Is it time to dump Jerry Porter.. (1 Viewer)

Me personally...I had held onto him for this long hoping that someone would pay the price to pick him up.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen, so can he make his way back to the #2 role with the Raiders, or will they even give him that opportunity? The fans sure hate him.

Right now, he is taking up space on my bench where I would like to pick up a Chad Jackson or a Troy Brown in anticipation of the possibility of Branch leaving NE.

What are other Porter owner doing?

This isn't ACF, so don't be a dik.

This probably depends on what is available out there. If there is good talent I would strongly consider dropping him and moving on. If the available players can only get you 500yds-2td you may want to hold and wait.

I'm holding him to see if he can work his way out of the doghouse - I also have Gabriel in a couple of leagues and I'm watching to see what Curry does. Gabriel doesn't seem to fit as the 2nd WR, but Porter (and Curry) do.

Right now there's no one with the potential of Porter on the WW so I'm in wait and see mode.

Posting that by itself, without posting the identical quote KFFL also put up using Curry's name, is misleading and irresponsible. If people want to know the truth, it is that Curry began practice with the first team and others rotated in, including Porter. Shell also said not to read much into any of it, that nothing has been decided. Now, you want Couch Potato's opinion? It's not just a matter of being temporarily in the doghouse with Porter. He made it clear he doesn't want to be a part of the organization, and just keeping his mouth shut for a few weeks doesn't make his previous comments go away. Shell may be saying the right things publicly, but don't think for a second that this old-school coach, to whom personal loyalty is important, has forgotten so easily. Nor has Al Davis for that matter. The Raiders are being coy with the press over who is #2 because they are still in wait-and-see mode with Curry's achilles. They don't want to make a big deal out of committing to Curry and then have him unavailable by Sunday, but if he shows no ill effects from his injury and is good to go, he'll start. Porter will only be the #2 if Curry's achilles flares up again like Pinkston's did in Philly.

Al Davis really likes Porter and we all know when Al likes you, life is different. I think things are smoothing over a bit, BUT Porter is going to have to show his value on the field and earn his spot back. Porter is much more talented than Curry and better suited for the #2 spot. If I had to get in their head, they are not giving it back to Porter automatically because it would send the wrong message to him and to the rest of the players. Note that automatic meaning by default, Porter will be starting sooner than later and it will come out that he earned it.I'll say it again, the Raiders need to make him earn his salary and he's got talent to help them. If they were smart, they would use him as best they can and then maybe move or cut ties after the season.

You know what, I was about to rip him too for replacing Curry's name with Porter...however, I just went onto my league at mfl.com and now it does actually say Porter instead of Curry. Maybe it was a misprint yesterday?

I didn't "replace" Curry's name wiith Porter. As it turns out, there were nearly identical (if not identical) news bits yesterday evening that claimed that Curry and Porter were practicing with the first team. One said Curry, the other Porter. So that's where the confusion lies. That said, I agree with a number of posters that Porter will inevitably be the guy to start. I believe that for several reasons: 1. The Raiders have a lot of salary cap money locked up in Porter, they couldn't move him because of his cap hit, so now they better use him.2. In the best of situations (Porter with his head screwed on straight, Curry completely healthy), Porter is the optimal WR2 whereas Curry is the ideal WR3. Neither situation is the best it could be (Porter is a loon, Curry is still not 100%) so might as well go with Porter.3. If Ronald Curry were all the way back from his achilles tear, we would have heard about it by now. He's torn his achilles 3 times IIRC so there's a lot of caution here.4. Al Davis personally likes Porter, Davis is not getting any younger so he's going to want his best guys on the field, he's invested a lot of money in Porter, and Davis, um, just wants to win (baby). All that tells me Porter will be the #2WR. Oakland may screw around for a week or two, but Porter will be the guy - making the fact that he can be had in the late, late rounds (if not the WW) a veritable steal.

Actually, I think this is the time to "buy low" on Porter. Some of you know I am a huge supporter of Curry, but Porter should still hold more value. And I am of the belief that Whitted is not an option for the Raiders at this point with Porter and a healthy Curry available.

I think that Porter will end up being a HUGE steal in redrafts very late in drafts this year, and a cheap buy in dynasty that holds a good deal of upside.

The reason Porter was not traded was that the Raiders, iirc, were asking for for a TON and Porter would have had to give back the bonus. No wonder he was not traded.
