Is Sproles a viable pickup (1 Viewer)

I need help at my RB2 and I noticed someone dropped Sproles to the WW

We score 1pt per 10 yards rush/recv and 1 pt per 20 return yards (0.5ppr)

Last year Sproles was the #9RB in my league. The previous year he was the #19RB in my league. He's not a sexy pickup but what says the shark pool?

I'd pick him up. If Mathews is out for any extended period of time his value will go up even more. Most likely he'll be in a timeshare with Tolbert while Mathews is out.

If he has done that the past 2 years in that league, why would you even question it? It was the same reason I rostered Amendola and Jacoby Jones in my Return yardage leagues...

I only question it cause it seems as if he gets his pts in spurts - preferably I'd want to have some solid consistent production at my #2RB position.

Probably a good bye-week fill in though.

you might ask too much of your RB2. Personally, that's one position I will take more variance with.

He's a viable starter, not just a backup.

My league scoring: IDP / individual return yards (20yd = 1pt) / .5 PPR for RBs

2009: Sproles finished as RB #10

2008: Sproles finished as RB #14

Part of that value comes from PPR, but even without that he still gets used on offense enough to put up stats beyond his return yardage.

Edit - after two weeks this year he is RB #28 but I expect that to pick up.

Sproles was the #11 RB in our league last year where we count returns as 1 pt per for every 15yds. So he was definitely scooped during the draft.

are you all living inthe past? The chargers were down (where sproles usally gets his) and he got ONE STINKING CARRY. Hell they had the bowling ball tollbert in there on that last drive.

I love me some sproles, but i think it's time to let the ship sail. He's taking up a roster spot more than anything

:lmao:He's a weekly starter. Nothing wrong with having a homerun or strikeout kind of guy as your rb #2.

Yes. Specifically, 5 days ago, before the Seattle game which you are referencing as though we "should have known".Sproles can be a threat in the short passing game and SD should continue to use him as such. Rivers was looking deep a lot in Week 3, so I say he is a "hold" at least until a few more games give us more clues as to how much they plan to use him.

The bigger concern is Patrick Crayton getting punt return duty (this thread was specifically about return yard leagues).

I cut him for Blount (also have Tolbert). Return TDs in my league, no yardage. I drafted him figuring he is a true flex player. Not showing me much lately.

I noticed from watching that Sproles doesn't seem to be doing much on the kick returns, just running up the middle into the pile. There hasn't been one return that looked to be anywhere close to breaking it for a TD. The fact that Tolbert is almost surely the official RB2, and Crayton taking away some kicking duties, I gave him the boot.

I just dropped him to pick up Lance Moore. I'm having bye issues and he just has not done anything on the field besides returning well. He looks really bad running.

I generally don't like using starting RB slots on guys whose primary role is returner, so I'm not as high on the Sproles and Stephens-Howlings of the world, as opposed to guys like Cribbs, Tate, Hester, Amendola, etc.

I'm about to cut him also. Now my league is 1 pt for every 15 return yards and 10 pts for a return TD (all normal TD's are worth 6). I still have Harvin so I can probably roll the dice without Sproles. Someone else will probably get him and then he'll have 2 long punt returns go for touchdowns.
