I think the best you can hope for is to play the matchups with Parker. He's always been capable of a 120 yard and 1 or 2 TD performance one week and a 13 carries for 21 yards performance the next when the OL is overmatched. He's had a decent ypc average his entire career but it's a 50-yard rush plus lots of 1, 2 and 3 yarders that gets him there. It's not the same ypc it is with a more powerful but less explosive back like Bettis. If his burst really is gone then those long runs will go away. The OL doesn't give him as many big holes to burst through, either, so it's hard to tell if the burst is there or not. I think he's still got a little bit left, but I'm not sure this is the week yet it's looking pretty good for the next few weeks after Sunday. I don't know that I'd go after him though. I'd keep him if I already had him, but I don't have any confidence in the OL and barely any in WP himself.
As you say, the two concerns are the OL and his burst. The reports say he had a hammy issue which can partially address the burst question. The OL improved game to game, but two weeks is a small sample. The good news is that run blocking is one of the easiest things to improve on as a unit.I bought low on FWP, picking him up off the waiver wire from someone who couldn't wait to clear roster space. I see it like the OP -- this could be the classic buy low scenario, and it was worth the gamble to put him on the end of my bench. There is nothing to indicate that he or the offensive line can't do better, and the schedule is pretty nice to PIT. If the cost is low and the potential reward is high, go for it.
