FWIW, Tom Brady is a year older than he was last year, and he's already listed on the injury report this season (shoulder), but I still think he'll do better in 2009 than he did in 2008.I know it's a completely silly point, but yeah, guys who were more injured one year often do better if they are less injured the next year.

And despite those three poor games, he still ran for 1,110 yards, and scored 12 total TDs. Like has been said, people expecting the LT of old and the LT numbers of old are simply not being realistic. He is not that player anymore. But he is more than capable of putting up similar numbers to last year's, if he stays relatively healthy.

I love Sproles, but he had a horrible night running the ball against the Raiders. LT fared better. There really wasn't much blocking there for either one, though.

exactly. When the blocking breaks down, you need that extra gear to get away from the rush, get outside etc.I owned LT for years in a keeper league. Maybe my judgement is clouded by how bad I expected the raiders D Line to be. I own sproles in a keeper league now (with 8th round value next year). I wouldn't take LT straight up for him right now.

A lot of people thought the Browns would take Tomlinson at #3. The Chargers were lucky he slipped past them.(The Chargers took Brees with their own second-round pick, not a pick they got from the Falcons.)

LT produces 55 yards on 13 carries and Sproles produces 23 yards on 9 carries but LT is done?

Perhaps the Raiders run defense was pretty solid on Monday night.

I watched it.Running the football LT was better.

Sproles longest run was for a whole 7 yards on 3rd and 20 on a draw.

Sproles looked great on returns and I think too many people are basing their thoughts on him on his return game not his game running the football.

Now if all the dissenting people could come to this same rational then we could quit all this Tom Foolery! Sproles looked horrible in the running game...PERIOD! LT actually made a couple decent plays but the Raiders were all over them in this game. The only thing Sproles looked good in was the return game and as a receiver in the final drive.

The screens/passing game that you mention is largely why I value sproles over LT right now. With Jackson and gates stretching the field, those dump offs to sproles will likely be there all

It's an afternoon game, so maybe this won't work if you have to choose your starters early. But I'd check the inactive list. If Buster Davis is active, I think Sproles will be the featured runner. If Davis is inactive, I think Bennett will get as many touches as Sproles or more.Norv doesn't want Sproles to be the kick/punt returner and the featured back in the same game. That's too much for him. If Buster Davis is active, it's because they'll use him as the kick/punt returner so Sproles can get more work in the offense.If I had to guess right now, I'd say (if Tomlinson is out) that Sproles will be the kick-punt returner and split the RB load with Bennett pretty evenly.

this kind of #### is why I love this place, and Maurille especially. I mean he has won me easily 1000's of dollars over the course of my life with his Fool Proof Roulette betting System. Easily a couple hundred bucks every time I was in Vegas.

The Denver defense was historically bad, yes. But the AFC West was on the line that game. I agree that playing Denver had almost everything to do with both those backs having such good production though.

He didn't miss a game last year. He was pulled from a tight game last week and now he is in a boot with a chance he will not play at all this week.

it's a 16 game season. I make it a point to never play a RB vs the Ravens unless my others are pretty much worthless. They just kill RB's. At the same time that pass rush might lead to dump offs for sproles. if Dodds os that high on him, I have to think that is what he's thinking.

I know you are not asking for advice, but no way would I do the second one. I am not that high on Turner, but he should still be solid, and I am not high on the Cardinals offense as a whole this year, plus I am very high on Jennings.

I received an "I'm thinking about it" note on my LT-for-DeAngelo proposal.On one of my LT-for-Portis proposals, I was countered with Portis/Welker/Jaguars for LT/L.Evans/Bears. I don't really care about Jags-Bears, but I'm not willing to give up Welker for Lee Evans as part of the deal, so I'll counter back with something else.

On the other LT-for-Portis proposal, I haven't heard anything back yet.

I don't think rushing for 3 TD's in week 17 helped a lot of fantasy owners. He was terrible most of the season last year, by then it was too late for redemption in the eyes of the guys that drafted him 1st or 2nd overall. And now he's starting this season just like last: looks sluggish and already has an injury that everyone will use to excuse the terrible games he's going to have over the next month or two. Still a viable #2 RB in fantasy football, but I's sorry for everyone that picked him in the 1st round.

I agree. I think its a case where maybe we should think about grabbing the Oakland defense.I was extremely impressed with that defense on many levels. I looked at the way LT Ran and I saw that he ran to the hole, and saw it was plugged then bumped it outside to save the play on a regular basis. LT played well when you consider the holes were plugged more often than not. then when he found the holes he did the trademark stiff arm and was hard to bring down.LT is fine, but I'm having durability concerns. I'm keeping LT on my roster for now. No point in selling when the value is low.

I think this is a good point. The raiders D looked awesome (especially with seymour in the middle). It had the look of a top 10 like D, not a 20-25 rank D like we thought.That might have a lot to do with cutting Meangelo Hall and his money. That guy is an absolute cancer on your team and your cap. Oh and he sucks (relative to who is and what he thinks he can do)

I agree with this. I would expect slightly more carries for Bennett, and more receptions for Sproles. I will add that Bennett was outstanding in the preseason, showing quickness and agility that I didn't think he had anymore. His legs have tread left due to lack of use over the years, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him have a good day given the opportunity. Very sneaky play if LT is inactive and you're filling a hole at RB2 or flex.

ironically to my madden analogies, in all the years I have restored the roar (lions franchise) I often end up signing Michael Bennett, as he was the fastest free agent/option available (depending on the year)

I think he is going to be dealing with injuries for most of the season and when he is not he will be very average. In the end ... if healthy enough he will average about 3.6 have 800-900 rushing yds 8 tds and 100-200 Receiving 0-1 tds

Other than the One line asserters, who has said LT is DONE. This is a comparative analysis of his worth as it relates to Him and Sproles competing for time and opportunity.As I said above LT is better than about half the starting backs in the league. I just don't think he is better than sproles, from the perspective of the San Diego Coach/OC (maximizing overall production on the office). And once again, I think this is largely due to the specific make up of that team. With Rivers arm, and Vjax/gates stretching the field, the D is in a ctach 22. Do you let gates Roam 15 yards deep, or do you leave the soft underbelly open (assuming you still are trying to pass rush). Since bend but dont break is better than trying to CB's tackle gates 20 yards down the seam.With LT in, you obviously cover Gates. maybe even 2x cover. With Sproles in (as the end of the raider game illustrated) that decision becomes harded due to the additional options you have out of the backfield.

yeah ankles can be taped etc. Toes, plantar facias etc are generally a lot worse to deal with. But if you had the luxury of sproles (and apparently a game michael bennett) why would you rush him back. As any of the "getting-older-guys" on this board can attest, one of the biggest pains in the ### of aging, is how much longer #### just lingers/takes to heal than it used to. Whether its a hangover, or a ankle sprain (I have chronically bad ankles that would routinely sprain on their own seemingly after years of basketball/ultimate ankle sprains/twists-- note YOGA/fish oil/chondrotin all help immensely) it just takes longer than it used too. I have to imagine that this is magnified on the NFL level.

I wouldn't take the second, but I would take the first. It really depends on your receiver depth.

No kidding - it's like last year all over again. I can't believe how bad they are at closing out on 3rd downs - and not just 3rd and shorts, ANY 3rd downs. Lack of pass rush will do that to you.

merriman didnt look 100% percent at all. it's early and one game, hard to get a pass rush when all the other team does is run the ball and are not afraid to punt. This week I think Flacco and the Balt running game might have a very good week

What do you think is a realistic expectation for LT the rest of this season qimqam?

I think he is going to be dealing with injuries for most of the season and when he is not he will be very average. In the end ... if healthy enough he will average about 3.6 have 800-900 rushing yds 8 tds and 100-200 Receiving 0-1 tds

So you think his high end production is 1100 yards and 9 TDs.And how is that different from what you perceived expectations were before the season started?
