Is hockey now the only sport without a major cheating scandal? (1 Viewer)

I would list steriods as the major baseball cheating scandal...but the whole back sox thing might be a little closer to home for you...what are you...150?

I'm 98. As a 10 year old I was crushed by the Black Sox scandal. I had a Shoeless Joe tobacco card that he'd autographed. I tore it up after the scandal. Probably should have saved it and sold it.Seriously, though, steriods touched on all aspects of the game. I went with a scandal that struck at the heart of the sport, the World Series.

Donaghy referreed NBA playoff games. There's been discussion that perhaps the "right" team didn't advance because of bad calls he made during playoff games.

And given the destruction of the evidence by the NFL office, there's now some thought that maybe there was a "smoking gun" related to a Patriot's SuperBowl win. Again, steroids have been used by NFL players, but the thought that there was cheating during the Super Bowl would be much, much more damaging.

I don't think that the NHL gambling ring impacted the Stanley Cup. As it stands, the hockey goons are the good guys, relatively speaking.

The gambling ring didn't have any effect on the games. It was just a guy (Tochett sp?) giving out some inside info.

Hockey is by far the cleanest sport when it comes steroids, scandals and cheating.

Other than the Danton thing a year or so ago there hasn't been anything more than the odd drunk driving charge or bar fight.

As long as you can overlook the occasional Marty McSorley/Todd Bertuzzi assault.

How is that steroids, scandals, or cheating?

A little assault doesn't bother me much when compared to dog fighting rings, rape, drug dealers, shooting up strip clubs, refs fixing games, players beating up fans and guys with 9 kids from 9 woman.

Hockey was the original beating up fans. I don't think the OP was refering to McSorley/Bertuzzi type incidents since cheap shots/fighting happens occasionally in every sport.

When was the last time it happened? As far as I can remember was the Bruins back in the 70's I think.

That doesn't count?

I would think a canceled season would be much more worse than some cheating...
Would baseball fans in small markets endure a lost season so that their teams could compete Yankees / Mets / Red Sox? It was necessary.

Hockey's not one of the 4 major's anymore. As much as I don't like to admit it, the "sport" of Nascar is probably #4 now.

When the fan fell onto Domi in the penalty box and Domi didn't even hit him?Spraying water on a fan != beating him up

Who really cares if it is considered a major sport? Does that mean I'm not allowed to enjoy it because Americans don't like it? Go ahead and watch your cars make left turns all day.

I'd endure multiple lost seasons in order to achieve a competitive balance in baseball. It's a mess. Hockey has fixed its labor problem. Sure, there may be a few years in the Versus wilderness, but it will be back on ESPN within a few years.

absolutely not, enjoy it!but not being a major sport kind of invalidates the question, which asks about major sports.

You are correct. I don't really give a crap about who broadcasts the game in the states... I'm just praying for the day that Cole/Neal retire.

Like it or not - hockey is considered a major sport by the majority of North American sports media.

 If you read the question correctly, I'm asking: "Is hockey now the only sport without a major cheating scandal?"

ps - you may dyslexic be.
