Is Matt Prater the Nick Folk of 2008? (1 Viewer)

Both rookie kickers with an offense that looks ready to explode with a ton of XP and FG chances?

Due to Ike, I was granted an extra waivers selection this last week. Picked up Prater for Kris Brown. Pretty stoked about that windfall.

(Not that that makes me happy about Ike. )

I believe two things. First, I believe that Jason Elam should be the #1 fantasy kicker taken every year due to his inhuman consistency. Second, I believe that fantasy kickers are almost wholly a product of the offense they play in rather than a product of their own personal talent. As a result, feel free to replace "Jason Elam" with "Matt Prater".

I doubt it'll quite catch on like the RB counterpart has, but as far as I'm concerned, he's not Matt Prater... he's "PK Denver"

:lmao:

Standard scoring = 11, 7, 10. More points if your league rewards long field goals (1 50+ yarder). Is 5 of 5 on FG and 13 of 13 on PAT. I may actually keep him rostered during my bye and do a drop/add for a kicker week 8 so I don't lose him. Points a plenty on the horizon after the bye.

Drafted him/dropped him/picked him back up again.

:football:

Unlike the TEN Defense which picked up by another team right after i dropped them.

I agree with the team making the kicker but not about the Jason Elam comparison. He's Gostowski of last season. Great in that he's going to give you consistent points every week because the offense is explosive but because the offense is so good they will convert their possessions into TD's more than most teams which limits his FG attempts.

I like Longwell over him. Good running offense that will move the ball but struggle in the redzone. A good defense to add to it should equal many field goal opportunities....

If only Prater were actually a rookie. He was an undrafted FA cut by Detroit in 2006 and cut by Atlanta in 2007.
If Detroit cut him and Denver has him, he's got to be a stud. :towelwave:

I picked Prater in the last round of three different leagues, based on this theory .... Jason Elam was such a tremendous kicker (and still is), that I WANT the kicker the Broncos kept in order to cut Elam.Didn't hurt that Prater was hitting 67-69-yd. FGs in pre-season scrimmages.Do not underestimate the value of getting 10 points from your kicker every week, when the opposing team is happy to get 4-6.
