the point of articles like this is to stimulate your thinking, more than looking at the specific players. You have to adjust on the fly anyways based on who is taken....especially if someone really slides, and you have to totally change your strategy after taking the sliding player. If you know more, have different ideas, have multiple strategies, can adjust and even completely change your strategy based on how the draft falls, then you will do better. Now most of us doubt McGahee slides to mid round 3, but players often slide when there is no way they should have. If you can learn to use multiple strategies from any position, you will have more success.

Nothing is ever 100% etched in stone. Let these articles stimulate your thought process instead of worrying about the specifics. There are a lot of different strategies for any draft spot. You may have to change more than once depending on who falls, and if you can think by using more than one strategy, you will do better than the competition.
