Okay,

So it's the off-season, but trades could still be made, especially in dynasties. But not in my leagues!

And here I thought that's why you join a dynasty - to keep it goin' year round. I mean, if you're gonna wait til after the NFL draft, camp openings, etc. to play, why not just join a redraft league?

One of these years, I would like to form a league with truly hard-core, risk taking, horse trading, play all out - all the time coaches. Maybe set the pole position of the draft aside for the most improved team (not sure of the metrics) or if not pole position, award a 1 player shopping spree from the waiver wire to the best trader before it opens to league. Incentives to keep the league movin' & lively.

After all, it is a game. How much fun can you have playin' "wait n see"? Obviously, my tolerance for this style of play is low.

How about your leagues?

I'm in 5 Dynasty leagues and here is how they are doing so far this offseason:League 1-Trading has been moderate with lots of activity.

League 2-Lot's of trading activity in this one.

League 3-Minimal activity.

League 4-Like a morgue in this one.....

League 5-See League 4 :bag:

Nightshift, I had the exact same thought yesterday when I went to my league's MFL website and saw that the last time the 9 of the 12 owner had visited the site was more than 30 days ago!

Finding a year round dynasty league is tougher than you would think. Those guys over in JaWs have a good thing going.

yes, very, this is the primary reason I bult a league around various player activities in the offseason..

Pre NFL auction, where we bid on propspects before the draft....

Post NFL auction where we bid on the other players after they are drafted

A Restricted Free Agency Period where you can try to take players off other teams rosters...

A Free agency period, where you bid on players that were cut due to roster limits at the end of the previous season...

something almost every month.. jsut keep it kinetic

I'm in a couple of dynasty leagues, many of the owners are from the Shark Pool. Fairly active most of the year...but it's slowed down recently. There have been a few trades mades in the last month...but fairly slow overall. I think everything will bust loose in late March (post combine/pro days) & really get crazy after the NFL Draft. Be patient...it's the calm before the storm.

The SFL (16 teams) doesn't have an off-season. Seriously, the NFL off-season is our busy season. Between rules changes, fixing salary cap sheets, trading, tagging players, 2 FA periods, and the college draft . . . owners really don't have a choice but to be active. Given that, there still seems to be a few owners that do just enough to stick around.

I wouldn't be for doing anything gimmicky to promote participation. Either guys are into it or they're not.

FWIW, trading has been open since February 1st and there have been 6 so far involving 8 teams.

I'm in only one dynasty league and it is very active. In fact, I just made a trade today, and made another last week.

I'm in a very competitive, deep keeper league (keep up to 8), but it definitely slows down from the end of the regular season until free agency hits.

Generally speaking, people won't trade until after the NFL draft. It's unfortunate, yet understandable since no one wants to trade for a player whose value could plummet after the rookie draft.

 Yep! best group of owners I've been involved with! And it was all sprung here at this board. I think Football Jones has made it what he initially set out to do. "The best lieague born of FBG" Thanks Coyle!!

That's a "glass 1/2 full, 1/2 empty" statement. You could make a trade for a player & their value soars after the draft. No rewards in being timid... :boxing:

I agree with you 100%. I'm one of the few that tries to make some deals, but it falls on deaf ears so I just let it go until post-draft.

Exactly. Example: I am not going to touch Dom Davis until I know who Texas is going to draft or any moves involving Drew Brees until I know how the FA things works out for him. It is not a lack of interest but a lack of uncertainty that makes my leagues slow this time of year.

Agree 100%.Now is the best time to deal in dynasty leagues IMO.Finding a willing partner is the hard part.Don't have that trouble in some leagues, other leagues are much tougher.............

There's a couple of people like this in my league. They specifically have said they don't want to trade until after the draft and free agency. Strangely enough though, Jamal Lewis, Chester Taylor, Edgerrin James, Brian Westbrook, and Domanick Davis have all changed hands, as has the #1 pick in the draft.

I see a lot of this in my league. There are a couple of guys that have to trade just to trade. And they love the uncertainty. Last year a guy was sure that Travis henry was going to end up in Seattle. He traded Steve Smith and a first rounder for him. That one bit him hard. Particularly after Javon Walker went down. I think that has made a lot of owners gun shy. I made a move on our FA night a few years back to get Buckhalter. Couple weeks later in minicamp he blew out his knee. So I'm gunshy because of that.

But for the most part in my case, I just need some time off from it. I enjoy checking out this site (and believe that this is the best time to be checking out FBG), but I don't have as much desire to talk trade with anyone. I've thrown out a few feelers, but that's about it.

My other problem is that I have the 1.3 and 1.4 picks this year and we have a draft lottery with the first 4 picks. I have a 30% chance of getting 1.1 on FA night. So, I will be waiting on that (end of April) before I want to make any serious moves that involve first rounders....

One guy who I had targetted after the season was Ronnie Brown. As soon as our FA period began(Feb 1st),I started pursuing him.Landed him in 2 leagues before the RW saga went down.Still working on a couple of other guys, but will refrain fom naming them.Too many leaguemates frequent here this time of year..............

This has been a hyper-active offseason for the dynasty league I commish. 11 of the 12 teams have all made atleast 1 trade with many of them making more than 2. The offseason is the best time of the year!

This is one of the cool things about the Zealots dynasty/IDP leagues. Year round activity. Right now we are in the middle of our RFA/UFA period and will have rookie drafts right after the NFL does. And that's not to mention the new leagues in the middle of their vet drafts.

3rd year I have been in a dynasty league (it's been around about 10 years). Last year there was about a two month lull with activity picking up in March. This year has been a repeat, but I have no problem with that, it still gives 5 months of activity before week one.

OKAY,

those of you that agreed with me, how available are you? Looks like 6 or 7 of us could be the beginning of a kick-### league.

Please let me know. I am THE most active guy in every league I am in. I know that sounds embellished, but I offer references if needed.

I'm cool with that as I am one of those leaguemates that Fin is trying not to disclose too much info to :boxing:

If you need anyone else let me know. In my Dynasty league at TDFFL, it is dead quiet right now. Would love to join a league that would have lots of activity!

I don't post much due to my bad spelling but I visit this site every day. I might be as hard core as they get. Some that have posted here play in a Dynasty League I Commish. If you get something going I would like to get involved. By the way I am one of the guys that traded Ronnie Brown to Finatic and very happy to get Rudi Johnson in return..............

I've asked this in many threads, but can someone explain to me the fascination of trading?
I find it adds an extra dimension to FF. I trade a bit, not a lot, but every now and again. But it is a lot of fun when a "blockbuster" trade goes through with someone else in my division and now I have to worry about team X aquiring LJ from team Y.Plus it helps with some teams that don't draft well. I've been in a few leagues where we haven't allowed trades, and some guys that didn't draft well lost complete interest after 5-6 weeks. That kind of sucks. So what I tell people is if you dont like trades, try to look at it as a necesarry evil in most leagues

My home league does not have many deals going down at all right now but our message board is always hoping with owners doing mock drafts, team analysis and lots of ridiculing other players. Dont always have to have many trades to make a good league.

I like trading as much as anyone I think but I agree that trading is not what makes a good league. In fact trading can often have a opposite effect.

What makes a good league is owners who participate and bring thier A game. I think the chatter is fun but it's also not neccessary for the league to be a good one.

In dynasty leagues that have been established over many years I would expect trading to slow down compared to the 1st 2 years of thier inception. Owners have set thier teams up for who and how they are trying to win and should know each other pretty well by then.

I agree with crippler that if you want an active league then do more to generate chatter on the message board. After 3 years of talking trades with the same owners these owners should pretty well know what each other will or will not do as far as that goes.

2 of my biggest deals in a long established league were negotiated then put on hold for almost an entire season before they were actualy executed. It just makes sense for things to work this way to me and does not mean that owners are inactive or not paying attention.

3 leagues

1. Practically dead. I made a trade over a month ago, nobody else has, no emails.

2. A couple offers here and there, nothing too noteworthy.

3. 32 team league, 7 new owners (high turnover this year), so we're in the middle of a dispersal draft - extremely busy. :D

Yep, I'll second that.Even though I thought about it many times, I refuse to join another Dynasty League as I know it won't ever stack up to jaWs.

Couldn't ask for a better group of owners.

Count me in too. I won't join another one either. Everyone is cool. Looking forward to partying in Vegas with several owners in May.
