Is Joe Bryant among the Growing Legion of Patriot Haters? (1 Viewer)

Yes. 100%. All Pats fans are bandwagon fans. He cant even get all of the stereotypes right. Crab cakes are Baltimore pal.

Why would true Patriots fans shut up about IT? Our team is undefeated. Its a pretty good feeling. I dont live in Boston anymore but when I get to work every Monday (or Tuesday) morning, everyone in my office wants to talk to me about the Patritos and what does it feel like to root for a team that you know is going to win. These are Philly fans. They have had some of the most excrutiating losses a fan can go through in the past few years. They are not trashing the Patriots. They are envious. In a good way.
I never said anything about bandwagon fans, actually. And re: crab cakes, replace with "chowder" so we can move on.I don't care that Pats fans are glad their team is winning. That's the fun part of sports, celebrating victories and accomplishments and quality play. That's all fair game. Congrats on the great season. The things that have driven me crazy about Patriots fans this year are things like justifying Cameragate. "Everyone does it..." "It didn't affect the outcome..." Blah blah blah. IT'S AGAINST THE RULES. I'd fall over backwards if I heard an NE fan say, "I can't believe they did that. I never thought they'd be cheaters. I'm disappointed and hope that kind of thing doesn't represent the team I cheer for." It bothers me that the Patriots fans are taking it as a foregone conclusion that the team is going undefeated. In a best case scenario, they'll probably have to beat Jacksonville or San Diego, Indy, and Dallas, Green Bay, or Minnesota. (As an aside, I think that of everyone in the playoff picture, Minnesota presents some serious trouble for NE. What would AP do to that weak run D?). It bothers me that NE fans so easily forgot that less then 12 months ago, your team and your genius coach got outplayed and outcoached in Indy.

On and on, it never ends. I have no problem with the Patriots. I'll say again: they are amazing to watch and play great football. It's the fans, pal. Deal.
So Moss jersey, drinking Sam Adams and eating Chowdah dont insinuate bandwagon fans? OK.Its against the rules. I said at the time that I thought Belichick should have been suspended 4 games. What else did you want the league or Patriots fans to do? I, like many non-Pats fan analysts and former players and coaches, feel it was a minor infraction but yes it is against the rules.

When your team gets this far and has been this dominant, you start to see the end game and feel that it can happen. The Pats fans I talk to dont think it is a foregone conclusion but are pretty confident that they will run the regular season. I fall into that category. I think the Pats have always matched up well with the Steelers and had their number to a degree. I am very confident of a win this Sunday. I dont think the Jets or Dolphins pose much of a threat and the Giants seem to be more inclined to rest starters the last game than the Patriots would.

The Playoffs will not be a walkover. Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and SD all pose threats.

I think the OP has a fine point. Many of us, especially me, have been way too hard on the New England Patriots, and it's NOT RIGHT and NOT FAIR.I'm sorry.I'm sorry I called Randy Moss a whiny scumbag who can't handle physical play; I apologize for hoping he gets slammed around this Sunday.I'm sorry I suggested that Tom Brady was an arrogant jerk.I feel bad about my comments to the effect that Bill Bellichick is a cheating, evil ******* who deserves to lose every game he coaches. And I'm especially sorry I called out the Patriot fans on this website for being insecure about any and all criticism of their team. I have no idea how I could have reached such a conclusion. If I promise not to hate any more, will you guys be nice to me?
you forgot "Im sorry that I called them a bunch of unforgiveable thieves because they stole away my belove 'Niners' 1st round draft pick next year". just stickin' it to ya, T. good luck to your Steelers this weekend. Should be a great game. And say hi Joe and Jerry for me.

See, you and I can talk constructively. That guy at the end of the bar drinking the Sammy? He's annoying...

I wish there was an emoticon for pissing into a wind storm because it would perfectly represent this thread.

Honestly joelib77, complaining that the Pats are criticized too much in a satirical weekly write-up?! This is what you spent your time and emotional energy getting riled about? For therapy, try reading Peter King's Monday Morning journalistic fellatio of the Pats organization on that 5-lettered website some time...it should soothe your anger a bit.

Joe Bryant does a great job with this site. Him and his staff spends more time than any mere mortals should trying to foist my lame team into the FF playoffs every year. The whole concept of FF is for relaxation and entertainment. Combing through the millions of media outlets and writers relentless works of praise and adulation for the New England organization to find the one segment or one writer that you feel is too biased or unfair to the Pats borders on a sociopathic need for love and acceptance.

In other words...the rest of us enjoy Random Shots complete with the gentle barbs at your beloved Patriot's so if it gives you such a emotional wedgie, just skip over it next week.

...and on a personal note, try some decaf.

I have to disagree with your analysis of this weeks game. I think that the Steelers pose a very good threat this weekend against the Patriots. They have a solid running game behind Willie Parker, and the Patriots Defense has not really stopped the run the last two weeks. I also think that with Ward healthy and with Miller and Holmes they have some solid receivers. The Pittsburg defense is as good as Baltimore and they do not cry as much. This is going to be as close a game as the Baltimore game. If the Patriots do get by the Steelers this week they will run the table. I see this game being decided in the last two minutues of the game. That is my take on it.

This thread is a testament to the fairness and love in Joe Bryant's heart. There are places in the world, like Iran, where you cannot start threads like this. I appreciate you for starting this thread and opening up your ideas to criticism. Joe is a great fellow and I doubt he holds much hate or bias in his heart for much, football included. Thank you for sharing your feelings on this subject and I hope everyone in here can argue constructively, without malice, and have a wonderful Friday.

Every team on top has other teams trying to knock them off the top. Thats how it works and the same goes for the fans. There are always bandwagon fans - except maybe with the Spurs - but whatever. I personally think the pats fans are rediculous, but only the loud ones really. And that's ok. They are allowed to be a pain in the a** just as much as I am. I think that makes it fun to be a fan. It just seems like with the pats the "experts" come out of the woodwork and they have the thinnest skin on the planet. If you guys would just lighten up and enjoy your team and take the abuse. Because it's not going to stop. It's like MJ getting booed at the Garden, every single person in those seats wanted to see him in a Knicks uniform. But they still booed...

The Patriots fans wouldnt be so "insufferable" if the team wasnt so friggin' good. wink1.gif
That's because they'd all be cheering for someone else... :hifive:
Your priceless
You + Are = You're:sorrypetpeeveofmine:
thank you
Guys, they are trying their best. Let's try not to judge them publicly. A discreet p-mail would certainly do the trick. Who knows, you might end up with a new friend in the end! LOL, that rhimed!Have a GREAT weekend fellas!!!

Why are some Patriots fans so sensitive? Why do you care whether someone hates your team? Hell, if Cowboy fans felt this way, they would have jumped from the ledge in the 70s.
I appreciate the "some". There are people (too large of a segment, imo) who would have felt the need to have left out the "some".

They had one consecutive week of bad run D. They just lost on OLB, Colvin. Theyll figure it out. But against Philly, which would have been the 1st of those "two weeks" you speak of, they gave up 55 yds on 19 rushes and Philly was in the game all night, so it wasnt like they werent able to or werent trying. Westbrook had 17 carries for 52 yds. New England doesnt get manhandled 2 weeks in a row in the running game. That's my take.

There's a palpably weird insecurity/persecution complex vibe in some Patriot fan posts.

Some = a lot.
Honestly, I just think that sports may be a bigger part of the New England culture than it is in the rest of the country. I think New England sports fans are among the most devoted I've ever seen, and they seem to take the losses harder than anything. As a result of this, the winning needs to have something "special" about it -- for instance, in 2001 we heard so much about "best TEAM" because just being the champion wasn't enough -- there had to be something extra to make it truly meaningful. In 2003, it was the "find a way to win against 10+ win teams and league MVPs" argument. In 2004, it was "shut down the best offense and scored on the best defense in the playoffs" argument.

I think to a large degree this makes sense, particularly in football where the Patriots were typically the also-ran in their division and baseball where the Red Sox were always little brother to the Yankees. I can completely see where these fans are coming from.

That said ... the tide has turned. 3 Super Bowls and 2 World Series championships. Everyone knows the Patriots and Red Sox are great and they're not flying under the radar. They're getting their due, and the fans are getting their wins. I think in a few years if the teams fall off a bit, the fans may be able to see from a larger perspective and appreciate their teams for what they are rather than seeking "validation".

Yes, these are generalizations, but maybe there's a hint of truth? And just to be clear, these are not judgements, merely observations. A lot of this is stream of consciousness stuff, so while I'm sure a NE fan out there will take a statement I made and write a long response to it about how stupid I am, these are just thoughts floating in my head and nothing personal.

(1) By virtue of being one of the better teams ever, the Patriots will get dumped on

(2) By virtue of their actions and more importantly their attitude (Top down with the HC being the top) toward other teams, other coaches, the fans and the media, to be honest, they deserve quite a bit of it. This is not a team that is worth rooting for outside of their exceptional ability on the field. I can appreciate their talent ability and production, but not too much else garners respect.

My bad. LOVED the "can barely beat High School Musical" comment btw. Now THAT'S funny. Take note Joe B.

Quick, someone PM Joe and make sure he's allright!Wow, I never knew how whiny Pats fans were till this year. You'd think having a winning team would make them happy...
Now if only we could get them all to leave the message board too.
A perfect example of generalization.

I guess you just don't realize that it's only SOME of the Pats fans that have a problem.

That's weird, I was thinking the same thing. Have a nice weekend!

Joe pokes the needle every once in a while, but imo its a good thing. Ive felt the sting on a few occasions, but his general integrity and objectivity imo is exceptional and for the most part unquestioned. He runs a clean show, a tight ship, and is rightfully respected. We Pats fans need to respect his opinions about New England, whether shining or dull. New England's run right now is fueling interest in football to a peak not often seen. Its bringing out passionate, fascinating, compelling and rare conversation . Questions about many things ranging from the ethics involved in scoring and running it on teams, to an aggressive 'quest' to gain competitive advantages and how far that envelope should be pushed, to firing away for records seemingly out of reach. To the relevant pursuit of PERFECTION. And numerous others. And thats also a good thing. Joe represents a stable, honest, confident, trusted opinion on anything about New England, imo. He's not a fan. I am. Our opinions on the subject matter will no doubt collide and repel. But when differing viewpoints meet, and there is a willingness to accept honest counters to one's own beliefs, and accept criticism, the results are typically positive. Gotta be willing to accept and handle criticism, even it is seems sometimes mistimed. Everything Joe says about the Patriots from a non-fan perspective I appreciate. So, just take it on the chin big guy. Its only a light jab. Not a knockout punch. If we havent been knocked out by now, we never will be. So, rock on Pats! And thanks for the great site, Joe.
As a Patriots fan, how can you not find all of these people incredibly annoying and pittiful? Seriously. Everyone's attention has turned away from enjoying their own team and towards hating the Patriots. It's really incredibly obnoxious.
Now that's one hell of a leap you've made. Maybe I have a different Shark Pool than you, but I surely do see more threads than "...hating the Patriots" ones.

They were pretty devoted to the Patriots in the early 90s, weren't they?

Thanks twitch and other pats fans that have chimed in.Random Shots is pretty tame but even with that, the very nature of it means that I'm going to take a "jab" at lots of teams / fans. Which is a fine line sometimes. I was pleased to hear the way twitch described it as that's exactly what I'm going for. It's a blurry line sometimes between taking a jab and being a jerk crossing over to just being mean.I think part of my personality in doing some of this stuff too is that I try to lean more toward jabbing at the guys on top. For instance, I used to needle Brian Billick a pretty good bit. Now I don't. I wrote earlier in the year that it was time to consider taking away Joe Gibbs' right to call a timeout and that it was sort of like taking the keys from your grandfather. That might have been funny when he called a dumb timeout that didn't cost much. When he called one in the Buffalo game, that's off limits. So by definition, I find myself needling the Pats more this year than normal. Obviously, they're a fantastic team. Brady is one of the best ever and I've said many times that Belichick is as much a lock for the Hall of Fame as any person ever. What he's done there is unreal. But that's boring and doesn't really make anyone want to read. (And yes, I realize many feel Random Shots is already boring and no one wants to read it now. Point taken.)But every year I have folks that leave over something I say. That's just reality. So to the original poster - Sorry we've become something different than you want in your eyes. And thanks for the business the last 5 years. Much appreciated.Last year it was the guy that was mad I said the Coors ads sucked. Of course he worked for Coors. I don't go around trying to stir people up as we have enough of that in society already. But I also think if you're not getting at least some "you suck" mail, you're probably taking the safe road too much.J
 Any Pats fan who doesn't acknowledge that (a) there is plenty to dislike about this current Pats team/organization (Belichick's overall demeanor/attitude, spygate, Harrison's HGH, Randy Moss's sudden "reemergence" after dogging it in Oakland, etc...) and (b) there is a large contingent of our own fans that are downright embarrassing is simply sticking their head in the sand. Between their continued success combined with organizational arrogance and this "win at all costs" mentality, the Pats are an easy target. Be honest. All that said, I'm thoroughly enjoying this season as a Pats fan.

Week 9 Addai had 26 carrues for 112 yards and added 5 catches for 114 yards.Week 10 Bye week

Week 11 they played Buffalo without Lynch.

Week 12 Westbrook had 17 carries for 52 yards and a TD and also an additional 7 receptions for 40 yards through the air to be exact. As we all know the Eagles like to use screens and short outs to get Westbrook in the open. So he had 92 yards on 24 carries for a 3.8 YPC.

Week 13 McGahee had 30 carries for 138 yards and added 4 catches for 21 yards.

Looking at the stats you could say that the Patriots defense has been having a hard time stopping the run.

I think that we all need to take a step back and remember that it's Christmas time, and Christmas time is a time of giving.

But we are supposed to be giving wonderful gifts and giving of ourselves. We shouldn't be giving a hard time to other people.

Joe Bryant has expressed a particular opinion about the Patriots and perhaps that was somewhat unfair. But instead of making two wrongs and giving Joe a hard time, the better response would have been to remind Joe how lucky he is to be blessed in so many ways. This would have softened his heart and perhaps lead him to reconsider his unfavorable opinion.

But instead of making two wrongs and giving Joe a hard time, the better response would have been to remind Joe how lucky he is to be blessed in so many ways. This would have softened his heart and perhaps lead him to reconsider his unfavorable opinion.
 GBGD!What makes this world so great is that people have different opinions and that makes life fun and interesting. Wow, what a great time to be alive!

Why is every thread about the ###### Patriots? That's why I'm sick and tired of their fans.
Because the Red Sox and Yankees are in the offseason?

Our company had our Christmas party at Hienz field yesterday, and we got the full stadium tour, I stood in front of the Steeler emblem on the floor in their locker room and said a little prayer that went like this....

God, please let the Steelers kill the Pats on Sunday. AMEN.

Wow, great Friday thread! :lmao:

Feel bad for the OP though...wow...and my wife thinks I have anger issues! :lmao:

For me, its simple. Because we've felt it all year. Its been 3 months of being hammered like a friggin' nail, and I guess Ive either become numb to it, accepted it, or just appreciate the notion that its only because our team is SO FRIGGIN' GOOD that the hating even exists. Dont sweat it. Try and be more tolerant. Believe me, I feel your frustration. Think about how sweet the juices of glory will taste in the end. Patience, young grasshopper. These guys have won 21 in a row before. What's another measely 7?? :lmao: (5 of those will be at home, btw)
Let's clarify: No one hates the Patriots because they are good. Just like no one hates the Red Sox because they won the World Series. It's the insufferable fans that are worth the ire. There is nothing better then watching GREAT football being played, regardless of the team involved. The Pats play GREAT football. And there's nothing worse then watching that great football in a bar with some toolbox wearing a brand new Randy Moss jersey, drinking Sam Adams, eating crab cake clam chowder , and talking about how awesome the team is and that everyone hates them because their so good, never realizing that the problem is him and his buddies who won't shut up about it.
corrected.
Awesome.I love this thread.

And FWIW -- I DO hate the Pats cause they're too good and Brady is too pretty.

:bitterJetsfan:

Seriously tho - Can't we all just sit back and watch a great season? Or are we all just THAT sensitive at this point?
