Bennett has been targeted more than almost any other receiver in the league so far (Holt, Harrison, Bennett & Chambers). I don't know why that would change going forward. TEN will play from behind and have to pass. The TE's aren't getting as many looks (15 total v 23 for Bennett). I think he has only 1 TD (not 2) so far, but YES, I think he's worth a roster spot in most leagues.
With TJ Housh out, I used Bennett to fill in and his garbage-time TD won me my week 2 matchup so YES, he's worth a roster spot .
He gets a lot of balls thrown his way and it looks like the Titans will be playing a lot of catchup. Garbage time TDs count as much as any others as do yards against soft prevent Ds.
Guys who have seen VY more than me make think differently, but I see him using outlet receivers (RB/TE) more and not throwing downfield to WRs as much. Toss in some bad decision making and bad timing with WRs to start and I think you can see a significant drop in Bennett's production. Still a viable WR3 at worst, just may not be the WR2 for a FF squad.
I just traded him for MJones earlier in the week trying to unload him "high" before this move was made to go to VY.
He is known for catching the deep ball here in Tennessee. With Vince Young starting today it will give Bennett a better chance for the deep pass and more opportunity to score.
Isn't this kind of an impossible question to answer? Is he worth a ROSTER SPOT? First of all, it depends on your roster size limits. In most leagues Bennett would be viewed as a 3rd/4th WR, so by that admission he's definitely worth a roster spot. Is he worth starting every week? That may be a better question. The promotion of Vince Young is a boom or bust situation for Bennett. If Young is Volekesque in his obsession w/ Bennett, then he may be Top 10. More than likely, there will be growing pains, so Bennett's value takes a hit w/ the recent news, IMO. But stashing him on your roster is a great idea given the potential reward, since none of us know Vince Young's tendencies or how he'll actually do at the pro level. Who knows, he may be better than Collins. It wouldn't take much! I definitelt think he's worth having on your roster, and right now he's playing as a solid #2 WR. That could (and probably will) change w/ Young in there, but frankly, I'm not sure how much. Who else is he gonna throw to?
Drew Bennett is in a contract year - so you know he isnt going to quit. I always love players that are playing for their livelihood.
He is definetly worth a roster spot - in fact, this is a good time to trade FOR him. I still believe he is undervalued for what most people think his production will be. Even though you don't have a good QB, if you throw enough balls at the guy, some of them are going to stick (and he is leading the league in targets). He also is a receiver that has blown up before. While someone will be thinking they are selling high, I think he could be setting up a repeat of 2 years ago (not sure, but I think that was the year him and Volek were on fire). He could easily have this production all year.
Meanwhile, like Driver in GB, Bennett and Tennessee are going to be coming from behind all year. This is where Fantasy veers from reality on how good a player really is. Opportunity = Value.
VY may have some rookie troubles, but seeing how lousy Kerry Collins was I don't think it hurts Bennett. In fact once they start clicking, it could be an upgrade. I've give that process a few weeks to start to really gel. So while I may bench Drew during the current watch and see mode, I certainly wouldn't drop him.
