My wife has complained that she does not think it is fair she has to cook every meal. So I cooked some ham sandwiches and served with Lays chips for dinner last night. She says that is not cooking because it is not hard. As if cooking rice for every meal is hard.

I think you may be attempting to influence the outcome.

I'd say you made dinner, but did not cook dinner. Opening a bag of chips didn't really push it the extra mile.

If the sandwich needs to be grilled, then it can be considered cooking. Otherwise, it's simply preparing food.

cook[ kook ]

verb (used with object)

1. to prepare (food) by the use of heat, as by boiling, baking, or roasting.

2. to subject (anything) to the application of heat.

And it looks like I've been pronouncing kook wrong every time I read one of Todd's posts.

FTR, I didn't answer the poll, because to me, sandwich implies a couple pieces of bread with some stuff in between. Cooking implies cooking something. The two aren't mutually exclusive, but one doesn't exactly imply the other, either. You're cooking if you do up a cheesesteak or a French dip or something, but not if you slap some cold cuts on Wonder bread.

Thanks he almost got me

I may be arguing semantics, but this is my stance. If you cook regularly, making sandwiches is fine and "counts". If she is riding you to help out with the cooking and you provide sandwiches, that's a fail IMO.

Unless the goal is to get her to throw her hands up in disgust and vow to do it herself forever after.

I'da just brought home takeout.

I assume the fact that he started this thread, his goal wasn't to get her mad. He honestly seems to think his effort was legit.

Unless that's what he wants us to think, while he secretly harbors a far more nefarious agenda..

This kind of falls into the same category as "what is sex"?

Making a sandwich is to cooking, what kissing is to sex.

Since you heated up the ham, that would be the same as over the cloths groping.

I agree if all you are getting is rice. But have you ever heard anyone say "cook a sandwich"?
