Is there any reason for Denver to Keep Champ (1 Viewer)

Are there championship caliber teams out there lacking a corner? Seems so. Will his efforts amount to anything in Denver in the next two years, I don't think so. By the time the Broncos are reorganized to being competitive he will be past his prime. Seems to me his worth at this point is as trade bait.

This exactly what I posted in the other Cutler thread.

Champ has 2 or 3 good years left in him. I think they should trade him while he has value. What is the point of having a player like this on a team that is going no where at least this year. There are multiple teams that would gladly give a 1st rounder if not this year but next for a player like this.

Plus it would be nice to see Denver do the right thing by him and get him to a team that has a chance for a ring.

I feel really bad for Dawkins--I am sure he was brought to Denver on the pretense of this team being a contender and now he is stuck with a team that is going to have its defense on the field for most of the game due to its offense struggling to score 13 points a game.

I didn't see your post but I could have guessed that a few of the thoughtful Bronco fans, such as you, would be ahead of me here.

Why? I don't see Denver as a rebuilding team. They aren't a contender, but look at their off season. They picked up Dawkins, Buckhalter and other veteran players.

Just because Cutler is gone, it doesn't mean Denver is starting over from scratch.

At this point anybody over 28 on their roster probably should be looked at.
This is the NFL, where teams that are great become bad in the offseason for no visible reason, and teams that are awful become good for no apparent reason.I was saying the same thing last year when the Dolphins were looking to give away Jason Taylor on the cheap because they were "rebuilding". Their "rebuilding" effort ended up being an 11-5 playoff team that could've really used a good edge rusher. I know Taylor got hurt, but who knows what would've happened in Miami.

Patriots could use a corner. :goodposting:
And they are rich in draft choices if I recall.
But lacking cap space. They are presently $3.75 million under the cap with their 11 draft picks to potentially sign. IIRC, Bailey is due $8.5 million this year. I believe DEN would have to take on $7 million in dead money/cap hit to get rid of Bailey.
How about Philly? They've usually got cap room and they just traded whatshisname.

If that is true then Champ isn't going anywhere.

Does Bailey fit their MO?

I see Denver as a team in an easy division who had very fortuitious calls from the refs to take some games they should not have, all to end up with a mediocre record. They have now lost their coach, Q.B. and likely their most dynamic playmaker for part of the season. Yes I know they will likely be healthier at R.B. but I see a mediocre team at best, in a difficult conference, trending down for at least a year while installing a new system. Champ will be what 31 this season. He has been nicked with some injuries. He is not going to ever have more value and it is likely he will be going downhill. Why not try to poistion for two to three years out when N.E. and Indy don't loom so large? I know anything can happen, but I am not seeing them getting past N.E., Miami, Indy, Tennessee or San Diego. I don't see how they are going to deal with Baltimore or Houston, I suspect that the Jets, and Bills will be better. Jacksonville and K.C. seem intent on building. Where will Denver's oportunity be if not in rebuilding?

Denver has some good young parts. They are rich in draft choices, and could get richer. Things can turn around quickly as you say. I'm just not seeing it this year, or really even next.

This is a good reason N.E. won't be a partner. Are there other partners out there?
