Is there any hope for LaMont Jordan the rest of the year? (1 Viewer)

Well, is there?

Should this guy still be on anyone's roster?

Better question is there hope for any Raider?

I would think you have to ride him out on pine tar. Hope for better things next year. His trade value is nothing what his worth will be once Oakland gets its offense back in gear way down the road from now.

I've given up on him for this year, and I'm starting to worry about his value for next year as well.

Well, I don't want to turn this into a AC thread, but there are a couple of guys sitting on the WW that have a CHANCE to be pretty valuable down the stretch. Do you forsee any scenario where I regret releasing Jordan?

Short answer is

No.

Dynasty answer is more complicated. I think if your a dynasty owner you must hold and see what transpires in next years off season. You will not get anything close to your percieved market value for him.

This is for redraft purposes.

The only hope I foresee with the Raider offense would be if Aaron Brooks comes back and can establish a downfield passing game. Activating Porter is a step in the right direction, and with a passing attack, things could open up for LaMont. Hopefully Shell will get over his man-love for huggy bear jr, and realize that LaMont is a more talented back.

So, to answer your question....there is a slim chance, but the window of opportunity is closing quickly.

Actual value = he is near WW material (depending on roster reqirements)

However since he was drafted so high, I doubt any owners are cutting him loose. Still waiting for the breakout game......

I think he had his breakout game, he just wasn't able to follow it up with much of anything.

It would be a lot easier if his schedule during the playoffs didn't look so good.

No way. Dean Witter has him list as "HOLD".

What good will it really do you to cut him? I mean, the best thing on the WW is probably someone like Nick Herron or Ron Dayne.

If the OC realizes he should be back at BK flipping burgers, then Jordan will finally see some carries. And you could have a solid #2 RB come playoff time.

Like I said, I think is depends on your roster requirements/rules.

This was a guy in the top 10 going into the year in most people's opinions both redraft and dynasty. They get their starting QB back soon (a huge upgrade at the position) to a guy who while flawed puts up top 10 numbers. It could jumpstart the entire offense. Could. Combine that with a nice playoff schedule and Jordan is still somewhat of a buy low kind of cat if the price were cheap enough.

Marion Barber, Mike Bell.
unless you're in a 4 team, short roster league, marion barber needs to be on a team. dump lamont pronto.ETA: i'm not sure, but i think Barber III has more TDs this season than Lamont has yards from scrimmage. this should really be a no-brainer.

I traded him and Grossman for Rudi and McNair. I already had Brady.

I am not worried about him anymore. So the answer is NO HOPE!!!!!

I still have Lamont as a BUY LOW, buy very low. I actually offered up Droughns for Lamont last week and was turned down. I just have a gut feeling that he's going to be somewhat valuable as a RB 2/3 down the stretch.

I wouldn't go DROPPING Jordan. But is his value going to ever go up this year? Not too likely. He'll get some yards here and there, but that offense is just atrocious. The O-line sucks and the QB play is horrid. Jordan doesn't get a chance to run anywhere...

I had the 10th pick in a 10 team league. At 10 I took Jordan and at 11 I took Caddy. From what I have seen so far, I have much more confidence that Jordan will improve than I do Caddy. I think once Brooks comes back the Raiders offense may improve a little. TB is what it is and I'm sick of watching Caddy total 30-40 yds a game. Plus Gruden abandons the run so quickly that Caddy never gets 20 carries.

So I'm holding Jordan but Caddy is about to make his way to the waiver wire for the A-Train. If I don't get the A-Train I will probably be dropping Caddy for a guy like D. Williams who does have some upside.

So yes - I still have some hope for Jordan. He actually didn't look too bad Monday night with the few carries he received. The addition of Brooks and a pretty good schedule coming up should help.

Willie

I think there's a slight bit of hope. Slight. As in "if things just got a little better on the Raiders O he could get you 80 yards a week and a td every other week and play as your flex player" kind of hope. I was happy to dump him and Hines Ward to a guy with bad RB and WR problems and a couple of good QB's for Drew Brees. But I doubt there's many situations where you're going to get much for him in redraft. I wouldn't outright cut him for a guy in a RBBC, though. I mean really, which is the more likely proposition?

1) The Raiders O slightly improves to the point where Jordan can average 80/.5 a week down the stretch.

2) A guy like Barber or Bell gets to carry the full load with another good back on the team and possibly does better than 80/.5 a week.

Since I'll assume you're not starting him anymore and are looking for depth down the stretch if something happens to a starter, I'd at least rather have a guy that I know is getting carries the week my starter comes up with a hammy strain. A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush and all that.

Given how much public scrutiny the Raiders are under for not running much against Seattle, I can't imagine that the Raiders don't committ to the run more down the stretch. They were having success doing it, but gave up on it and almost got their QB killed in the process.

And given the fact that he has matchups with KC, Houston, and then Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Kansas City again in the playoffs, I'd say there's hope that he can be an above average flex player down the stretch. Not what he was drafted for in most cases, but not worthless either.

Plus add in the fact that Lamont Jordan went public about the misuse of the offense. Maybe its time Art Shell wakes up, remembers hes an ex "big ugly" and jams the ball down the other team's throat.

Interesting discussion so far.......but what about Lamont in Keeper Leagues?

OAK could have a whole new outlook next year.

So, for next year.......Is Lamont a:

Top 30 keeper?.....probably not

Top 40 keeper?.....probably not

Top 50 keeper?......??

Top 60 keeper?......??

At what point do YOU draw the line?

(assume no contract yrs/no auction parameters)

top 60 keeper, but would move back up to top 40 if Oakland begins to use the right way again.

We're half way through the season & despite everyone & their brother knowing the Raiders O'line is a sieve, Walsh still game plans the deep routes & seven step drops, while underutilizing the running game & short routes with quick drops.

If the Bed & Breakfast idiot hasn't made any basic adjustments to the offense in 8 weeks, why would anyone think he will now?

Jordan is getting production when he faces defenses that he *should* be able to run on.

He had a great game against Cleveland, he has very good YPC against Seattle and San Fran (7.0 and 5.9 ypc) but the team only gave him 9 and 12 rush attempts.

The teams that shut him down were San Diego, Denver, Pittsburgh and Baltimore... who shut down EVERYONE. He was injured for the Arizona game.

I guess the biggest concern with him involves the coaching staff pulling their heads out of their arses, but at some point even Shell and Walsh have to realize Jordan is their only chance... dont they?

Raideer in the Headlights -- aka Shell -- finally opened his mouth this past week and admitted he should have run LaMont more vs. Seattle. Gee, you think? F$#@#$ing Dumb###!

Anyway, I think he improves a bit down the stretch as Brooks comes back and if Shell realizes Lamont needs to be utilized more and sticks with is, esp. in the passing game like last year. It's a big "if" but with that schedule he might, MIGHT emerge as a decent flex starter iin the playoffs. Do not drop him outright, and only trade him if you're getting someone you know can at least likely get you a TD per week. Someone, in every league, still has visions of Jordan's 2005 season, even though that seemms like decades ago, and might be willing to take a chance on him.

Sorry, but if Art Shell got eaten by wolves on the way to the next game, I'd laaaaaaugh, and laaaaaugh, and laaaaaaugh....

Rotoworld: After giving Justin Fargas just one carry in Week 9, Raiders head coach Art Shell said "We need to get him the ball." Fargas is probable and will play Sunday. It's uncertain how Shell and Tom Moore will divvy up carries if the Raiders run the ball against Denver.

So, in the same breath as saying that they should have given LaMont the ball more, he says they also have to give Fargas the ball more? This guy should be taken out back behind the shed and put out of his misery a la Old Yeller. :wall: :wall:

Lamont is toast for 2006. I mean just look at Monday Night. He is their lone bright spot, on basically their only real drive of the game, and then when they get right to the edge of scoring range they pass the ball 3 times and punt.

The guy had like 40 yards on that drive and finished with a 9/63/0 statline right? So how do you only give a guy 9 carries the whole game with a 7ypc average? Rainy conditions, neither passing game is clicking as the wet ball kept getting dropped. They were down less than 2 TDs the entire game! And with all the talk about getting Fargas involved these past few weeks? Man.

Last year Lamont was the focal point, this year he is the ugly stepson. It's almost like Shell/Walsh thinks he was converted to TE because he stays in to block so much. Every time he runs the ball, it's like a trick play.

Art Shell should be chained to a rock and pecked apart by seagulls. Can you tell I hate this f'n idiot? :)
Until Al Davis goes paws up or steps down you wont do much better than the current group of ###clowns.
:goodposting: The problem is Davis. No coach with big aspirations is going to want to go someplace where he'll have to contend with Davis's meddling ownership style, not unless they dangle big bucks, something im not sure davis is willing to do.

agree to an extent, but was it davis' meddling that made raideer in the headlights and/or bed & breakfast drop walter back again and again and again, knowing he'd get wrecked every time, especially when lamont was running well in a rainy "run-friendly" environment?! was it davis who ignored jordan's 7 YPC against a hawks defense that had already let up several thousand rushing yards the past couple weeks? was it davis who made them punt on 4th and short when their season is over anyway, tey're only down 13-0, so what's to lose by going for it with said effective running game? they had so many reasons to run and so few reasons to pass, and yet they did the exact opposite. that's on these two completely f'n retaaaahded a-holes, not davis.

After OC's today eh BigScore? You are correct here; it is so obvious that there is an issue when the receivers are all running straight down field and not even turning around before Walters is on his rear. I mean they need to be running some quick slants and 3 step drop passes to get the ball out of his hands. Walters isn't very good, but you wouldn't know if he was with the line and play calling

Yep and Lamont is pretty poor at blocking as well

I know this was not the point of your post, but I always have an issue with someone saying "our season is over" or something like that for a reason to go for a 4th down play. The ONLY thought you should have is whether I go for this play helps me win the game or hurts my chances. I mean your record is really meaningless as you are trying to give your team the best chance to win. The answer is yes if the benefit outweighs the risk. Possibly if you are on the goal line at the end of the game and are deciding between going for the win or the loss/tie that would be the only time it may be a what the heck scenario, but not during the game.

You're right, but it takes a quality coach to understand what is going on and make adjustments accordingly. As long as Davis is still there, they wont get such a quality coach.

 It just seems that way Liquid Tension. I'm only calling it like I see it.

I don't know why everyone is convinced Aaron Brooks is coming back. Why would they play him again, even if he ever does get healthy? He won't be a Raider next year. And will he ever be healthy again anyway? I don't recall ever seeing a timetable for him to be recovered.

I think Walter starts the rest of the year, barring being broken in half of course. Hell, they might play Tui before Brooks. Face it, Jordan is worthless. That said, I doubt if I will drop him.
