Is there an "I was forced to draft Aaron Brooks" supt. group (1 Viewer)

My name is Shawn, and I drafted Aaron Brooks at 5.08 in a 12-team 5 player keeper league. He was the 18th QB drafted. I had just elected NOT to keep Aaron Brooks in favor of Culpepper (which I felt would be in a better position come week 14-16). I feel dirty.

The only way I could see Brooks not putting up big fantasy numbers is if he's either hurt or loses the job. I don't think that he loses the job though so injury is really the only problem.

He may not be a great NFL QB, but he's been a great fantasy QB. And now he has Randy Moss to throw to and Lamont Jordan running the ball and catching out of the backfield. I think that he's a great fantasy option and extremely undervalued by a lot of people due to his poor real world decision making.

Brooks @ 18 *should* be a steal - as he'll finish top 15 worst case (if he stays on the field for 16 games).

Crap D, decent run game to keep opposing D's honest, and solid WRs make for good stats. OAK will lose a lot of games, but they'll put up some points in the process.

And if I understand your post, you've kept Culp - so AB will be insurance and early season starts if needed. (I think Culp comes back strong this year with 25+ tds). Not a bad QBBC worst case - IF Brooks proves solid.

So, you took him in the equivalent of the 10th round as the 18th QB drafted? For a guy who probably has an ADP in the early 9s, you got value. Be happy with it. Especially as your backup QB. The only concern with Brooks is that the Raiders suck badly enough that they're giving Andrew Walter a look by week 12, just to see what they have in him. By that time, you should expect Culpepper to be nearer 100% and not give a damn about Brooks anyway.

I feel your pain bro. Last year I swore I would never draft him again, but then I see him sitting there late with all of the upside so I take a chance. Let's hope he improves between the HOF game and the season. Yeah it's only preseason, and he only threw 3 passes, but he looked terrible.

He always does that in the 1st quarter, that's when he throws the INT's to get his team down a few scores. You need a full game with him because the 4th qtr when his team is down by 3 scores and the defense is in prevent is when he does his real damage.

:lmao: this is completely spot on.if i am down 10 points with aaron brooks still playing with 5 minutes to go, i am already chalking up my victory. he is the king of the late garbage time TD.

I had a bid on him in my 12 team, keep 10, salary cap league. I was willing to go up to 5.5 million on him...but then someone got him for $6 million. I didn't know if I should thank him or curse his family. After Sunday nights HOF game...I was jumping for joy!

Aaron Brooks is one of those players that I will absolutely NOT have on my roster. I have been burned by him way too many times in the past. He ranks right up there with Duce McCallister and Terrell Owens for me.

Sounds exactly like Plummer while in arizona. His reigning in is why some feel Brooks will be better in Oakland.

When did he burn you? I hope you did not pick him in a high round. Except for last year he has been a solid FF QB.

He used to take every fantasy post season off. I remember one Sunday Nite game during the fantasy playoffs/championship where he posted a negetive number.

Well, maybe co-kings?Brooks vs Culpepper [2001 - 2005]:

Brooks threw 111 TD passes, 36 of which were 4th quarter TDs (32.4%). In the 30 games where he threw those 36 TD passes, New Orleans was 17-13.

Culpepper threw 102 TD passes, 31 of which were 4th quarter TDs (30.4%). In the 28 games where he threw those 31 TD passes, Minnesota was 12-16.

not to rub salt in your wound, I drafted Aaron Brooks.....then packaged him away with Reggie Bush for Matt Hasselbeck, Chad Johnson and a couple of picks next year.......

I'll join the group, though I started T. Green instead of him :bag: I just dropped Green, and picked up Pennington, but I could have just as easily dropped Brooks. He'll have good days this year, but he will also have awful days like last night, which I didn't think he would. :bag: :banned:

In one league I have a shot at Rivers. Marty has him on a tight leash he'll probably still throw 3 times as many TDs as Brooks.

 I used to HATE playing a guy that had Joe Horn. Guy seemed to have 3 catches for 40 yards going into the final quarter and ends up with 135 and a TD or two everytime.

People, just drop Brooks and stop fretting. There are certainly a couple of options on the WW. Alex Smith. Chad Pennington, perhaps. Make the move and rid yourself of the stress.

14 team league = no starting QBs on the WW (just injury replacements)

It always makes me wonder when people are a proponent of just outright dropping a QB that still has a starting gig(and certainly so early in the season). Unless you're in an 8 team league, explain to me how a starting QB for any team is likely to be available on the WW?

I'm in a 12 teamer and absolutely every QB who wasn't part of a potential committee(i.e. Buffalo)was drafted. Even Losman was picked up off the WW prior to week one.

Unless you're in a small league, or a league with a 2 QB roster limit, I can't see how you could expect to find even Alex Smith or Rex Grossman on the waiver wire. If you drafted Brooks, you probably ain't finding anyone better off the WW at present as far as opportunity goes....unless you can make the points retroactive to week one and you pick up Charlie Batch. :)

My QBBC = Plummer and Brooks :bag: :bag:
Same here. And Mark Brunell :bag:Damn you VBD Theory. Telling me not to keep Marc Bulger so I could hang onto a WR instead. Then 2 top 12 WRs fall to me in the draft anyway, and I'm stuck rotating Plummer, Brooks, and Brunell. I started Plummer because of the matchup against the worst defense of the 3. -7 points. Thank you.Chad Pennington and Alex Smith are on the waiver wire. Trent Green could be dropped soon. Frye is available. So are Huard and Batch, which could work for a week.

Hey, guys. I drafted Brooks quite late. Luckily, in the following round, I nabbed Brett Favre to back him up. :bag:
I did the same thing... regardless, I some how managed to pull a win out of my ear this week. So now I have a crappy waiver wire postion and will most likely miss my shot at Alex Smith.Really.... I was actually looking forward to having Alex Smith on my team. Ugh.

Yeah, I won, too, so I probably won't get him, either. Maybe Grossy will be there.

I have Brooks in 2 of my 3 leagues...I only drafted him in the one league because I drafted Big Ben and well that night he went in for surgery so I drafted Brooks in the 15 round or a 15 round league.

The system is horrible.... 8-step drops and go deep? The only plays that worked were the turn/pitch/catch to Moss on the LOS. Once they run some quick slants, etc, Brooks will be OK, but when will that happen?

It's like Brooks has ADD... he's got 2 or 3 games where he is totally out of whack. The flipside is that Shell might suck. The backup QB was taking 7 steps too.,..

I took Brooks as my QB1 when 21 QBs were already gone. I've got Leftwich and Simms as well. Looks like I'll be playing Leftwich for the foreseeable future.

Hi, my name is kal-el. I binged on RBs, WRs, and TEs in my auction and had to buy Brooks and Sims late for $1 each. I knew better than to take Brooks but felt like I had no choice. Now I know I do have a choice; I'm dropping him, even if it means adding Charlie Frye.

[Posted the rest of this in the Lamont Jordan thread, as well, but it's equally relevant here.]

Normally, I don't overreact to one bad week. But I don't think this Raiders team is a normal NFL team at this point. Normal NFL teams don't have offensive coordinators with bios like this:

Since being fired by the Raiders, Walsh was head coach for two seasons at Idaho State and worked as director of operations and head coach of a minor-league franchise in Mobile, Ala. He has been out of football since 1999.

Walsh owns and operates the Hansen Guest Ranch in Swan Valley, Idaho. Reached at the ranch by telephone, Walsh said he wouldn't talk about his new job until next week.

Every year I read the perfect draft column and wait to pick a QB and every year I end up with Brooks. You would think I would learn but I guess I'm one of those old dogs. Keep missing out on the supposed value of middle of the pack QB's. Now if I'm gonna drop Brooks I get to pick from guys like McNair or Brees to backup Warner. :wall:
