Is Chung Benched? (1 Viewer)

Just found this.Wed, Dec 8Chung played in 26-of-65 of the Patriots' defensive snaps Monday against the Jets, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.Recommendation: Chung's reduced workload was a matchup-based decision and he could see more work in Week 14, but after seeing him record just two tackles this past Monday and five in Week 12, those who have been rolling with him as an IDP might want to seek an upgrade.(Rotowire.com)
nice work on that.pseven if I had a guess as to what the pats will do with chung, I'd have to also keep one eye on the weather 'cuz it sounds like it might be a game changer.

Rotoworld just posted this:Sunday's Bears-Patriots game at Solider Field is expected to feature high winds and sub-freezing temperatures.

Temperatures are forecast in the low 20s for Sunday morning, dropping into the teens later in the day. Winds are expected to in the 30-35 mph range. High winds are the one weather factor that concerns us when it comes to lineup decisions. It would be hard to bench a white-hot Tom Brady, but we'd suggest checking back Sunday morning for a report on the elements.

So, does this mean that the Bears are likely to run more, and Chung will be used less, as he was this past week?

I just seen that Chung missed practice on Thursday (attempting to find more recent info) I believe Chung at todays practice (still dunno why he missed Thur)

I also just seen this on Twitter "Patriots have signed DB Chevis Jackson, a third-round pick of the Falcons in '08. Belichick said there are some personnel moves TBA" Its possible that Wilhite another CB w/ a hip injury may be placed on IR?

I'm wondering whether he's become droppable in keeper/dynasty leagues. It looks like the Pats have no shortage of high-performing young guys in the secondary. I was planning to keep him on the cheap for next year, but am considering dropping him for someone who can actually help this year in the playoffs - considering I've also bee rolling with Ward and Branch, who have also become a bit unreliable. I don't want to hang onto him if it's going to be like this next year too.
I'm not certain what the future holds either, but I wouldn't drop Chung in a dynasty league unless I had to have his roster spot produce in a playoff matchup. I don't think James Sanders or Jarrad Page are likely to emerge as serious long term contenders to play an every-down in the box role. With Brandon Spikes playing well and the secondary suspect, the Patriots need better zone cover DBs more than run support safeties.Belichick still trusts Chung enough to use him in man coverage in the slot at times and in robber coverage over the middle. I don't think he's falling out of the Patriots long term plans.
Any change in expectations for Chung now that Spikes is suspended for the remainder of the regular season?

Good question! Also, looks like it's going to be very windy! What's weird is that Yahoo raised his projected score a fraction of a point yesterday! My only other choice is to pick up Abram Elam off waiver (for $5)!Eph

Whose idea was it to run a fake punt for the New England Patriots in their 28-21 playoff loss to the New York Jets?

It was safety Patrick Chung's(notes) ill-conceived plan.

Chung fumbled the snap and lost a yard, leading directly to a Mark Sanchez(notes) touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards(notes).

"We trust the decision Patrick makes," punter Zoltan Mesko(notes) said. "It just didn’t work out in that particular occasion. That’s why the coaches trust him to run it, and that's why they give him the green light, if he has it."

What did Bill Belichick think about the decision?

Not so much.

"We just made a bad mistake," Belichick said

Chung fell on/touched down Henne on his 10 yard scramble but Mayo got the solo tackle for missing Henne 5 yards earlier and then standing around when the play was finished?

I noticed that, too. Mayo wasn't in the same area code as Henne.I hope they fix that.
What made it even more hilarious was that it was replaying on the telecast 3 times from different angles and Mayo still got credit.

This guy is the new Bob Sanders
He has missed 2 games in his career to this point.
It was meant to be a little sarcastic and referenced last year's frustrations...take a scroll through the earlier posts in this thread and you'll get a glimpse.Last year when Chung had his knee injury it was a complete nightmare trying to interpret the Bellichick injury report reindeer games. Those who lived it know. He would be in practice all week, then d-oh! GTD Ruled Out at the last moment when you had no other options.

He has been announced as out for this week.
LATEST NEWS - September 23Patriots SS Pat Chung made a surprising return to practice Friday after undergoing thumb surgery this week. Sporting a cast on his right hand, Chung responded, "I am keeping it low" when asked if he has a shot to play this week. Backup safety Josh Barrett told the Boston Globe that he's "confident" Chung will end up playing against the Bills this week. Check back later in the day for an update.

Ugh, I have Chung and Landry. I guess if Chung is inactive, I'll make the switch to Landry and hope he plays. If Chung is active, I'll probably stick with him.

What's the board's consensus on how effective Chung will be this weekend (or if he will even play)? The qualifier below about it being the medical staff's decision seems like a pretty big red flag.

From Rotoworld:

Patriots SS Patrick Chung (thumb) is "preparing to play" against the Raiders this week.Chung was sorely missed in the loss at Buffalo last week. Although he's pushing to play, Chung concedes that the decision will ultimately fall on the Pats' medical staff. Chung did participate in a limited practice Wednesday, a positive sign. Sep 29 - 1:20 PM

This seems like it could turn into a repeat of last year's 3-4 weeks of indecision / ineffectiveness trying to guess his status after his knee injury.

i have the same question. With Chancellor out and Chung iffy, I may need to make a last second move.

Does anyone have anymore information on Chung and if he is playing?

Check this board later today, Jene will post Active/Inactive players just before the start of the early games

Patriots SS Patrick Chung (foot) has been ruled out for Week 14 against the Redskins.

Wow....wtf is goin on here ?

Out for the 5th straight week after the usual "questionable/limited practice" routine

I havnt really followed his production for awhile (I cut bait w/ injury concerns n playing time). I believe the Defense as a whole is better (less run-stoppping required) It also shouldnt take a rocket scientist to be aware of his position on field when throwing the ball.

Now I guess its possible that the Coach has altered Chungs playing style (less spt for injury?/less need) But imo hes still one of the best players on his defense. Id look at schedule (esp. after the bye) We might see somme good numbers soon...

I think the front seven has gotten so much better for NE that his tackle opportunities are going way down. The switch to more 4-3 looks has improved their defense as a whole.

Does anyone who follows that Patriots have any insight on this guy? I have owned him since he came into the league on one of my dynasty teams and he seems to have disappointed in the stats column for the last year and a half. Is he just an average at best safety for fantasy football?
