Is Phillip Dorsett the Shark move in NE? (2 Viewers)

Those guys don't have anything to do with long passes, except maybe when they're on the field dump offs become a better option. This is apples to oranges imo.
NE has been using Dorsett underneath and short sideline routes so far this year. I expect a lot of 2 TE sets (Gronk and Allen in running formations, Gronk and Holister on passing situations) with 2 WR (Edelman when he gets back from his time out and Hogan) with a RB. Depending upon down / distance / field position will dictate how much Dorsett and Patterson will play.

I don't think it is a given that Dorsett plays a ton of snaps or is a 3 down receiver, that he becomes a deep threat guy, or that the team passes as much as it has in the past. I still think Dorsett will fall behind Edelman, Gronk, Hogan, White, and possibly Burkhead in targets (assuming good health of all involved).

I can't rationalize why they're using him in underneath routes. Maybe they want to see how he does or they want him to learn. But I know he's fast. And when a defense needs exploited by a fast wide receiver who can get deep, I know who's number will get called. Ted Ginn for New England at a minimum. And I disagree, it's close to a given. It's at least between Patterson and Dorsett, and my money is on the latter. For one thing, he's had one more full season in NE.

As far as the underneath stuff, maybe he catches on offering a windfall for the guy who gets him. Just one more reason to draft him.

From what I remember reading early in camp, Dorsett did well in practice or game conditions working with Hoyer and Etling (with Brady out on his world tour). But when Brady came back they didn't connect on long plays (whether it be timing, drops, not being where Brady expected him, coverage, chemistry . . . who knows). But they were able to get more in-sync on shorter stuff, dump offs, side line routes, etc. who knows if any of that means anything or if that is any indication on how they will use him during the season.

I think given the receiving options they have across all positions, on any given play they could have someone as a deep threat or a coverage mismatch based on what Brady sees at the LOS and what he recognizes as coverage.

Dorsett had 1 short receiption for 29 minutes then 3 catches and a TD in the last minute of the first half.

I know Hogan has been shooting up the ADP ranks with Edelman being out for 4 weeks and not much apparent depth behind him.

But Dorset looked good again tonight and looks like being the WR2 for those 4 weeks, and perhaps a WR3 from there on.

Given the cornerbacks Hogan will be facing in weeks 1-4:
1. vs HOU  Johnathan Joseph, 75.7 grade

2. vs Jax  Jalen Ramsey, 91.8 grade

3. vs Detroit   Darius Slay, 88.1 grade

4. vs MIA   OK that's a good start  :-)

I wonder if Dorset isn't a sneaky good bet to put up some nice stats in the first month of the season? Brady knows how to find the open man.

So the proposition is over, the 4 weeks are done.

Dorsett 16 receptions 165 yards 2 TDs  (19, 9, 0, 15)

Hogan    8 receptions   109 yards    2 TDs    (2, 19, 6, 3)

I won't say it was a tremendous call, but he was serviceable in 2 out of 3 games when he played.

But I don't know if he did enough to earn Brady's trust and now that Edelman is back, I'm not sure he can. To the bench, PD.

Has more targets than Gronkowski, close to twice as many as Hogan. Leads you to believe Brady does trust him. Can't fault you for benching him, but I wouldn't drop him. He could continue to produce WR3 numbers with Edelman returning. Very possible.

Oh, I won't drop him. I have him in a pure keeper league. I drafted him as a rookie. The way I see it, Edelman will get force fed the ball early on by his buddy Tom. But that will open up PD big time. Teams will leave help back for Gronk and Edelman and PD will get inferior single coverage and after a few games might just become something. At least that's what I hope. But I fear that this will be the Gronk Edelman show again. At least it will be for the next few weeks. Whether it stays that way, I don't know.

It's hard to tell how it all will work out, except it's agiven Gronk will get his when healthy. I'm encouraged that Dorsett has gotten more looks than Hogan, and has done well other than the Detroit game. He does better on the short stuff than I expected. Maybe Edelman takes away from those looks, or maybe Edelman helps open the deep pass which has so far eluded him, or some combination. But unlike Gronk, I don't think it's a guarantee Edelman walks back into 10 targets a game.

I was listening to Brady's interview before the Monday night game on ESPN radio. He was absolutely gushing about Julian. As a Dorsett owner, I wasn't very encouraged by that.
