Is Portis dogging it to get Zorn fired? (1 Viewer)

I have a feeling after the leadup and aftermath to last weeks game vs Detroit that Portis may be quitting on his coach.

He has had some run ins with Zorn before and I doubt he was really happy about losing the 3rd down duties going into this year.

After the Rams win Portis spoke to the media at length and said everyone was on the hot seat. I have a feeling he smells the blood in the water and may be dogging it right now in hopes Zorn may be fired sooner than later.

Last weeks injury seems a bit off to me. Bone spurs in the ankle that were painful but no swelling? Well it certainly caught the Redskins beat writers off guard as there was no mention of it before last Wednesday at all. I also find it unusual to be limited on practice Wednesday and Thursday then miss Friday altogether yet still play.

Then in the 4th Quarter he basically pulled himself from the game on the last 2 drives because he got kicked in the calf?

I am not saying he isn't dealing with some minor problems but just about every running back in the league deals with some minor aches every week. I just suspect he might be dogging a bit to get Zorn fired.

Maybe, but remember he has bone spurs on both ankles and has alot of carries on that body. He seems to break down every year.

But the reskins Oline and QB just isnt that good.

Clinton Portis have always been professional, so no, I don't see him dogging it. He had a great season early on last year but he's been a workhorse and sooner or later it will take its toll.

Maybe Zorn asked him to so he can get himself fired.

FYI, whether Zorn has what it takes or not, anyone coming in will not be able to win with this turd team.

There was no mention of it anywhere but he hurt his ankle in the St Louis game. I was at the game and he was noticeable limping off the field multiple times in the second half. I was really surprised to not read anything about it after the game or anytime the following week.

I don't think it's a leap to say Portis and Zorn don't have great adoration for one another, but Portis is also historically a hard working, self motivated guy. I think a back of Portis' caliber is more concerned about his own finality, place in history, and one last potential financial windfall to "dog" it in hopes the team makes a head coaching change.

This whole Portis situation is just a big mess. Last week the ankles. This week the ankles are fine but now it's the calf. One thing I have determined is the beat writers for the Redskins don't have a clue or any real insight into this situation.

I don't see how a bruised calf could possibly stop a running back from playing. If you read the comments today you can see there is still a lot of tension between Portis and Zorn. Both Zorn and Portis say the ankles are not the issue this week.

Zorn says it is 50-50% but I don't want to be dealing with this evey week. In other words, I believe he saying if Portis doesn't think he is healthy enough to practice then he shouldn't play.

I am not defending Portis at all. I think he thinks he is more powerful in the organization than Zorn and he doesn't respect him at all. But, regardless to whether or not Portis plays on Sunday I fully believe that if Zorn was fired on Monday, Portis would be at practice next Wednesday as a full participant.

Zorn seems to be doing a fine job of it all by himself - I doubt that he needs a running back whose treadwear bars are showing to give him any help, intentional or not.

Zorn is so gone that there is no need for anyone to dog anything, particularly Portis who is a hard working son of a gun.

Portis is a pro. He plays hard every week, whether he's injured or not. Guy is a warrior.

It probably annoys him to be weighed down by a coach who either: a) is incompetent, or b) isn't working hard enough.

I wonder why the Deadskins don't start Collins. He looked good a couple of years ago, and seems to be a vet that can run the offense. I think Campbell is the real issue.

I don't think Portis would dog it in a game of Putt Putt with his grandmother. He may not like Zorn, but look elsewhere for a loafer malcontent.

I don't think he is dogging it in the games. But he is dogging it in practice. The question is how long will Zorn allow Portis to keep playing on Sundays if he never practices?I have a feeling this whole situation is about to blow up one way or another.

Isn't this one of the first years that campbell isn't learning a new offense?

I think you are WAY off base here.Portis is not dogging it in practice. He is resting his body for Sundays because he has several minor injuries and a ton of mileage on him. This has NOTHING to do with trying to get Zorn fired. Portis is a competitor and he's trying to get one more decent payday before he goes off into the sunset so to dog it to get a coach fired makes ZERO sense. Especially when that coach has a good chance of getting fired in his own right. This is nothing more than wild internet speculation coming out of somebody's bum.

Campbell is like problem number 15 on the Skins list of issues. He is not the issue here.He has played decently. Not great but not nearly as bad as most people want to believe.Collins played well 2 years ago under Al Saunders b/c he knew the playbook in and out having been with Saunders for 9 years in KC and DC. He is a career backup and is certainly not the answer.

Of course it is speculation. But it's not that wild. The official story is that he didn't practice all week and might miss Sunday because of a bruised calf?My question to you is do you buy that?Has any NFL player ever missed a game because of a bruised calf?

Well, yeah, but there have been so many excuses already. I don't think he is the real deal. It won't be long if they keep losing.

Well, Jason Taylor missed half the year last year with a bruised calf. Plenty of players have missed games with calf injuries. And Id say that being a running back, the calf is prolly a pretty important part of the body.I live in the DC area and listen to sports talk everyday. Portis' injuries are legit. It makes more sense to rest him and hope he can go on Sunday than to wear him down in practice through the week. Portis said earlier in the off season that he was in favor of giving Betts 3rd down work if it would keep him fresh over the course of the year.Suggesting that he is dogging to get his coach fired is WILD speculation and has no merit.

Campbell is on pace to put up 4200 yards this year.

Portis is one of the toughest most competitive guys in the league.

Zorn is the problem, and when he gets fired it'll be his own fault. For all Syder's flaws there's enough talent on this team to beat the Rams by more than two and not lose to the Lions.
