I am just dumb . . . I have Sjax and Cadillac . . .He's been Top 20 dating back to the second half of last season and he's Top 10 in most scoring systems this season. If you have Barber and you're not starting him you must have some incredible talent at RB. In flex leagues, he's an absolute no brainer to be starting. Julius Jones also got hurt tonight so if the injury is serious Barber's value goes up even more. The Cowboys face the Rams next week and should run all over them.
Hard to argue with starting Cadillac this week and he did score but if I had those two I'd be going with Barber. Just my two cents.I am just dumb . . . I will start Barber next week and with my luck, he will get hurt in the 1st quarter . . .Hard to argue with starting Cadillac this week and he did score but if I had those two I'd be going with Barber. BECAUSEHe's their red zone and grind the clock guy.High scoring offense for red zone work (check)Team likely to win 11+ games (check)but the real question is: BECAUSE or DESPITE the way Dallas uses him?
I passed on him as my RB3 and I think I'm going to spend every week kicking myself for that decision. I thought he'd suffer a decline in production this season - not significant but definitely in terms of TDs. But he's showing no signs whatsoever he'll drop off in terms of TDs and he's piling up the yards as well. I can't imagine any Barber parting with him for anything less than an obscene amount at this point.I'd love to have him. Any format, any league. He's averaged more than 1 TD per game since the start of the 2006 season.Last year, he averaged nearly 54 yards per game, but this season his average is up to around 100 yards per game.
He was the 34th pick of the draft in a heavy TD league, and I thought at the time that it was a bad move, too, as it was the team who had him last year who "reached" for him. I chose Owens with the 25th pick, so I'm not complaining, but it clearly wasn't much of a reach.I passed on him as my RB3 and I think I'm going to spend every week kicking myself for that decision. Nope. I had him last season and just didn't think he could recapture everything that he did but it sure looks like I was wrong. I didn't think he'd score 16 TDs again and it appears I was right about that. The thing is - he very well could score more than 16 this season. He was the 34th pick of the draft in a heavy TD league, and I thought at the time that it was a bad move, too, as it was the team who had him last year who "reached" for him. Don't feel bad. Like you I thought it was a lightning in a bottle type thing, too. I thought he would finish with 8-10 TDs and maybe a slight uptick in yards. Call it a learning experience for future FF reference.Nope. I had him last season and just didn't think he could recapture everything that he did but it sure looks like I was wrong. I was projecting 10-12 TDs which is still a good number but I bought into the party line that Jones would be more active in this offense. So I anticipated a slight decline in overall production from Barber and a slight increase in overall production from Jones.Oops.Don't feel bad. Jones has value still (unless he is injured) mostly because Barber could himself get injured. That's the only way I'd start him at this point. Amazing how fast things change.I was projecting 10-12 TDs which is still a good number but I bought into the party line that Jones would be more active in this offense. I still like Jones and I thought he looked pretty good tonight. He had two long gains negated by penalty and showed good burst and he ran with authority. It's too bad he got hurt late because he may have gotten some of the carries late that Barber ended up getting. But as much as I like Jones, it's getting harder and harder to have any faith he's going to deliver some (at worst) decent fantasy production. If he isn't hurt and can't deliver next week against the Rams there may be no hope for him barring an injury to Barber. The sad thing about Jones is that last season he was a respectable RB3 in most leagues but he isn't even at that level now.Jones has value still (unless he is injured) mostly because Barber could himself get injured. That's the only way I'd start him at this point. you're correct. the value is still there, only because jj has shown he can be a workhorse in the games he was soley featured in several years back.was it ever determined why parcells would never annoint jj the 'man' even after his multiple 100+ yard performances a few years back?...Jones has value still (unless he is injured) mostly because Barber could himself get injured. Parcells didn't believe Jones could hold up if given 20+ carries a game consistently. So enter Marion Barber.you're correct. the value is still there, only because jj has shown he can be a workhorse in the games he was soley featured in several years back.was it ever determined why parcells would never annoint jj the 'man' even after his multiple 100+ yard performances a few years back?...Jones has value still (unless he is injured) mostly because Barber could himself get injured. And he had evidence to that effect with various injuries, including one for roughly half the season back in either 2004 or 2005.Parcells didn't believe Jones could hold up if given 20+ carries a game consistently. easy, because......they use him inside the 5 yard line in the passing and rushing game and Dallas is one of the top offenses in the league. It's hard to keep him out of the endzone any week.but the real question is: BECAUSE or DESPITE the way Dallas uses him?
again, MBIII wasnt taken in the second round, and for the record, I wouldnt have taken Barber in the 4th either . . .This is what cracks me up about the people here who slam MJD because he was the "TD guy" BACKUP behind a starter, yet everyone is fine with MB3 who was in a very similar situation (except far LESS total yards than MJD last year). It all depends on how YOUR guy does in the current situation here."Don't draft a QB early" look at what Bulger & Brees have done - Then those with Brady & Palmer say "you better get a consistent starting QB early". It all depends on which guy you ended up with how you view the argument IMO...
What's crazy is in these first three games of this season he's been scoring from well outside of 5 yds. His strength and quickness have allowed him to break tackles and juke on long runs AND receptions. Dude just has crazy sick talent -- and I think he's best with Jones up in the mix. Keeps Barber fresh throughout the game.easy, because......they use him inside the 5 yard line in the passing and rushing game and Dallas is one of the top offenses in the league. I would play Barber only if you like rBs that score TDs every week..iBECAUSE of the way Dallas uses him, orDESPITE the way Dallas uses him?(or is he not an every week starter?)
That's been the pattern. My belief is they would rotate the two RBs early and then give the bulk of the carries to the "hot hand" as the game went on. Last night, neither RB really jumped out although I would contend Jones was running better than Barber prior to his injury in the fourth quarter. So the carries remained split until Jones got hurt. Then Barber mopped up and went gonzo again.Last night was the first full cowboys game that I have watched. It seemed like they were rotating the backs from series to series until Jones got banged up. I don't think that was the format for the first two games was it?
