Is Matthew Stafford a franchise QB? (1 Viewer)

422 yards, 5 TDs, and tough as nails
 Amazing game, man. :own3d:
Keep in mind, it was against Cleveland.
and? he is the first QB in NFL HISTORY to put up the numbers he did today...it doesn't matter who it was against...that's the best rookie QB performance in NFL HISTORY.
Marc Bulger put up 453 yards, 4 TDs and 0 INTs in a win against SD as a rookie.
Bulger's numbers probably were better, but it wasn't 5 TD's.

Just saw that on Sportscenter.........I'm still taken aback by the moxie Stafford showed on that final sequence. Outside looking in that took some serious onions, listening to more details I'm even more impressed.

I'm sure you saw the postgame comments MSUlions posted; you can't put a number on what that means to a team. That one ignore-the-pain-just-win-the-game play earned him an incredible amount of respect and admiration from his HC and his teammates.Talent + leadership.

Yes, lots of props to Stafford. Happy for the Lions that they finally found a QB. Now they need help on both the OL and DL.

:suds: and just so it isn't lost in the game thread.....The Raiola comments are most telling.....no offense to Mr. Winslow Jr., but Stafford's a ####### Warrior! Listening to the post game on the radio...couple of comments on Stafford:From Schwartz: We had four doctors trying to make him sit down and he just bullrushed through them to go out there for the last play...but I think he's got a serious shoulder so we'll see"From C Raiola: I don't think you can understand how hurt he was...I was trying to pick him up to tell him we got PI in the endzone and he couldn't talk...he was gasping for breath from the pain and just couldn't speak.

This was the Browns..who are on the same level as the Lions. Lets keep in mind that Brady Quinn looked like Joe Montana today.

I want more than anything for Matt Stafford to finally be our franchise QB. Matts toughness will never be questioned.

I look at this game in two ways:

1) It was the Browns the Lions faced, so Stafford's numbers were indicative of playing a crappy team.

2) Since the Lions are near the same talent level as the Browns I think it projects how Stafford will play when the team improves. Stafford has shown a lot of good moments this year for a rookie. Often he's done it without Calvin Johnson, without a quality No.2 WR, and with a defense that is so bad that Stafford is often facing teams that pin their ears back and throw the sink at him. When the team improves to the point that Stafford is facing situations that most of the QBs in the league face week to week, he'll be a franchise guy.

Stafford didn't have to show this kind of toughness at Georgia, but he did demonstrate this ability to avoid the rush and make the play.

I drafted Sanchez in two dynasty leagues this year (because Stafford was gone), but two weeks ago, traded away a first round pick for Stafford at mid-season because I believe he has a good chance to be better than any of the QBs in the 2010 draft class and none of those guys really stood out to me like Stafford did.

Nice article about Stafford.

"I haven't been to the emergency room," running back Kevin Smith joked, when asked if he knew the severity of Stafford's injury. "That's how tough he is, and it makes me feel good — I almost wanna cry — when you got a teammate out there like that, and he's willing to put it all on the line. There's no telling what his injury is, and how serious it is. You kind of define what type of player you are, what type of person you are, when it comes down to one play, with everything on the line. He could have easily let Daunte come in and take the play. But he wanted to be out there and fight".

I'll say this. Right at this point in their careers, Joe Flacco is better than Matt Stafford and he couldn't do jack #### vs the Browns. 2 weeks ago Stafford couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Looked totally different the past 2 weeks. As far as Quinn is concerned, yep it was the Lions and their D really does suck bad.
