Is it time for the NFL to Take the Thanksgiving Day Game away from Det (1 Viewer)

I listen to Fat Mike Francesa in the afternoon, and he had a lot of callers pleading the NFL to take away the Thanksgiving game from Det and give to a more deserving team... a team that America and NFL fans rather see. I can't give you the exact number, but Det has been a joke ever since Barry Sanders left and they get spanked pretty much every Thanksgiving for the past 10 yrs.

Now Mike agrued that the NFL will never take away the Thanksgiving game from Det since its a tradition from the 30s; but come on... nothing can last forever, do people really want to Watch Det get beatdown one more yr... I don't. The only interest I have is how many times KVD is going to get to whoever is play QB for Det.

The team is terrible, the management and ownership is even worse... and I would plead w/ the NFL to step up and tell the Loins to either ship up soon or kiss the tradition goodbye.

And us as fans should attempt to boycott this mess... I know its hard to do; but us as fans should send a message.

and have a good Turkey Day

I'm ok with them keeping the game. But make the matchup more even. Like vs Washington U, or Michigan.

They wont take it away, and honestly I understand. But exactly how did the NFL think Detroit vs. Tennessee was going to be an attractive matchup? And what about Dallas vs. Seattle? Come on, why don't they put the Giants or Steelers instead?

This doesn't make any sense at all.Seattle and Tennessee were both playoff teams last year. The schedule is set in April.

No, no, and Hell No. I love this tradition. Unless they are playing my Steelers, I always root for Detroit on Turkey day.

The problem is that Detroit is just such a godawful team with no excitement. But there is a place for tradition, and in a way, one week a year, Detroit is REALLY America's team - usually in an underdog role, obviously. Every year I knew that was one time I would be guaranteed to see Barry Sanders... its the one team from another city (outside of my division) that I KNOW Ill watch every year at least once... keep it in Detroit.

Tradition don't feed the bulldog.

There's no reason why the greatest sports entertainment machine the world has ever known can't give us a better chance for a better game on this day, when all the eyes are watching.

And the infliction of that halftime craptavaganza on us should result in whoever thought that was a good idea to be fired immediately.

No one was complaining when Barry Sanders was with Detroit and they shouldn't complain now. Detroit has had the game for a long time and they will continue to have it because of all the Fords have done for the NFL over the years. If you want a good match-up on Turkey day you aren't gonna get it because this is a game that needs to be determined at the beginning of the season. How would anyone not think Seattle v Dallas wasn't gonna be a good one?* If you don't like it write your congressman because the game is staying in Detroit and should stay in Detroit.

*Oh, Steeler 43

 :lmao: :lmao: Wow that's so true it almost isn't funny.

Nonsense. Turkey day game in Detroit has nothing to do with how well the Lions are doing, and everything to do with tradition. You don't mess with tradition regardless of the length of the stinky streak.

They wont take it away, and honestly I understand. But exactly how did the NFL think Detroit vs. Tennessee was going to be an attractive matchup? And what about Dallas vs. Seattle? Come on, why don't they put the Giants or Steelers instead?
Because those 2 teams already play primetime games each and every week.

I don't care if the Lions were to go 5 whole years without winning a game, they should always be on Thanksgiving. The tradition is much more important than any other possible argument.

Exactly. And my mates and I who take Monday/Tuesday off work to watch Sunday & Monday Night Football over here have moaned whenever it's been the Steelers this year. They're sooooooooooooooo boring to watch (apart from Polamalu).I'm all for tradition.

I think we need another 100 of these stupid threads talking about pulling the thanksgiving game from the Lions. Sure pull the tradition from the Team that even brought you the thanksgiving game. You guys are dense.

YES>>.sick of looking at Detriot every year on Turkey Day..they should take two of the top ten from past year.
Like Seattle and Dallas? Next!
Detroit was the chit since Barry Sanders left..what year was that? get them off Turkey day!
I'm surprised you aren't supporting your argument with the fact their is a T-Day night game now. NFL picked Arizona and Philadelphia, two meh teams a year ago. Why not the Pats and Steelers?

agreed. I want to see different teams each week in the prime time games. I dont care if one or both of the teams arent very good. The best primetime game i have watched this year was the Denver/Cleveland game.

No. They need a GM and HC though.

Take it away from Dallas instead. I'm tired of watching criminals play.

Good point, that was a great game.

Exactly, one of the best primetime games I watched in recent memory was the Cards/49ers game in Mexico. It is good to watch something other than the Pats, Cowboys and Steelers from week to week.

Get over it..the way this country is going now..who wants to watch a team from Detroit on a Holiday with a 0-10 record..Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in nation..big three automakers wants taxpayers money...Kittens stink as always..the country rather have something enjoyable at least for a day instead of another so so day.

I think it's time for Detroit to man up, grow a pair and become a football team.

Edit: After next week's game against Minnesota, I mean. Not before.

Actually, it seems like it is something that you are going to have to get over. Lions will be on next year too.

Why is tradition so important? What if the tradition sucks?
It doesn't. Some people don't like the National Anthem played before sporting events which is also a tradition and some people don't like hot dogs at a baseball game. Just because the tradition sucks to you doesn't mean it does to me, or the majority of people who watch and attend games. :(

I doubt the Kittens be on Turkey day next year..The media wants to make money and the economy is bad..no doubt the NFL will chance this!

I love when the mental midgets show up, they're the only ones who make perennial moot discussions like this one entertaining.

Go ahead and bet the farm on that and then come back and tell us how that worked out for you. I'd guess very badly. The media doesn't determine what games are put on and the NFL is recession proof for the most part, especially as far as TV ratings are concerned. The T-Day game will be one of the highest rated games all year with or without Detroit. hth.

Outside of Lions fans ow many NFL fans do you think enjoy seeing Detroit play every Thanksgiving?

When they had Barry Sanders, all of them. So you really don't have a reasonable argument here because the Lions could be great in three years and everyone will love watching them. You don't pull them because they suck, this isn't college football and Rice playing.

Most people who have it on don't care, aren't paying much attention, and can't even name two players on both teams combined. The ratings won't change much with or without the Lions. People are doing their Thanksgiving thing. The NFL will keep the tradition. Doesn't matter what nerds like us would prefer. You can't guarantee a good game anyway, Seahawks-Cowboys was supposed to be good back when the schedule was set, and it's looking like just as big a blowout. The NFL has to get more casual tune-ins for these two games than any other, save the Super Bowl. The matchup is not important. What else are people gonna watch, Judge Joe Brown?

Things change in life..and thats something you have to put up with.

I prefer the tradition.

But if it went to other teams, it should be to honor the turkey.

I nominate the birds: Falcons, Eagles, Ravens, Seahawks, and Cardinals.

If they need a 6th team to play, the Jets are close enough.
