I know after week 1 it's to early to panic if a "stud" has a bad game, but how soon does panic set in for 0-2 owners with iffy quarterback situations?
Is it time to take a long, hard look at Pennington or Grossman or Frye or even Alex Smith over guys like Bulger, Delhomme and Hasselbeck?
With a relatively short season, fantasy football is a very time-sensitive game. Starting out 2 games back out of 13 or 14 games can be tough to come back from, especially if one of the losses is to a 2-0 owner in your division.
Do you guys think dumping Bulger or Delhomme or Hasselbeck for Pennington or Grossman is too much of a knee-jerk reaction for an 0-2 to take?
Here's my take....I would be getting concerned at this point if I had Bulger or Delhomme simply because Bulger isn't getting the Martz treatment this year and flinging the rock every other play. Delhomme appears to be an average quarterback who puts up good numbers when a certain receiver turns 15-yard gains into 60-yard TDs.
Hasselbeck will come around, in my opinion. They get some easy games and his receiving corps should bounce back pretty quickly. Jerramy "Stone Hands" Stevens will also be making a return soon, so I think it's safe to wait on dumping Hass.
As far as Grossman, Pennington, et al are concerned, I would drop Bulger for either of those. I think we're seeing the changing of the gurad in St. Louis and Bulger is merely a good #2 right now. Many drafted him as their #1 QB, so why not take a shot on a guy putting up #1 numbers? Unless you are stacked at QB and think he will come out of this, I say cut bait.
Delhomme is different. If Smith comes back healthy, I think Jake will rebound considerably and put up solid numbers. If this hammy lingers, Delhomme is going to continue to put up mediocre numbers and won't be worth starting except for bye week replacements.
Pennington is going to be playing from behind a lot this year, so I think he will be a good starter in most leagues. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes, and his receiving corps looks like they're out to prove a point this year. I like him going forward.
Grossman is a bit tricky. His receivers are excellent, but how much is going to throw this year? Jones looks good running the ball and their D will keep them ahead most games. If you have an extra roster spot, he'd definitely be worth stashing away, but I'd take a wait-and-see approach before I annointed him my #1 QB.
Any other thoughts?
