Is now a good time to buy low on FWP? (1 Viewer)

I'd imagine FWP owners (i'm not one of them) are a little fed up with his first two weeks. But looking at his upcoming schedule could be a good buy right now??

W3 @ Cinci

W4 v. Chargers

W5 @ Detroit

W6 v. Cleveland

W7 v. Vikes

W8 BYE

W9 @ Denver

W10 v. Cinci

W11 @ KC

I understand Mendenhall with steal some carries, but if he might be a great RB3 for the right price

What would you be willing to give up for him? He'll probably get 12-15 carries/game and an occassional TD. What's that worth?

Nocheese - no idea what he'll get carry wise right now.

I own Willie in 2 leagues and he's sitting on my bench and won't move till I have some idea how the carries come out. I have a feeling though that Moore ends up being the Steeler back to own due to the passing nature of the offense.

So if you think he'll get the carries, buy. Otherwise don't. You can't sell him though right now for anything I would think

Here's what isn't debatable through 2 weeks: FWP has absolutely no burst whatsoever. He hasn't played like an NFL caliber RB.

Here's what is debatable: He's either running on fumes, having lost three or four steps OR he's still getting over preseason hamstring/back injuries.

If you believe in the former, sell to whomever will give you anything of value.

If you believe in the latter, roll the dice on the upcoming schedule.

How long before Mendenhall rears his head for a 20 carry game? If they go to 1-2 or 1-3, I'd say that happens. He's a buy low if I ever saw one right now. Whether he can succeed is debatable, but he'll get his shot. I'd say it happens before Halloween.

I'd buy low on Mendenhall and see if he gets a chance in one of those easy games. If/When he does and blows up, you got a stud.

Even if you bought him, would you ever start him? I mean, outside large leagues what's the appeal? Your rb's either are all hurt, really suck, or you have balls of steel and think he's going to start getting goal line carries and the Steelers will start running once the o-line magically clicks back to life.

I'd sell for anything you can get.

I hope Parker has a good game soon. Granted he will be on my bench but I'd like to be able to sell high (however high it may be) as soon as possible. He is dead weight right now and I'd rather take a gamble with someone who might break out later this season.

W3 @ Cinci -- #11 vs. the run; #19 yards allowed/attempt

W4 v. Chargers -- #24#20

W5 @ Detroit -- #22/#23

W6 v. Cleveland -- #31/#28

W7 v. Vikes -- #15/#15

W8 BYE

W9 @ Denver -- #10/#6

W10 v. Cinci -- #11/#19

W11 @ KC -- #21/#14

I think it's too early to give up on Willie. I realize it's also early to get too wrapped up in these stats, so I included both the yards allowed/game and the yards/attempt allowed of each team to try and give some idea of what we might have in these upcoming opponents. Parker started off with Tennessee, #2 in rushing yards allowed and #1 in yards allowed/attempt; Chicago is #12/#17. I think if he can be had at a good price, it ain't a bad idea. The Bengals aren't necessarily a cake-walk right now, but if he doesn't do something in Weeks 4-6, then yeah, that might be it for Fast Willie. I'm not sold on Mendenhall and I don't think he'll make a very good NFL RB when it all washes out. Yeah, he busted out a 39-yard run last week, but his other 6 carries this season have gone for 6 yards. Again, I know it's early, but I just don't like him. For me and the Steelers RB situation, it's Willie or bust.

I already cut him, dead weight in a redraft can not be tolerated!

And in my dynasty, I'm considering it as well, he is done and if he can't do it when Tomlin showed total faith, when can he?

Answer: he wont!

Inexplicably got an offer for Willie Parker this week. The owner of Eddie Royal wanted to trade straight-up in a dynasty PPR. I couldn't accept fast enough. Willie is on his way out. He's got this year (for what that's worth) and then he's out of Pitt and likely a complimentary back.

Things like this need to start happening to me more often...

Looking at his stats playing in Cin the last 4 years he has had atleast 100plus and a TD

He did miss last years game though

this week should be a good indicator me thinks

good luck to him

I think FWP will put up 100 yards and a TD in the next week or two. I don't think he is as washed up as people here believe.

I think the best you can hope for is to play the matchups with Parker. He's always been capable of a 120 yard and 1 or 2 TD performance one week and a 13 carries for 21 yards performance the next when the OL is overmatched. He's had a decent ypc average his entire career but it's a 50-yard rush plus lots of 1, 2 and 3 yarders that gets him there. It's not the same ypc it is with a more powerful but less explosive back like Bettis. If his burst really is gone then those long runs will go away. The OL doesn't give him as many big holes to burst through, either, so it's hard to tell if the burst is there or not. I think he's still got a little bit left, but I'm not sure this is the week yet it's looking pretty good for the next few weeks after Sunday. I don't know that I'd go after him though. I'd keep him if I already had him, but I don't have any confidence in the OL and barely any in WP himself.

As you say, the two concerns are the OL and his burst. The reports say he had a hammy issue which can partially address the burst question. The OL improved game to game, but two weeks is a small sample. The good news is that run blocking is one of the easiest things to improve on as a unit.I bought low on FWP, picking him up off the waiver wire from someone who couldn't wait to clear roster space. I see it like the OP -- this could be the classic buy low scenario, and it was worth the gamble to put him on the end of my bench. There is nothing to indicate that he or the offensive line can't do better, and the schedule is pretty nice to PIT. If the cost is low and the potential reward is high, go for it.

LOL, you can buy low...problem is that his return will stay low. So, what are you really getting then? You get what you paid for in this case.

Good luck. I'm a born and bred Steeler fan and as such, could not pass up Parker as a "value" RB in the subscriber contest. In that format, I still think he has value because he's still liable to pop a long TD nearly any week. He may have lost a step but he had a little bit to lose compared to the average RB. We'll see.

:tinfoilhat:

He looked better in week 2 then week one when he had an injury. He no longer has to face off vs. teams like the Titans or the Bears (save the Vikings) over the next few weeks.

If you can get him on the cheap for a sneaky RB2 or a swing, now is the time.

He likely saved my team this week, depending on what the actual cut is...Parker is probably going to have another 4-5 games like this. Weeks 5, 6, 10, 11, 14 (two against Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, KC) look promising. The rest I would avoid unless lightning strikes and the Steelers somehow get much better at run blocking.

Packaged with Sanchez, I'll see if I can get a high end WR2 while the images of this week's highlights are still fresh in the minds of my rivals.

He looked good this past weekend. It's come out he had an injury and that's why he looked meh to start the year. Now he has minor turf toe.

Is anyone still buying?

Do you have a link to back this information up? I can't find where it's been said he's had this injury since the start of the year, nor that the turf toe is minor.

I saw a report that he had another minor injury from preseason, not turf toe. IIRC they said hamstring.

Something I've noticed while watching, Parker looks to be quite a bit bigger this year. People complained about his size for awhile, now it looks like he's lost a step. Don't know the positive/negative effect of it, just something I've noticed.

I don't know really who the buy low is in Pitt. Mendenhall's shown next to nothing. Yet, Mendenhall's presence keeps Parker's price tag low. Moore looks solid everytime he's ever gotten extended PT [put a gun to my head and he's the ultimate buy low for this year and beyond. Cheapest price tag & great upside with extended PT.
